Humeur actuelle :  énervé
I received an email from a certain band that played at CB's last night. They said that they would be playing with the Rolling Stones - "yeah, the rumors are true blah blah, the Rollings Stones' annual roadie show is on the 19th... blah blah the Stones want to play CBGB's before it closes" [ed. why would anyone want to play that piece of Shit venue].... So I hauled Ass out there, quite late in the night to tell the Truth, and payed $10 Dollars to get into CBGB's - waited through a few bands of extraordinary mediocrity-

Then I ran into someone I know who works in the Music Industry, and I said "I'm hoping to see Mick Jagger and Keith Richards...." but he laughed in my face and said, "You're not going to see Mick Jagger and Keithy Richards.... it's their roadies."

CBGB's lied to us and said that the Stones would be playing but it was their guitar Techs. I think it's time to bring the CBGB's chapter of music history to a close. They can't keep their venue open because no one wants to go hear mediocre bands and pay for their criminally overpriced drinks. Their wild attempt to present themselves as victims in media outlets such as amNew York is just another one of their dirty tricks - like the stunt they pulled on me last night.

Fuck Em.

Um, I don't mean to rub Salt in the Wound, but isn't a "roadie show" exactly what they delivered?

I shall answer your remark with points twofold. First, call me a paranoid-schizophrenic, but the folks at CB's were behaving with EXTREME secrecy. Acting like nothing was up, when they know full well - yes - that it was anomalous that their failing Nightclub was full of customers on an ordinary Thursday night. I asked, "Is jack Grace playing ? [the band that was to precede the Rolling Stones]" and they said "Who's Jack Grace". it was like there was some secrete.

Second,

I now quote from the email I received:
"w/ The Rolling Stones annual Roadie show (yep) Rumor blah blah blah The Rolling Stones etc, wanna play there before the club closes blah blah blah"

The clear implication is that it is the STONES playing. My worst thought was - Shit, perhaps the show is only open to their roadies and friends... But I had no doubt that the suggestion was that the STONES would be playing. However, owing to the slightly unreliable-sounding nature of this email, I checked a second source:

From the website of another band that was playing that night:
Thursday, January 19th 10pm CBGB - with famous musicians we can't announce yet.

Q.  IF MICK JAGGER AND KEITHY RICHARDS ARE FAMOUS MUSICIANS, WHAT DOES THAT MAKE THEIR ROADIES!!!!?
A  not famous musicians

I HATE CBGB'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The roadies are no closer to being the rolling stones than, say, eric's solo ukelele side project. but he doesnt advertise himself as "The Rolling Stones fan show". Well, he does, but not always.

but it sounds like all the confusion you felt was a result more of the other bands' postings and not cbgbs, anyway, no?

WHOM do you think led those bands to belief the Rolling Stones were playing?

Nay, 'tis not I who is the fire-breathing dragon, but the sachets of sleaze who operate that rectum-in-the-wall CBGBs.

Either the bands were in collusion with CBGBs (with a view to boosting their audience way beyond their just desert - to their mutual advantage) or CBGBs was behind the whole thing, the bands just pawns, me the victim... readers... adieu....

Yeah, I wish CBGB's would die already.  Charging admission to see roadies play?  Time to get off that 30 year old wave they've been riding.  Pathetic.  I second your motion to "fuck em".

PS: So this is what happens when I'm not around to keep an eye on you?  You probably should have known better...why would the Stones give a shit about some old tourist attraction rock club?  And if they did give a shit enough to come and play, wouldn't that struggling has-been of a rock club promote the hell out of it?  What ever will become of poor master Eric now that Viner won't be around to guide him through life's twists and turns?

Very funny! Except note that WERE CBGB's to promote the hell out of a Real rolling stones concerts, THEY would find themselves in need of more than a small bouncer to hold back the horde of fans foaming at the mouth to see Mick Jagger and Keithy Richards perform their Rock songs. The reasoning that keeping the show secrete would prevent such calamity - and yet that word would inevitably spread widely enough to SELL OUT Cbgb's (and then some) - was both valid and sound. As my other, much-maligned entry on this subject notes, I WAS NOT ALONE. That's why that piece of shit venue was essentially sold out on a Thursday night. Everyone thought the same thing.... herr weiner thinks he knows better but methinks it will come back to bite him in the ass some day.... perhaps not long from now.... adieu

Not to mention the question of what "mature" (and possibly elfin-attired) lady Eric will get the hots for next.  The man needs a little supervision!  Viner, you better check in on him every once in awhile.
