In my opinion, Karl Marx was a Doofus of Doofuses, but he might have gotten one thing right -- his statement that "Religion is the opiate of the masses." As the adage goes, "A broken clock is right twice a day."

Enough on the virtues of Marx -- policies of the sort that he advocated can be linked to the deaths of 262 million people between 1900 and 1999. Where 19th century political philosophers are concerned, Frederic Bastiat, Lysander Spooner, and Lord Acton are more up my alley.

As for religion, I've known all my life that it and I don't get along well. All those Sunday mornings when my parents dragged me to church were, in my opinion, time better spent sleeping in. Anyway . . .

A few months ago, I went to see a tarot card reader, and while I was leaning to the skeptical side, we got along well. She complimented me on my musical tastes, something that none in the family have done. She told me that I was psychic (that was a surprise), that religion and I didn't get along well (nice to have confirmation there, as my mother is big on the "New Age" stuff) and that things would start looking up for me.

After we were done, I left and went to work to pick up my check. After getting my check, the store manager offered me a "promotion." It's a promotion in that I have more responsibilities, and people look to me more to get things done, but I'm still waiting for the extra cash. Oh well.

Maybe it was just a coincidence -- I'm willing to concede that. Still, the circumstances and timing spooked me a bit.

Anyway, while chatting on Yahoo IM with someone special, she told me that she felt "evil" for being interested in tarot cards, ghosts, and such. (I disagree with her on this, as she hasn't initiated force or fraud against anyone with this interest.) I told her about the above, and that I wasn't particularly spiritual.

Anyway, as for religion, IF I had to pick a religion, it would most likely be some form of Wicca or Witchcraft, especially the part about the Rede -- "As you harm none, do as thou wilt." I'm not sure about the Rule of Three ("What you give out comes back to you threefold"). Nor am I really big on deities or rituals.

Therefore, "Officially Speaking," I consider myself to be an agnostic -- I don't know if there are any higher powers, and I'm not going to worry about the issue. If they do exist, they and I seem to have an agreement to live and let live.

I don't have a problem with atheism per se, but most of the atheists I've met make non-religion into another religion, which (for me, at least) is self-defeating.

Permission granted to cuss me out here, call me a Satanist, etc.

Thank you!

And I'm willing to be your guinea pig or lab rat to see how good you are with those tarot cards.

As long as Victor's cat doesn't get me first ... eek! eek!
