Last week, I came down with a throat infection -- bad enough that I had to call off from work on Saturday (28 July) and Tuesday (31 July). I went to the local Lovelace office on Monday (30 July), where I made an appointment and was seen that same day. (I say this in sharp contrast with the Canadian "single-payer" system that Michael Moore champions with his recent "documentary" titled Sicko* -- in Canada, I would've been put on some kind of waiting list and been seen whenever the system's administrators felt like it.)

While waiting to see the doctor, I learned that the health insurance that I was paying for through payroll deductions at work had been lost, so I paid cash -- something that's illegal in Canada.

So I went to see the doc, and she prescribed me ten days' worth of amoxicillin. That worked out pretty well, until last Tuesday (7 August). That night, I literally blew up with red-colored hives all over -- kind of like a body-wide case of poison ivy. In response to the rash, I've been taking generic Benadryl (diphenhydramine hydrochloride) like candy, and it's helping a good bit.

Sorry to hear you were sick Mike.
Personally I don't go to see witch doctors that prescribe dope to cure all ills.
For instance I've got some bad teeth that could require some attention.
Since I don't have any extortion, oh i mean insurance. I'm left to my own devices.
During my last flareup I brushed my teeth more often than usual and rinsed with salt water.
While doing this I meditated on healing myself and also did a little meditation before bed time.
Every morning I woke up better than the day before. With in two days my mouth was feeling fine.

The only way to make the system better is to first decide there is something better out there for you. Then do it and not send your money to the dope doctors any more. With the savings you can afford a few boxes of ammo to sharpen your marksman skills or something else you enjoy.

We don't need no stinking doctors or their dangerous dope !

Thank you for the note of sympathy!

Actually, I'm feeling much better -- the generic Benadryl seems to have done the trick.

And since I ended up paying cash for the doctor visit and the prescription, I'm gonna drop the payroll deduction for the "health insurance" and go with Simplecare.

Anyway, I copied this blog posting to my politics / society / news site, KCUF Media, as it's got content that's applicable there.

Just do the ole' Texas cure all.
Dr. Goat prescribes that you drink a shitload of whiskey, double up on blankets and sweat it out. Then when you throw up in the morning the stomach acid should eat away most of the infection, plus you'll be too drunk to worry about the hives.
