In a rematch of last years Midwest Division Championship of the Kings verses Spirits, Kansas City came away victorious again.
The Kansas City Kings added another win to their record. This past Saturday the Kings faced their rival the Springfield Spirits. It was a hard fought game, but the Kings came out on top with an 11-3 victory over the Spirits.
The first quarter was evenly matched until PASL Rookie, Mid-America Nazarene Midfielder, 1st-team All Conference and HAAC Most Valuable Player Lucas Rodriguez squeaked in a goal with only 17 seconds left on the clock. Starting of the second quarter, the Kings were ready to put more of a lead on the Spirits. Adding to the score was Mirsad Dzilic, James Katawja, Milan Ivanovic, and Rodriguez adding another. The Spirits didn't give up and with 4:39 left in the half Cody Kother put one in for Springfield. At the end of the half Kings were leading 5-1.
With the Kings making a change in the goal, after halftime the Spirits were ready for play. Striking first in the third quarter, Jesse Elmore closing the lead to 5-2 Kings. Katajwa answered back a few minutes later along with Chaz O'Dell adding to take the lead. Andy Larte for the Spirits snuck one in before the end of the quarter leaving score at 7-3 in favor of the Kings.
Dzilic added another goal at the beginning of the fourth. The Kings weren't done yet with the scoring, Rodriguez, and Justin Beck added goals off power plays due to Spirits 6th foul, and holding calls. In return the Kings had to play one man down due to their own 6th team foul, but while at a disadvantage the defense held strong and allowed Stefan Stokic the chance to put one more away bringing the final score to 11-3 Kings.
The Kings turn right around and face the Spirits again in Springfield Illinois, Jan. 10 7:00PM
