Current mood:  bummed

The Red Blood Club will be closing its doors for good on June 15, 2008. This completely breaks our hearts, but we have been trying to fight a battle that we cannot seem to win. Since the new SUP Ordinance was put into place we have been struggling. This is mostly due to the very unfortunate stabbing that took place in November of last year, which really hurt us. The City told us if we wish to remain open that we must have 2 Certified Peace Officers at every live music event from 10 pm to 2 am. Since then we have had to do shows early, having them over by 10 so that we did not have to pay 2 cops at $50 per hour each. We have had some shows go until 12 am and we had to pay $200 for cops on those nights. At several of those shows there were maybe 10 people that showed up and we still had to pay $200 to the cops and then pay our sound guy and door guy. You can do the math and see that it does not work. Some people have complained about our door prices and some even complained about our drink prices. We were not trying to make a buck off anyone...we were simply trying to keep the doors open.
We would like to thank EVERYONE that came out to RBC and showed their support.  We would not have made it this long without you! We would also like to give a very special thanks to a few people: Mike "Red Blood" Whittington for allowing us this opportunity, Justin Powers for ALL his hard work and commitment to booking, Alison w/ DEEP!!!, James Blood and Ashley for helping us get the place ready to open, Josh for just being awesome, Adam Carter for being there when we needed him, Milane for all that she has done, Amanda and Troy Destroy for ALWAYS being there, Vickiy for her generous donations, all our past bartenders, door people and sound guys, ALL the bands that have played here, Frank Campagna, Turner, and the other artists that donated their art and time to help us raise money, Reno's for hosting the stabbing victims benefit, and all our close friends and family that supported us in this endeavor!
I would like to ask that you all keep us in your memories. There were SO MANY kick ass shows at RBC and even more good times. We made a lot of new friends and even a few enemies! It will all be missed greatly.
Please be sure to continue to show your support to Doublewide, Bar of Soap, Reno's and The Granada.  They really need you and when they are gone there will be nothing!
We will be planning a "Grand Finale" party that will take place at RBC. The details will be posted soon.

We love you all!!

x0x0x0x0~ April & Brad

Well damn. Another good one bites the dust, eh? Well that's just great. At least you died trying. You will be sorely missed. By schools both new and old (sadly, I fall into the "old" category).

I'll be there for the send-off.

This is a hard business and a lot of people take this scene for granted. They obviously do not understand what it takes to have a place like RBC, BOS, Doublewide, Reno's or The Granada. These types of venues are special and people need to wake up and appreciate what they have. Brad and I have busted our asses for a year and half and spent thousands of dollars trying to keep this place open. I just hope that people remember all the great venues that have come and gone and understand what they must do to to keep the remaining great ones around.

And Sweetheart, April, you guys did an amazing thing for lots of ppl for the last year/half (or however long) to keep the scene alive and kicking and give those a place to hang and be free at their home away from home. It takes a lot to run a club and you guys shocked a lot of ppl in a good way by doing what you could to keep the torch of RBC burning! Unfortunately Dallas is just laying down some unfair, strict-as-hell laws, which make it lame for everyone else who guves a shit. Gone, but not forgotten.
XOXO

Can I buy that art pic on the wall of the dude frowning?

serious. I have pics of the Lash Outs with that art behind them, it would mean something to me - us.

i'm really going to miss this place. when that stabbing happened a while back, i kind of saw this coming eventually. this is the only punk rock rooted club in Dallas. it's a real shame...

maybe one day re-opening could be a prospect (i hope.) thanks for everything, i really loved the place.
many good times!

aww man that really sucks. i was only at one show (time again, deathbed repentance, the lash outs), and that was back in march...but it gave me one of my best memories in getting to get onstage and sing with time again and randy(of deathbed repentance)...it's a shame that this bullshit had to happen.

Four Days To Burn (Southern Corruption OUT NOW)

so sad to see this happen...

it was an honor and priviledge to play here...

thanks for giving us guys from Fort Worth a place to call home in Dallas...

specifically big thinks and bong hits to Justin for digging what we do and always hooking us up with good shows...really glad that we got to play there one last time before the doors closed for good and that it was with the best "underground" and "groundbreaking" band ever...TODAY IS THE DAY....a night that, in our minds and hearts, will be remembered and cherished forever...

you will be missed but not forgotten...

fuck this sucks ass!
thanks for keeping it going as long as you did!

you will be missed and remembered just like all the others!!

but your name says it all, RED BLOOD CLUB...it is only fitting that the reason you have to close the doors is because there was RED BLOOD spilled...

There were some amazing times here, some ok ones, and some bad ones, but never any wasted times. This place was home away from home for almost everyone who knew it, and it will be missed. Still one of the longest timed venues in the area with some of the best staff and regulars & friends, and they cant take that away from us.

Thanks so much for giving this to us while it lasted, we appreciate it.

cheers & beers.

Well Guys and Girls you gave it a great run and I thank you for trying to keep the scene alive and DIY for the years that you had it opened. I had alot of fun at alot of shows.I would like to thank Brad and April and Justin for always being cool hosts even though they might have been dealing with some bullshit. I would like to thank All of the Bands( Way to many to try and List) that played there through out the years . But mostly I would like to Thank You the Scene and Supporters of the scene. Don't worry it will never die it will just move somewhere else out of Deep Ellum. People should start supporting the Vampire Lounge off of Harry Hines and Walnut Hill also support Reno's , Doublewide, Prophet Bar, the Ridgela Theater in Fort Worth as well as Lola's in Fort Worth. It is sad that RBC is closing but with every closing door one will open, Keep unified and nothing can break the scene down.

Thanks Brad, April, and Justin for working your ass’s off to keep something going and doing something for the Dallas Music Scene. Sad to see it go, but I am extremely grateful for all the hard work everyone did. I know it wasn't made easy and I wont mention all the BS. You guys packed a lot of shows in a short time. Battalion of Saints, Dr. Know, Adolescents, Agent Orange, Sub-Humans, Reagan Youth ( Thanks MIA !!), Lethal Aggression, JFA, Youth brigade, poison idea, Mad Ball, M.D.C., Hell I got to see Brad play the drums With fucking Jerry’s Kids!!, and that’s just the old school shows I remember and barely skims the surface. Thanks to all the Local bands. Thanks Justin for putting together a lot of great Shows and letting us play, and to everyone who did their part to get bands here and set up shows and for all the music lovers, drunks and kids that kept the doors open for the last year . For the most part everything and everyone was always cool at red blood. To all the sound guys, To all the Door Crew, and all the bartenders. Thanks brad and April for all the money you first put into that building when you took it over, for all the Crew that helped get this place ready when it reopened back in March last year. And I know there’s even a longer history with Red Blood Club before this latest era. But there Were some good times. Hope to See everyone this Weekend.

RIP Red Blood, you will be missed. The city of Dallas & those who run it have a few great lessons to learn, until then, they wont support anything that doesn't come w/ a big box corporate label.
