| From: | Matt | | Date: | Nov 3, 2006 2:11 AM | | Subject | tour so far... | | Body: | so after driving 24 hrs straight, we're 15 miles from our show in nebraska tonight and cutting it close because we are supposed to play and then immediately pack up and drive the 20something more hours straight to PA when out of nowhere i hear jordan say from up in shotgun "oh shit..." and BAM! we killed bambi. naturally joe was the one driving when the impact occurred. i was in the back but supposedly he was just chilling on the other side of the freeway and at the very last moment he bounded across and we caught its rear end on the right side of our grill. our radiator exploded and there was a long thick trail of fluid leading up to the van by the time we pulled over. the right side of the front end was completely crushed and there were bits of deer stuck in it along with some blood and fur on the driver side door. i walked down the road to see if he was still alive or if i could maybe help him in some way. we found the 300 lb. buck down in the embankment about 10 ft. from the road. he'd spun around over 360 degrees and was lying on his side, his hind legs awkwardly wrapped underneath themselves like they belonged to gumby. his left antler was sort of dug into the ground which led me to believe he'd been flung to his final resting place and died upon impact rather than tried to run on broken legs and collapsed and suffered, which made me feel a little less awful about it though honestly it was hard to worry about the deer when we were so distraught with our own situation. the kids from the show came and picked us up (and our trailer too) and we made a police report and got the van towed to joe the promoter's house. the show went over well despite it being our first nebraska show ever on a school night no less. now we're back at joe's place about to go to sleep wondering how we're going to afford any of this. hopefully we'll find a rental van or an SUV to do the tour in because we really can't afford to miss out on this tour. my phone doesn't have service anywhere in this area and it's really annoying. needless to say we won't be making the show in PA tomorrow but hopefully MI if we can get it together by tomorrow night. the plus is that we didn't have to make the same drive we did the last day and a half again tonight and that if things go well, insurance will give us some sort of payout on the van to put down towards a new one. we'll see... hope everyone is having fun at home. |
