First of all Dave is a showman and Sammy is a musician. Sammy did some Dave songs when he was in the group. Dave could NEVER sing a Sammy song. If he could, why doesn't he do it on this "reunion" tour? Sammy blew Dave away when they toured together and Dave was a jack ass when Sammy tried to get him to sing with him. I love the Dave era for it's contribution to rock, but Sammy delivered a style to a group that was searching for and it was a band. Dave is all about Dave and always will be!

Sammy's vocals and song writing talent is better than anyone ever recorded. Dave doesn't even rank. Not to mention Sammy has more talent in one finger nail than Dave has period.

Personally, I think Sammy sings while Dave screams. Sammy can hit the notes with a lot richer sound than Dave ever could. I'm curious to see if Dave will do some of the Sammy songs like Dreams.

I was Always a Sammy fan before he joined the band, and he took them to another level, Dave lost the plot, and continued to lose the plot during his solo years, Where Sammy was a Great Solo performer and Continued when He left the band, More Hits during the VAN HAGAR YEARS, than the Dave Years,
Its Sammy and Mikey for me,
Brian

I totally agree w/ kckbackchk! Sammy is way more talented and taking more serious as a true musician!

Lots of ppl look at DLR as a joke or a clown. He belongs doing Vegas shows. lol

Sammy is the greatest. David just happened to be in a band with the best guitarist in the world....

I'll be honest, I can listen to all 3 versions of Van Halen. I must say though, Van Hagar, was the Greatest Era of the band. Sammy wrote from the heart... solo and VH. He was a contributing musician and an excellent singer. While the early VH had it's share of great rock tunes, there was an over abundance of cover material. The 4 Van Hagar albums didn't contain any (maybe A Apolitical Blues?). They covered the spectrum musically, there was a little bit of everything on those albums... something for everybody! Sammy had growth potential for the band. I don't think Van Halen could have taken it much further with Roth after 1984. Lets be honest Sammy (and Gary) could sing Dave's stuff with ease. Dave couldn't handle any Van Hagar songs. That is why Dave kept avoiding Sammy's jam offer on the Sam and Dave tour. The Sam and Dave tour proved the difference. Dave had to sadly rely on old Van Halen, despite having some great solo tunes. It was as if Dave was saying "this is all anyone wants to hear". Sam did it all - Montrose, VH, old and new solo material. Sam put on an awesome show, while Dave forgot lyrics and even stumbled on his famous jump kick. Again, old Van Halen was great, but Van Hagar was better!

Sammy can sing like a motherfu@er!!! all dave can do it sqeal and do karate kicks. Sammy doesn't have that whole "hey everybody look at me!" complex that dave has. Sammy knows he is lucky and appreicates the fans, Dave thinks his shit doesn't stink and that everyone is there to worship him, and lastly Sammy isn't pretending that its still 1984. Sammy has grown with his music as he has gotten older. dave is the 40 year old guy still wearing his lettermans jacket. and nothing is sadder than a 40 year old in their old lettermans jacket.

The Sammy version brought the band into a new direction, which the Dave version couldn't. DLR was getting old sounding and dated and probably wouldn't of been able to compete to the likes of RAP, GRUNGE, ALT ROCK AND POP ROCK, like the Sammy/Van Hagar version could and did, why Eddie let that great sound of Sammy riding every note on his guitar go, is a shock to me still??? Even to have them reunite in 2004 was just a heartache knowing that from 1996-2003 we could of had at least 4 other albums with some of the best rock and roll ever if Eddie could have just kept his head straight and bit his lip so Sammy could of kept them flying high!
Oh well we still have 4 1 CD's a couple of DVD's and 2 Greatest hits CD's and a bunch of videos and myspace sites, Cabo Wabo and the Other Half to have us feel that the Band Van Halen w/Sammy Hagar still is around, Thank God.

Well, there must've been some reason why Eddie wanted Sammy in the band.

Must've been because Sammy was good enough for the band.

I feel obligated to point out that Sammy Hagar is the only other rock vocalist today I can think of who can hit notes close to Steven Tyler's range.

Please!!!! Dave "won't" sing Sammy's songs? Dave couldn't hit most of Sammy's notes in his prime, much less now.I did love the Dave version because of their swagger and the fact that they were all young and hungry right out of the blocks, but the whole tone of the songwriting grew up once they had a singer as opposed to a vocalist. They were simply not limitied anymore.

Dave is a good lounge act - whereas Sammy is an outstanding songwriter. The songs had more substance with Van Hagar.

Sammy's voice brought Van Halen into main stream popular music. Without him I think the VH flame would have flickered out many years ago. I have nothing against DLR, but in my opinion Sammy was the better choice. Sammy is a better singer and a better showman than Roth ever was. I recently saw VH live in Pittsburgh Pa, and it was a great show and I'm happy that I got to see VH play, but it would have been a whole other world of awesome if Sammy had been up there, and I cant believe Wolfgang took the place of Mike Anthony, the kid did a good job, but he will never be as good as Anthony.

It's NOT about liking one version more than the other...They were 2 different bands from the get go.

One is raw untamed BOMBASM!

The other is POLISHED PROFESSIONALISM!...

And in the end...THEY'RE BOTH GREAT!

Sammy is the full package!! he can hit the notes now as he did then.He can write a hit!! and more than just one.Take a look at the history of him with Van Halen,it is proven.I think they were a happier band and it came across in the tunes and the stage performance.Dave was good then but the ego over took the vibe the band had by the time 1984 or even Diver Down came out.All you have to do is catch Van Halen on youtube from this tour and see why spending the big bucks to see Dave in Van Halen struggle to do Panama or even Jump as he slowly walks from side to side .His showmanship today is not what Sammy Hagar's is today.See Sammy Now and you will Get the Sammy show you always knew and thats why Sammy and Mikey belong in Van Halen !! with brand new music.Maybe they ban get like Steve Vai or Satriani and never look back lol. They don't need anyone. They will leave you saying Eddie and Alex who by the end of the show so go see them or the woborita's

I grew up on DLR Van Halen......I was Capitvated by the bad boy womenizer immage he put out.... But, at the same time I loved Sammy Hagar.... Montrose , By himself......He comtroled the air waves majesticlly his voice is unmistakable...His songs Timeless, Original, and with meaning...Sammy was not into redoing others music for profit....he reshows respect by saying " Here's a tribute to the Who!" or "Here's a Song done bny some friends of ours!!!!"
not like DLR Who'd just take the stage do it....and act like he wrote it! If Van Halen ever became Van Hagar Again It would make me the happiest person in the world that would mean I could expect a fresh new line up of songs of out of this world original preportions and chart toping hits.....and at the same time I'd be nervous of how Eddie might fickel up on Mike, and Sammy again...and I don't know if I can take another Divorce. To me DLR was the Biological father who beat me and my mom.....Sure you love him but really he's no good.....So eventually he leaves mom. mom files for divorce and meets anew Guy and he's fun, You wanna hang out with him, he loves her and she loves him the work they don't argue fuss and fight.....theres comrodery, passion and great hit song after another. Peace and happiness fro the inside out. And until Eddie can find inner peace with in himself and except everything that for what it is.......I wish Sammy and Mike all my best with much love, admiration, and respect! MAS TEQULIA!

sammy is a much better singer but i think lots of the good songs were recorded when dave was in the band. So you get the best deal when you see them live. But mike anthony is the best by far!!!
