Sorry to be a downer,

I went to a wonderful wrap party for season 2 of UGLY BETTY tonight. It was a blast, full of cast, crew, producers, writers, etc. I had a lot of fun with America, Michael and a bunch of other nice people. In fact, even after working on the show for so long, I had somehow never gotten pictures of myself with any of the people I've worked with. So, tonight I took a lot of pictures and had a great time.

Then, walking back to my friends' car, about a block away from the party, two men jumped out of their car and held a gun to my face and stole my wallet and my friends' purse/camera/phone. They drove away and I've spent the past 2 hours talking with the police and my credit card companies.

There's a sad part of me that is just happy that I got away alive and that my friend wasn't hurt. There's another sad part of me that is happy they got me and not America Ferrera, Michael Urie, Judith Light or anybody else at the party with WAY more money than myself. There's another sad part of me that is so angry that I just want to see these people put behind bars as soon as possible.  It's sad how quickly your life can be affected... and even more sad how angry a few people's SAD choices can affect people's lives.

It bothers me that this was Hollywood. I've lived in New York, Astoria, Queens, Florida, Kentucky, Virginia, Texas, all over... and this crap happened in the heart of Hollywood near a MAJOR intersection. I'm just glad we were smart enough to hand over our money so quickly. Because I can tell you, even with a gun in my face, my first reaction was to nail this guy in the face with as many punches as I could muster... but instead I looked at my female friend and realized it'd be better to hand over my wallet and call the police.

Be careful kids. And let's hope these guys get caught before they do too much damage. The police told us that this has happened a few times in the past few weeks. And on top of that, as we were in their car, we heard a radio call saying another mugging happened with the same description...about 30 minutes after ours.

_david

***EDIT*** To answer a question, yes. The camera in my friend's purse that was stolen was MINE. My camera with all the pics of myself with America, Michael, Eric, Becki, etc. :(

Thanks so much for listening to me vent. The police were nice enough to give us a ride back home, and my friends had just given us a ride to get our car back when I wrote that. I was just in such awe and so incredibly pissed when I got home that I needed to vent. Regardless, thank you everyone for being curious enough to read this entry [or any for that matter]. And thank you all so much for sending your kind words. I know that this isn't the first time this kind of thing has happened, and I just hope that these guys get caught before they have the chance to get anyone else...or hurt anyone. Please be careful out there. This kind of thing can happen anywhere. From Times Square, to Whytheville, VA to a country road.

But just to clear things up so I don't appear to have spoken out of turn:

The season is not officially over. They just finished the last episode before the end of the strike. So they had a well-deserved get-together before people celebrated the holidays wherever they were doing so. I think everybody wholeheartedly hopes that the strike will end soon and we'll all be back to work by February. Also, as a Recurring, I'm not there everyday, so I especially am not privy to any information like when/if the next episode shoots. Please take my comments with a grain of salt. :)

*** I completely appreciate your concern. And while I also appreciate the offers of support and help, it's absolutely not necessary. Thank you immensely for the thoughts though. :)

OH NO! :( Sweetie, I feel so bad for you! I know what it's like to be young and struggling at you craft. Was doing just the same in the 1980's when my apartment in Manhattan was broken into.

This just breaks my heart, but at least the credit cards were cancelled in time.

Unfortunately, there are bad people everywhere in all shapes and colors. But I still believe that the majority are good in hart and soul.

This makes me so very sad. I've also written a personal email to you .. please read it.

Oh man... that really sucks! You'll be in my prayers for some speedy resolution to this issue. Some great quick thinking there. It definitely could have been a lot worse. Glad you and your friend are all right!

Thank God you thought quick and did the right thing. I know it sucks not having money and having to deal with the credit card companies, but it could have been so much worse. I'm so glad you're ok!

That's really terrifying. Thank goodness nobody was hurt physically. I wonder how people can stoop to such a low, disgusting level and resort to crimes that victimize people so emotionally? It's awful.

WOW ! I am so glad that you and your friend are ok, number one.

There was a time, MANY years ago when I worked at a late night fast food place, and when I went out to the car, a guy jumped from the bushes and waved a gun in my face. He thought I might have the nightly deposit and wanted it. I didn't and not only that, but I didnt have a purse with me either. I was scared to death that rather than leave with nothing he was going to hurt me; thankfully, he did not, and ran off with only my personal keys.

Knowing the fabulous cast of Ugly Betty [from what I've read of course, I could only dream of actually knowing them] - I bet you will be overwheled with opportunities to get more pictures taken.

I belong to a fan group for Ugly Betty, that LOVE LOVE LOVE the show, and the Marc/Cliff storyline even though the site is specifically a Henry/Betty fan site. Not many of them have myspace accounts, so they asked that someone come over here and let you know that we are ALL glad you and your friend are OK and we wish you all the best and hope to see more of you on Ugly Betty soon.

Be well.

That is truly the suck, David. It's good to know you're okay, though. Money can be replaced.

Very sorry to hear of this horrible news. Thank the STARS you came out okay and that the worse part was losing personal belongings ... although it doesn't take away the fear and anger you must have felt at the time.

Keep doing what you're doing on the show! You're fantastic!!

Wow, that blows. So sorry.

Thanks for coming out to the Hollywood Christmas Parade, it was nice to see people on TV in the parade.

I live right by where UB shoots, was your mugging on one of those streets near the studio? I walk my pooch there every night, and wanted to know what I should look out for.

Take care, and happy Christmas.

Wow how scary. I can't even imagine the thoughts that went through your mind during that ordeal. I'm glad you didn't try to be a hero and get yourself or your friend hurt. I hope those guys are caught and brought to justice. Thanks for being so open about your ordeal with everyone.

XOXO

You might want to consider carrying a consealed weapon. There's classes you can take to learn the LA County laws, and to get a permit.

No, I'm not a law enforcement authorty. Friend of mine that was a prominent radio talk show host in Phoenix carried one, and told me about the training he and his wife had. Isn't it better to have the upper hand than the criminals?!

That is horrible...however the same thing happened to my co-worker, her boyfriend and their good friend a week ago Sunday night at 8:00 pm! They own a house in the Sunset & Highland Blvd. area and were walking up to Hollywood Blvd. to get something to eat. Two girls (in their teens) and three guys jumped out of a van and tried to mug them. They got away and thankfully no one was hurt. The police blew it off as that is Hollywood and showed no concern for their safety. With the so called revitalization work going on in the Hollywood area when are the police going to make an effort to protect the citizens/homeowners in this area? They need more police visibility in the area to keep the gang bangers out. We need to write and complain to the city officials for our own safety! With so much money being invested in the Hollywood entertainment sector it is going to be worthless unless we feel safe to go to these venues. Also contact clubs, retaurants and anywhere you frequent to get the owners pushing for better safety - these owners have a lot to lose if people are afraid of being mugged - David, (unfortunately) because of your name and work city officials will listen to you more than a non-celebrity person such as myself!! But I am trying to make a difference because it is the right thing to do...I truly was sickened when my friend/co-worker told me what happened to her. Your story brought back the same feeling - I hope everyone would take a moment a write to someone in the city and say enough of the violence. I would love to see Hollywood clean, safe and full of nightlife in a safe environment.

Thanks for your time!
Eileen
