Stole Our Gas Money Tour

New York, NY September 7, 2008—When New York area band Tourmaline started routing their usual summer tour, they found the dollars and miles not adding up as usual. Facing $3.50 a gallon and up and unable to fill their van's tank, they're hitting the road this fall, only this time, on foot. A twenty-three day stint is planned to hit the better part of Manhattan & Brooklyn, focusing on music and performance friendly areas. "As musicians, we have a need to perform. I don't see why we have to limit that to a stage, a venue, or even a microphone," says Singer Matt RauchMatt Rauch.

On the verge of releasing a new record, Tourmaline looked to touring as the most essential way to promote. "In the past, touring has been our favorite outlet to share our music with fans. It's nice to have a lot of plays on your myspace account, but there is something more gratifying about being there, interacting with the people hearing your music. People have a good time when we play," says keyboardist, Corey Zaloom.

As gas prices started to rise, Tourmaline quickly came to the realization that a DIY tour would not be feasible. They chose to delay the release of the album and figure out the best channel to get the word out. After teaming up with a Rock n' Roll revival movement WhereDidRockNRollGo.com for a successful guerilla marketing campaign, which included the hanging of over ten thousand posters across Manhattan & Brooklyn and flooding relatively every music company in New York City and Los Angeles with mysterious mailings, Tourmaline decided that they needed to get back to basics.

Nearly after a year of not performing since their November 07' residency at the Knitting Factory, due to singer Matt Rauch's vocal surgery recovery, the band is set to take the stage, or rather, the band is set to take the subway platform, park, train, stoop, or anywhere they feel the need to perform, starting Friday, September 19th. "We're going to be playing new material, old material, covers, instrumentals, operas, doo wop, really whatever we feel like. Our main objective is to have a good time and make sure everyone else has a good time too." Drummer, Max Rauch.
