No, not stocks.

Ridged potato chips. From Trader Joe's. Deep purple in color. Very delicious.

Anyone ever had them? I never even KNEW blue potatoes EXISTED until I came across this bag of chips at Trader Joe's a couple days ago. Intrigued, I had to try it. It feels strange eating them because they LOOK so funky. But they sure taste good!

If Scot's store sold blue potatoes and he put them on his weekly produce quiz (esp cut open), I would never have gotten it right, as I would've been convinced that no such thing existed in nature. Hmmm... DO you guys sell blue/purple potatoes? ;-)

Eeee! No Trader Joes!?

I used to think all they had was overpriced merchandise but was pleasantly surprised to find that I can get almost everything (except meat and fresh produce, which IS more expensive than regular supermarkets) for much cheaper there :-)

I am seriously thinking if I stay here, of buying a franchise. I know SEVERAL people in my most intimate circle that love to go there...
Plus I could manage my own deli, which is a secret dream of mine...(deli, resturant, soup kitchen, SOMETHING) and have access to all that strange and wonderful stuff found in the store!
These people go buy CASES of crap...monthly sometimes! And we have to drive far!

LOL-- forget Tupperware and Avon, you're going TJs :-D

That's not a bad idea-- how far away IS the closest Trader Joe's to you, anyway?

Yeah, I actually never heard of Trader Joe's until you mentioned it to me once a year or so ago.

I've never heard of blue potatoes either. But, then again, we are ALWAYS getting in new and varied kinds of produce, so I guess it's only a matter of time before we start seeing stuff like pink asapargus, red carrots, and purple banana's!

I have no idea how far away the closest TJ's is to me...I wonder if google could help me find out?

http://www.traderjoes.com/locations.asp

Nothing within 50 miles of Stevensville, but 50 miles is the max radius I could input. According to the pdf file that lists ALL locations nationwide, there's a handful in Illinois and a couple in Michigan and Indiana.

Oh, and for the record, if you mention the "blue chip" to anyone in Southern Michigan or Northern Indiana, they will automatically think you are talking about a casino called the "Blue Chip" in Michigan City, Indiana, about 45 miles from where I live. You know, just FYI. :~)

Haha, good to know! I'll keep that in mind next time I'm in the area :-)

Ah HA. Upon inspecting your link, it looks like the closest TJ's to me is in a retail sector of downtown Detroit. Detroit is about a 2 - 2 1/2 hour drive east for me, give or take the traffic on any given day! I think I'll be sticking with Meijer for my groceries for now, thanks! ;~)

Nothing in Chicago, even?

Well, maybe you should join in Kendra's bandwagon and open up a franchise in your town ;-)

Speaking of Meijers-- I've always wanted to ask (since we don't have them here)-- how do you pronounce it? May-jors? May-yors? My-ers?

Yeah, it's "My-ers". Hmm, you're right. I didn't even think to check Chicago. I was limiting my search to Michigan. I'll see if I can find a zip code for Chicago and look that up too.

Ah ha, it looks like just searching a common Cook County Chicago zip code yielded 3 results. So, there's a few choices in Chicago too. Still, that's ALMOST a 2 hour drive. Not goin that far just to buy what is surely overpriced organic produce (even if it IS a cool blue color), LOL!

But, at least they're in the BIG cities around here, if nothing else.

I don't go for the organic stuff myself, but TJ's is good for lots of other non-organic stuff that's surprisingly cheap.

And yeah, it's not worth making the trip out there, but if you ARE in the area, like on vacation or something, and you spy one, it's worth popping in to see what they have.

that is the only time I would ever go...

but other people think otherwise. We do pretty good, we have two dedicated organic food shops here in Eureka. I would think I had a pretty good business to start with if I could get city counsel to accept my proposal. (they wouldn't accept Wal-Mart)
