Honoring and Serving Your Muse-Part II

Zulmara

When we have one of those incredibly creative days where we are one with out muse, is it just an accident, or do we make them happen by serving and honoring our muse, that inner spirit that sustains our creativity? Can we actually create more of those days of feeling as one with our muse? Could it be that how do we deal with our Pixies, our muses and their idiosyncrasies, those irascible, petulant characters that live with us day and night, makes a difference?
Well, many of my creative friends have very imaginative and inspired ways to pay, honor, and serve their muses. My personal favorite is to indulge in a mocha hot fudge banana sundae from, of all places, Disneyland. UUUUMMMM, my muse, after a tough week of work or an especially fruitful day of writing and creating is very pleased when we indulge, even though we do not indulge too often.

On a more regular basis, I renew and charge up and rev up my muse with a walk on the beach…preferably at water's edge…what a peaceful way of getting in touch with nature and nurturing the inner spirit simultaneously. I also love spending time in my hot tub, especially after at the end of the day when the night is cool and the water is hot…no better way to rest, relax, rejuvenate, and replenish.
I have many friends, who go to the spa, take a day off to shop at the mall, get a facial, or go out to a nice dinner. It does not matter how we feed, honor and server our muses, it just matters that we do it, because when we don't take the time to replenish the well, the well runs dry and we are out of balance, out of sorts, and nothing feels right, nothing goes right, nothing seems to matter or have a purpose.

When you are not caring for your inner muse, your inner muse is not caring for you and you begin to feel it…you begin to know it. For those of us who live with a muse, our moods, our ways of viewing the world, our thought processes are an ever mixing intertwined, inter-tangled, inter-meshed web of constantly creating and constantly feeding the hand that sustains us. Many of my friends who do not have a muse do not know what I am talking about when I say my muse needs to take a walk, or she needs chocolate, or she needs to go out and play with the kids. They think it is silly stuff, but when Tinker Bell is your constant companion, you know how cranky she can get if you forget to take time to properly thank her for all of the wonderful hours of inspiration, stimulation, brainwaves, and encouragement she has given.

To better understand how you love, honor and respect your inner muse, reflect on the following:
When you are at your creative best, what are you doing? What are you eating? What exercise are you getting? What kind of time are you taking for yourself? What music is on your playlist? What sights, sounds, smells, and tastes are you gravitating towards?
When you are not at your creative best, or feeling out of balance, how are you spending your time? What are you eating? What time are you taking for yourself? What fun are you having in your life? How are you maintaining balance? What sights, sounds, smells, and tastes are missing?
Understanding how we serve, honor, and love our muse is the first step in living a life of harmony as creative sentient beings. We need to be able to recognize that our muse needs to honored and pampered in order for us to live in harmony with our creative selves.
Hope your Tink is in the Pink today…

Ahh My Friend,
I do indeed know about the inner muse. AS you well know. Only I call her my evil twin.
And yes if I don't take care of her she does tend to get testy. In fact she takes over and does things that nice quite little southern me wouldn't dare to think or do.
Right- Any way Layla has been on a tear. She really wants to wake up the joint and get people to extend the Fourth of July. She wants those who are left behind to be noticed.
I don't know what got into to her maybe lack of sleep.
So yet indeed- I do know about the care and feeding for that inner muse. We must at all times adhere to her needs or else she goes on a tear of her own. Which sometimes is a good thing. lol

Brilliant!! I love this post - it rings so true, you have to keep the Muse happy to keep the creative juices flowing.

One thing though....why is "It's a small World" now playing in my head and an overwhelming craving for a mocha hot fudge banana sundae?!?! Time to go play!

I've been so busy as of late that I have been neglecting my inner muse. Thank you for this post. I needed reminding. I have been a bit cranky and tired and it must be because "CyndaGal" has not been pampered lately. Ok off to get CyndaGal that long over due pedicure!
Wow. How'd ya know?

How well I know that we need to take care of our inner muse! For YEARS, I ignored her......didn't feed her or nuture her and what did I have?? NOTHING.....n-a-d-a. So now, I am more nuturing and attuned to what muse needs and wants. Thanks for reminding us to care for that part of ourselves that so important to us!

Hmmmmm. Just when I thought I had heard every question out there...haha. my muse. Today I believe my muse or can I say muses? wanted a nice long nap. Like most of us, we run around doing too much for others and never enough is done for ourselves. :-) Today, my muse peeked into my purse and whispered, " Ooooh, i like that color. Ooooh, we need more pencils." Haha. So, I gave in and bought some supplies and continued to treat my mischievious muse by indulging in a nice long nap. I think (we) can both get used to this. ;-) wow...i hope I don't spoil her. ( hahahaha)

thanks for opening up yet another outlet for our creative juices to flow Zulmara.

God Bless ~

Unfortunately, my inner muse is far too easily distracted by the outside world. When things pile up on me, when there is great strife and pain, when my friends are at odds with one another, when my college age children need me...I can no longer contact any muse anywhere. I need quiet. I need tranquility. I need a walk on the beach in the early evening, I need to pet a dog, I need all this mess to go away first.

The muse is extremely particular.
It gives out ideas left and right then refuses to grant me the time and space and peace in which to act upon them.

Someone recommended I take up meditation. I've been thinking about that....

My muse has been lazy of late. My Dad finished proofreading the revised manuscript for "The Widower" and it's been sitting ignored on my desk since May. I look at it and my muse and I think, "yeah, we'd better get busy on that" just before I log onto MySpace or surf the Internet looking for cover art inspiration for "Sensuous Tails."

Maybe my muse is going through a phase where he/she/it would rather look at pictures and think of cover art possibilities instead of weeding through Dad's corrections.

My muse did get a tickle from you a few weeks ago, Zulmara. We've been scratching our heads about what "adelante" meant, so I logged onto the translation function of Google and entered it. We were enlightened!

Adelante = Forward! (At least that what Google says!) LOL

Cheers.

To better understand how you love, honor and respect your inner muse,

What a wonderful thought/directive, Zulmara. This is something I need to think about more, and take time for. My muse needs peace and tranquility, so I often write when in bed, in a relaxed state. It seems that caring for oneself actually stimulates the creative self. You have me thinking.....

Thank you, Nicky xxx

Thank you...that is just exactly what i needed to hear. I've been stressed and pushing myself to my creative limits, yet there has been a huge lack of energy, inspiration and creativity that i've noticed in my work. perhaps that is why i indulged my silly side last night and grilled in my kimono and danced around the house like a child who ate a bunch of sugar. Sometimes you need to pamper yourself and sometimes you may just need to let your inner child out to play dress up? Today, hopefully, I'll be able to make some masterpieces now that i let my inner child play for a night.

thanks for posting the blog, it was really inspiring to read and much needed!

When I'm feeling empty and unable to come up with words for the page, I look for ways to "fill up my soul." I love art galleries and museums, arboretums and botanical gardens. I'll hang out with friends or reread favorite books that jump-start my imagination and desire to create. It all helps, and even if I don't write that day, it improves my life in general, and that leads to better writing down the road.
