Hey all,

Back on the west coast after some incredible travels...cool inspirations seen and done via the road and had some real just keep livin (jkl) moments along the way...

-Took a 14 day road trip with my buddy Gus down to southern Baja. He and I became great friends on the road 16 years ago and we needed to get back on track with our friendship and do some of that old fashioned phi-loso-phising that only a road trip can render...we needed it, we got it, thanks Gus...j.k. livin

-We broke down in the middle of the desert while on that trip, in a place where we hadn't seen nor heard another human for three days. I had to jog down a dirt road for a couple of hours in hope of finding a trace of anyone...Well, I finally did, and her name was "Matty", an 82 year old Mexican woman who loaned me (a complete stranger speaking broken Spanish), her 1981 Isuzu truck with 263,000 miles on it. That truck got us to a place where we could get the gear to fix MY truck and get back on the road...Thanks Matty....just keep livin....Good hearted strangers and trust....cool

-After 4,206 miles of camping across America, I was once again reminded of how good looking this country is...saw family and friends, met strangers, made acquaintances...I was in some predominately "red" states when President-elect Obama was elected. I talked to a bunch of people who had voted for McCain and-check this- unanimously, those same people were genuinely excited and hopeful about Obama being elected...They all felt that the country had spoken in earnest, electing Obama, and they were more than "ready for the ride", they were ready to get into the action...cool...j.k. livin

- I spent my 39th birthday on the southern rim of the Grand Canyon...almost got "butted" of the edge by a ram and caught some shooting stars...as for the first sight of the GC, mother nature created something that looks so fake, its real....cool

-We decided to put a "dime of every dollar" j.k. livin brands makes into the j.k. livin foundation. We appreciate the online sales so far and know that we put a lot of time into each product choice and we believe in the message that no matter what, we gotta "just keep livin." ...Now, a piece of every purchase is helping some kids who need it, do the same...Check out www.jklivinstore.com for more info about the store and foundation...appreciate it...cool...j.k. givin

-Getting into some new music, best album front to back I've heard in a while is the new Kings of Leon, "Only by the Night"....good music....cool...j.k. listenin'

-I went to Brazil for the first time to visit my lady's family and tour the land a bit...Found a very proud and happy culture there. We ate, we drank, we danced, and they tolerated my stumbling through the Portuguese language....I will return, beautiful country, beautiful and classy people...thanks Brazil...cool

just keep livin, mcconaughey

It's great to see a new "fam" pic of you guys. Isn't the Grand Canyon amazing? Once my husband gets back from Iraq in 12 months we're taking a 1 month driving trip starting from the the west coast to the as far as Kentucky. Can't wait for my kids to see the GC too. We're station out here in Oahu, Hawaii (Schofield Barracks), beautiful place, but can't wait to be able to go hours driving from one state to another. It's great to hear you guys made it back safe. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
Aloha!!

Very cool pictures....I have to say I've been to AZ 4 times (at least) and have yet to see the GC - LOL -we were in Tucson - which in and of itself is an awesome site - an entirely different culture than where I live on the East Coast........AZ's an incredible place, but I have to ask about the bottom pic - who's the guilty butt-kickin' one?!

Hi,
Darn it, we missed you! You and your lovely family were so close yet so far! Did you visit the Navajo reservation! I teach in Tuba City which is located about 1.
5 hours from where you took the GC photo! Would've loved to have you visit our schools! So many fans of yours reside here! Did you stop in Cameron, AZ! hope to hear back from you!

Awesome blog! Made me wish I was near the Grand Canyon again. Sedona is a little ways up the road from there is also gorgeous. I hit it at sunset the first time I saw it, and the sun's crimson hues hitting those red rocks in the middle of nowhere...GORGEOUS.

Keep up the great work! Love your films and philosophy!

Excellent... Way to j.k. live!! I know those goats (any type of goat) can become a vicious adversary! LOL!! Glad you didn't slip off the cliff, and hope you head-butted that ram back into the stone ages... (just kidding).

Your baby and wife look gorgeous, and so glad that you had such a great time & God Bless Matty for helping out a complete stranger to her! Like my Dad always says... sometimes it's better to have luck than brains at certain times (not to mean that you don't have brains.... err, prying my foot back out of my mouth...).

Beautiful pictures, and thanks for sharing! I bet parts of Brazil are absolutely GORGEOUS! I've always wanted to see Argentina (my great grandmother was from there). South America is beautiful, but dangerous, too.

So glad you're out there and living! Keep on keepin' on, Man!

Hugs to you and your family & Best Holiday Wishes,

Joyce :o)

Sounds like you had too much fun for one person....Isuzu, good cars, love 'em. In regards to having major issues with a foreign language, try looking for a headset mp3 player, or something similar, to run software on with a mic, sensitive enough to where it hears a person close to you and translates. Might need one of those hacker saboteurs to help you with that one.....

Beautiful pics!!!!

Love the pictures man. Reminded me of the movie Grand Canyon with Danny Glover and Kevin Kline --beautiful and deep just like the beauty of the natural phenomenon. Now any mention of the Canyon is tied to that movie for me. Take care.

Dan & I have been married 34 years. We had traveled a bit with our children growing up. But, now that they have grown and gone off on their own. We have been able to take a few trips as well.

We spent two weeks going from Georgia to Colorado. Did some touring and a bit of camping in Colorado. Everywhere I turned a mountain range took my breath away. It was incredible.

Then we flew to Vegas and drove to the Grand Canyon a few years back for our 30th anniversary. Amazing. My first view brought tears to my eyes. We have some terrific photos from there along with our memories.

I would love to go to Alaska sometime soon. Spend a little time in Ireland, where my mothers family is from.

We were married on New Years Eve 1974. Celebrated our 25th in 1999 the whole world too.

As I get older it is clear that there is so much more I would like to do, to see, to experience.

Please Have a very Merry Christmas & jkliving. We are here in Georgia..

Love the pictures ! Looks like you like living on the edge, but I'm glad you didn't get butted off ! The rams are pretty cool though. Did you make it to Sedona ? It's not far from the Grand Canyon, and it's even more colorful. I have some pics on my profile taken there, check them out.

I've always hoped to go to Brazil someday, do you have any tips for me ? Thanks for letting us live vicariously ! I work for an airline, and I love hearing about adventures . Keep the pictures coming. Love your movies, but glad to see you take time to smell the flowers and enjoy life ! j.k.

Hello Mr. Mc Conaghey,....I hope you and the family are doing well. It must be cool to take a short rest in the Grand Canyon area during the day. I hate this cold weather, it's so horrible. But things change, and I'm glad they do. How did you almost get pummeled by one of those rams? I gues they're territorial. It's great that you net good-hearted trusting people. I rarely see people like them where I am at. It's a total shame, but just have to move on.
