Current mood:  disappointed
I had a meeting yesterday at an office complex where David Milch's office is located. After completing my scheduled appointment, I stopped by David's to say hello and see what was going on. Luckily, the Maestro was in. And well...

I had been very optimistic that we would be seeing more DEADWOOD episodes, at the least the two promised "movies." I left David's office with my optimism on the wane. It doesn't look good, dear DEADWOOD fans, it doesn't look good...

That ain't to to say the horse is completely dead yet. It is just lying trailside foaming at the nostrils and heaving for breath. Once it is completely dead, I'll try my damnedest to stop beating it.

I had lost hope for Deadwood already...

I dont get what HBO was thinking, but at least we had the three seasons we did.. What an incredible show it was!

Regardless of what happens, we saw some amazingly talented acting come out of that show. I, for one, can't wait to see what you do from here on out. I'll love you no matter what the outcome.

I can't believe that David would allow his baby to fall of a cliff like that without a proper send-off !!

I was afraid of this, but after I saw that "John from Cincinnati" had bombed, I thought Milcher might be more in favor of returning to one of his ideas that didn't suck. Thanks for the update!

I said it on Jim's board and I'll keep saying it. A single digit IQ seems to be required to be a Network Exec for just about any network these days. The good shows get canned, the crap keeps on flowin'.

In the meantime, I'll pray for a miracle.

Well, like Al once said:

"Welcome to fuckin' Deadwood! It can be combative!" (even behind closed doors)...

Maybe it will still happen in the far future when everyone just happens to be free and willing at the same time. Hey, it could happen! :)

Well, can't say I'm really surprised given how much time has passed without something definite. Guess HBO just waited out the intial storm and moved on once all was quiet on that front. I'm glad to see the cast on other shows and all, but really miss you all as an ensemble.

*stops by the horse and places it's head in lap petting it's neck and mane*

Thanks as always for the updates.

Deadwood , would be a hard one to pull back together. I'm sure now that everyone is off doing other projects, the scheduling alone would be next to impossible. Until the horse is dead....PLEASE KEEP BEATING IT!!!! Like you said 2 promised movies..They promised.....E.(..lol Sound like a little kid, but damn, a promise is a promise)....isnt it?

Earl:

Thanks for the up-date. In talking to some of the crew on JFC, they indicated that most of the Gem is still standing; the wardrobe is still on hold and the Ranch is still being paid. Personally, I do not see Deadwood coming back even with this information.

My feelings re HBO and the inability of the powers in charge, to make a decision, out of fear of failure, is very discouraging.

It was a pleasure, an education and a lot of fun working with you and all the rest of the group.

There are several of us that stay in touch as a result of meeting on Deadwood.

Stay well, all the best.

Barney the Barber.

Please bare with me in a confused state of foggy understanding. If it is true that HBO Canx "John" I wonder why the resurrection of "Deadwood", if only in movie formate, would be impossible to produce? With the end of the "Sopranos" (sp) and "John from Cincinnati" what else could HBO offer that would fill the void of those type of productions? Also, if making a Deadwood movie is in the desires of the series fans, would such a movie plague it (The series Deadwood) with a similar fate as "Dragonfly"? All the charters in Dragonfly were killed off, making it nearly impossible to move forward with the story-line.

I personally would like to see a spin off (or two) of Deadwood. As much as I would like to see a Deadwood movie on the big screen, I don't believe that Deadwood would sell to the general public. At best it would get an "NC 17" rating,(a kiss of death to box office revenue generation). If it was edited to open the target audience at the "R" rating, I don't think it would have the same feeling. It wouldn't be the same having "Jane" acting even the slightest bit meek in her usual drunken and belligerent persona. Both "Dan" and "AL" have a temperament in that the expression of the certain words offer relief once spoken. No at best a "Deadwood" movie would show better on TV, only on HBO.

Thats just my thoughts... I could be mistaken...

Earl,

"Deadwood" was one of the best dramas ever assembled. I feel foolish writing this, but I'm still not giving up on those HBO hoopleheads just yet. (Denial's pretty powerful stuff, I suppose.)

Best of luck to you!

I can't say I'm totally surprised, but dammit I'm so disappointed!!! WE (hubby and I) love the show and the cast and wish it could go on and on forever. We get the dvd's and watch them over and over. I just wish they could make the damn movie so we can get an end to the greatest show ever and not just left hanging. But we enjoyed it while it lasted and will enjoy it still, BUT E. you will get great things out of it and I know your life will go on too. More the better for being in Deawood.

Give that horse a good kick and a drink of water for me!!

Earl,

Few questions for whom ever can answer them:

1. What would it take to buy the rights or authorization to produce the movie?

2. Do you think we (Deadwood fans) could form an investment company that sole function is to raise capital to finance the production of the 1 -2 Deadwood movies?

3. What would be the cost of production? (Could cost be lowered by shooting in HD v. 35 mm ? )

4. Would the cast reassemble and work for scale to complete the production(s) or take points off the back end marketing promotions and sales?

5. Besides David Milch, who can finish the story line and write an ending?

6. Who would like to see a spin off(s)of the Deadwood series, and what spin off(s) could be developed?

Gawdammit.

Deadwood was hands-down the greatest piece of work ever produced for television. HBO would be making a HUGE mistake to not throw everything they have at these now-mythical Deadwood films.

But thanks for keeping us in the loop, man. Cheers.

please people don't lose faith ... something as Grand & Great as "Deadwood" will NOT die so young. It's been said that Jesus came back from the dead & so .... i do believe that the simple minds sitting around the office table in some skyscrapper will see which direction the river flows and turn the boat around. If i'm able to get this DVD box set in Beijing ... well than.... this shows gaining ground & i am but it's humble servent bowing. Let me add, i have the chinese version and my chinese friends LOVE how Mr. Wu's clique is portrayed ! Thank you Earl for the space to provide a comment.
