Dear Beloved Readers,
I must voice an absolute travesty that is occurring in California. The Gov't recently decided to completely stop funding the mentally ill and handicapped programs. But OF COURSE they decide to keep the programs for abused and battered women. I am pro woman and a feminist, but an abused and battered woman can still work and generate income to provide for their family, the mentally ill are mostly incapable to work, let alone survive without the help of others. words cannot express my frustration with the system. I can't do anything except express my point of view. I hope and pray that the system can change. this blog is my prayer that someone out there who cares or some higher power can help to change this madness. we need to care for the sick!! I wish that our society could be set up to take care of all of those in need.. there is more than enough.. especially if we cut out building nuclear warheads and stupid weapons programs, we could support ALL in need.. around the entire world. i just hope that something changes now, that something bad doesn't have to happen for big time changes.

on a lighter note, I just saw the movie friday the 13th.. it was terrible!! i hate horror movies, but my friends made me go see it and it really affected me. im too sensitive to watch such blatant gory movies. the scary thing is that there are some people out there who really do butcher people. God help them! i also recently saw the international which was totally dope, but the best movie i have EVER SEEN is Defiance. go see it.

love you all from Palos Verdes high!! go check out the photos that I posted and all the people in LA that are 21 and up... come to ROOM 5 on march 6 at 8.30 pm..

wow..that is quite unbelievable really. it’s amazing the people that are in charge of ‘the people’ they have no clue about people’s needs. one would think they would realize how challenging being mentally ill or handicapped is in the first place & then realize how it affects the families as well. always keep up that hope, you never know when something or someone can make changes happen.

my 10 yr old nephew wanted to see Friday the 13th, I said no way!
movies like that do in some ways give ideas to the ones you say butcher people. they have those tendencies anyways, but it doesn’t help matters by creating these movies for the world to see.

i’m a fan of paranormal horror movies, but gory slasher movies i don’t like. i went yesterday & saw Push, but have yet to see Defiance, but i will.

those are really nice photos from palos verdes.
i’m sure they had such an amazing time with you & you ROCKED them out!!!

i agree with you 100%...we really do need to help the mentally ill and handicapped!! i wish there was some way for us to change that law. You are such an inspirational person; hopefully you can get someone's attention that has more power and can help out.

i also hate horror movies. they make me think about the people that are victims of those crimes in real life! i will definitely have to watch defiance and the international at some point since i have not seen either.

good luck with your year and i hope that you will come play some where close to elmira or binghamton NY!! have fun and keep playing amazingly!

love ya,
Lauri Anne

I messaged you what I thought of what they're doing.. but to put it nicely I don't agree with what they're doing one bit... being a disabled person. Soon it'll be the entire country but I am glad you've brought light of the situation Justin... I hope by the time I get out there they've made some changes for the better.. and I wanna see Friday the 13th again! :) Maybe with a guy.. because it scared me LOL... I'm really jumpy!!!

That's not fair the mentally ill or handicapped deserve a better attention
and they have the same rights
that "people" in charge are totally blind?
how can they stop funding mentally ill or handicapped programs¿?
it's not fair .

I believe in that someone will help to solve it.

Hey Justin,

Well, while I agree that stopping funding for the mentally ill and handicapped programs is a truly heinous and uncaring move, I think your using the fact that they kept programs for abused and battered women as a reference of spending is somewhat odd. I have nothing but love and respect for you, but I disagree with your PoV that "an abused and battered woman can still work and generate income to provide for their family". Some can, to be sure - and moreover, many will. However, all too many can't or are forced into a position where they have to work and are not ready to do any such thing.

In many ways, abused and battered women are no different than the mentally ill. The major difference is that most of mentally ill are born as such and abused and battered women are honed into a life or cycle of abuse. However, the abused often also become victims of circumstances that can trigger psycological issues - as well as the furthering of abuse.

Obviously, abuse isn't just spousal. It's also something that not everyone has the ability to get over and carry on with life once they've gotten away from th abuser. The devestation of self-esteem and feelings of worthlessness can't always be addressed properly - regardless of how willing the person might be to counseling.

