Sorry it has taken me so long to get this blog out about the SAG awards.  I’ve been trying to get it finished for the past few days and I just keep getting distracted by other things.  I don’t know where my time goes!  But, I took a TON of photos so I’m able to give you a glimpse behind-the-scenes!

To start things off…I’m SO HAPPY with how my dress turned out!

The neckline isn’t nearly as plungey as I thought.  It felt way more revealing.  (Must be the Midwestern values.)  I was so worried about it, I had 3 fittings to make sure nothing fell out of place.

The accessories were my favorite part of the outfit:

Neil Lane        Hellmuth          Renee Caovilla

Putting together a red carpet look is hard work.  You have to think of so many elements – how does it photograph, can I wear this comfortably for 10 hours, can I sit down, has someone else worn this dress, how should I do my hair and makeup, can I fit a power bar and phone in my purse?  As you know, I'm a practical girl.  Dressing for the red carpet is a whole new ballgame for me.  But I think I'm doing pretty good.

Check out my BEFORE and AFTER photos:

Okay, moving on.  The dressing up is the fun stuff.  The red carpet is work.  Let’s start with the arrival.  When you arrive at an award show you step out of your quiet car into a mad crowd of people filled with fans, guests, media, Brad Pitt.  This is what it looks like as you step into the red carpet tent:

The red carpet is very long and takes about an hour to walk down.  I took a photo of Angela posing for photos.  Look at how long the line of photographers is!  You pose for a few seconds and then walk a few steps and pose again.  The entire time people are SCREAMING at you to look at their camera or face a certain way or move into the light or move out of the way of another person.  It’s mayhem.  You have to keep a smile on your face and try not to look frazzled.

This is what you see:

This is what we see:

They also have these little booths set up for the different talk shows like E!, Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight.  You wait on the carpet for a break and then step up and quickly do an interview.  Here is what it looks like from my perspective:

Here is how it looks on TV:

Once you get inside it gets better.  Everyone has an assigned seat.  There was a plate of food waiting.  And a menu telling you what you are eating.  My favorite was the crab salad.  During the commercial breaks people get up and mill about.

After the awards there was a party next to the theater.  It was cool.  They had more food – I ate macaroni and mini-cream puffs.  Yum!  For no reason at all Angela, Paul, BJ and I decided to take photos of ourselves fake fighting:

And then Creed jumped up onstage and started singing with the band…which included Mickey Dolenz from The Monkees!  How cool is that!?

Angela, Oscar and I danced the night away as usual.  That pretty much wraps up the evening.  We didn’t win but we had fun.

Tonight I’m appearing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.  We’ll be talking about the big Superbowl episode among other things.  The other guest is Justin Long.  He's awesome!

Speaking of the Superbowl episode, I saw the opening and it is amazing.  It is definitely the wildest 2 minutes of The Office ever!  There is a semi-spoilerish review here if you are interested:

That's all for now!

Jenna, you HAVE to tell me this... My mother has been bugging me non-stop about the ties that Steve Carrell uses in the Office! She absolutely loves most of them. Can you give me a link to the person who picks them out or something? Or maybe a specific brand? Or a store that you guys go to to get the ties? Or ANYTHING? haha seriously, she's asking me every day.

That's cool! At these awards shows, are you only allowed one guest each? Could you take another guest if someone is going solo? If that's the case take me! You should have a contest and the winner gets to be your "date" at an awards show. I would have to go first to make sure it would be worthwhile hehe.

Another great blog! I have never seen a mountain of photographers before (the photo you took revealing your perspective from the red carpet). That was scary! It looks like a zoo for humans. I also never knew that the red carpet was so long--an hour to walk down? Wow! Is it really one long carpet, or is it split into sections? I was just wondering if it becomes a monstrosity when rolled up.
Thanks for sharing!

I've always wondered...A lot of the time you stand with one foot in front of the other, with both feet at an angle. Is this like a "signature" red carpet pose, or just something that is comfortable for you? I tried to find a quick example... Photobucket

If you stand with one foot in front of the other it is supposed to elongate your body and look better in photographs. And putting your hands on your hips makes your arms look thin and your waist look smaller. It's a little trick of the trade. I always feel silly doing the poses. But, if you look at the magazines a lot of actresses pose this same way.

this is cool and i am glad you posted this. i had always wondered what went on and what it was like. i know it's not all the glitz and glamour it seems to be. walking the red carpet for an hour would make me tired having to smile and pose for everyone every so many feet.

I don't think you need to apologize for the delay. We're a very understanding crowd here and realize you might have better things to do.

Wow, that crowd of photographers is insane! I think if I ever had to do something like that there would be about 5000 photos of me looking pissed off. You're ensemble was terrific and no more revealing than the Golden Globes dress to me. Anyway, thanks for the backstage info.
Two quick questions: Are you back to shooting "The Office" after the winter break and did you finish filming you other movie "A Little Help"?

You looked great! I love the 'behind the scenes' photos. And that neckline isn't too low. I'm from Indiana the heartland of 'midwestern values' and I thought the twins looked nice. LOL. Any chance we'll get to see Creed perform again on the show? I heard he is a great musician.
