This has been a banner week for the Dynamiters. We released our first slab of vinyl ( a CD/7" which is now available in local record stores and at our shows), and earlier this week we
crossed the Mississippi River into our sister city of
Saint Paul to 'do our thing' for
Chris Robert's Local Show on
89.3 FM 'the Current' to promote our new release. Our interview and performance will be aired on 5pm this Sunday the 27th, and can be listened to live on the interweb
here, but it is possible a complete and unedited account may appear on this very blog for your amusement at a later date.
Besides snagging a lot of valuable
Garrison Keillor vintage ephemera to
launch on eBay, it was hands down the most enjoyable band-in-a-radio-studio experience any of us had been a part of. Chris made us all feel very comfortable with some gentle Shiatsu shoulder massage and lots of free coffee, while Mike the engineer had within a minute of hearing us conjured what I can only call the best headphone mix of my life (that is what can you expect when you've got
the guy who was Violent Femmes' soundman in the early 80's behind the board). It was a splendid time and their posh MPR facility was certainly easy on the eyes. We Dynamiters say a hardy thank you to MPR members (and especially those in the
Leadership Circle) for footing the bill for such sweet digs for us to make a mess of. No one even complained about our vintage amplification starting on fire or our constant lefty political diatribes or even our generally bad hygiene. It was a good day.
The fine staff at the Current have even included
our own song '(Do the) Do As You're Told' as the Download of the Day for April 25th. They really went all out, and besides being in their debt for all of this, we probably also owe them some money for the two flat tires on the dolly we used. Oops. Really though, it was nice to get the local recognition, but I would have done it all to hear Dave's explanation of why
this song should be chosen to played as our outro anthem on Sunday.
We've also added some photos from our time at the Current as well as some from of our all too brief jaunt with
the Hold Steady in our photo section, so check it out. And God bless
Jeff Brown for getting us to Milwaukee to play with them.