I KNOW you're a good and caring guy. I firmly believe your heart is in the right place. Yet, I find your comparing the funding of those two programs to be somewhat short-sighted. I'm sure there are other programs that survived that you could've just as easily questioned. Of course, you are entitled to your opinion and I'm glad you care enough about the mentally ill to voice your concerns and be as involved as you can.

Changing gears within the same topic....

Mental illness is a serious issue, but as a society we basically shun it and hope it never enters our lives. That's obviously the wrong way to think about it, but not really the lesser of multiple evils. Many parts of the world still end the life of a mentally ill or handicapped person, or inflict experimentation upon them. Even in the great US of A, not everyone is properly diagnosed and medicated right off the bat, you know.

Recently there was a story about a jailed man who was mentally ill who pulled out his own eyeball and ate it. He was in jail for having killed his own wife and child. He had also eaten the other eyeball previously. This poor man is distinctly a danger to others and himself and is doomed to a life of institutionalization. Is that really a life, though? What can he possibly enjoy with his illness being so horrible? These are questions I've been asking myself since I read the story.

As for "Friday the 13th" - well, I too hate horror movies. I don't like to be scared and I detest gore and horror violence. Plus, why re-make what's considered a "classic"? Too many horror remakes are coming out because the new generation is so desensitized to gore and violence that they only laugh at the originals. Meh. I could rant, but won't.

That's all from me, my bud. Much love to you! Kudos for posting your thoughts, even if I don't see eye to eye with you.

As ever,

Jerry

OMG are you freaking kidding me Justin????? That pisses me off beyond belief, yes I am not from Cali but you know I'm moving there.. DAMN you California government... I just don't know what to say.. for once in my life I am speechless... but you're are right... nothing against battered women but they can work... me being disabled and not being able to have a job at the moment because of health issues I know how frustrating it can be. Now they're going to make it harder for people out there?? That's a bunch of BS... I swear when I move out there they have been changes made for the better because I WON'T take this lightly... grrr I have much more to say but I'm cutting it short because I'm so mad.
DAMN YOU ARNOLD!

I totally agree with you. the Government is jsut rediculouse. Well in my Econ. calls we have been calling legislatures at the state capital and speaking to them about the budget and how it affects many programs.... so next time we call I will make to speak on your behalf against the metally ill.. cuz i bet the jails get more money for a prisoner than a mentally ill person gets for their family...

That really is wrong Justin.

The Government should keep funding for those who cant provide for themselves. like you said im not against the battered and abused women, but its true that an abused person can still get a good job. Handicapped and mentally disabled persons have little they can do for money because of their disabilities.

It is extremely unjust and unfair for the government to do such a thing. this is one of those times where i frown upon our state government.

I'd have to agree with you. The CA gov't is a bit questionable. Just look at what has happened.
But yeah, you guys need to elect a whole new grade of people!!

Justin - That is a complete and disgusting travesty. You know my background and where I work and how much I value my employer and the Mission. How the hell will cutting off funding for mentally and physically challenged people save money ? IT WON'T .
The people who NEED this funding will have to seek help from welfare; if even that !

I totally agree with your comments about nuclear warheads and weapons programsn . Another program that I think is a waste of money is the space programs. Scrap that and put the money back where it should be . People who need it and the very WORTHWHILE programs it provides . As pretty as the pictures NASA sends back ; billions of dollars of research will not improve our planet and living conditions. Faith Love and Compassion are needed for that .

I am not in America but I know there have been cuts to health and education here.
Who can someone contact in California to protest this travesty ?

Thank you Justin for your passion and concern for your fellow man .

that is what LOVE is all about

Love and PEace

Wow. I hadn't heard what the CA government was up to lately. That's pretty messed up. I mean, I've had more experience on the abuse front than I'd like - and yeah, it was terrible...but you are right...I'm still alive and better now that I've moved past it all. The mentally ill cannot provide for themselves in most cases and do need the help. Maybe if some kind of petition was started and brought before the government, they'd at least know that people are having a problem with this.

Just a thought :)
