The issue of gay marriage is one where NEITHER side has thought much in-depth &
BOTH sides act like pure assholes!!!!

OPPONENTS of gay marriage are idiots b-cuz they DON'T have the fuckin' guts
to even acknowledge that America really ISN'T a country that separates church & state

[we're a nation founded on Christian beliefs, that tolerates the practice of other religions].
If we really separated the 2, then our govt. WOULDN'T put Under God on ANYTHING &
being affiliated with evangelicals WOULDN'T be a pre-requisite for a Supreme Court judge.

On the flip side, SUPPORTERS of gay marriage are always talking about human rights....
even though they spend a shitload of energy trying to SILENCE anybody who'd even dare
exercise their constitutional right to say
, "I DISAGREE with homosexuality"!!!!
In their opinion, it's only OK to come out & say that you're FOR gay marriage....
but, you'd better shut the fuck up if you're AGAINST it!!!!

Even though today's topic centers around a community's reaction to gay marriage....
I think that it's important for me to say that my intent ISN'T to find out &
discuss everybody's view of gay marriage
....
if you're FOR it, then GOOD & if you're AGAINST it, then that's just as OK.
But, today, I'm here to talk about sumthin' fucked up that I saw on TV a few weeks ago
that's illegal regardless of what side of the gay marriage coin that you're on.

A few weeks ago, I was watching TRUE LIFE: I HAVE GAY PARENTS on MTV
& something REALLY pissed me off on it.

There was a girl named Aiden from Richmond, Virginia who goes to John Marshall HS.
Her parents were lesbians & Aiden was a gay rights activist in her school.

Aiden was trying out for drum major & sumthin' kept coming into play that SHOULDN'T
even have any bearing or significance @ her school whatsoever [especially in a tryout]
....
that subject was HER PARENTS LIFESTYLE!!!!

When Aiden was trying out for drum major, there were teachers [doing the judging] asking
her questions about her parents being lesbians
.  Some of Aiden's teachers & classmates were
stupid enough to tell MTV [in interviews] that they were skeptical about choosing Aiden to
be drum major, b-cuz they feared the backlash from parents in the community
[who'd disagree
with her lesbian parents' lifestyle]!!!!

Despite everyone saying that she was talented enough to be drum major....
NOBODY could give her praise WITHOUT commenting about being afraid to pick her!!!!

OK....  maybe I missed sumthin'.  Isn't this public school?!
Are you trying to tell me that we've actually got idiots in America
that DON'T even realize that you can get sued for bringing her parents' lifestyle into it????
Moreover, I'm shocked that they'd be retarded enough to say this stuff on TV.
"Oh we're scared to pick Aiden, b-cuz she's got gay parents"----how RIDICULOUS is that?!

What difference does it make who her parents are fucking?!  If she's talented, then she is!!!!
I can't believe that these students & teachers were actually thinking about punishing Aiden
b-cuz of something her parents do AWAY FROM THE SCHOOL!!!!

In the end, Aiden ended up being selected, despite everyone's fears.
But, I'm amazed that her parents' lifestyle even came into the picture to begin with.

Currently watching:
Van Helsing (Full Screen Edition)
Release date: 19 October, 2004

You're right about the way that MTV shoves homosexuality into your face....   they really DON'T do it in a manner that's trying to make people aware that it exists.  MTV goes about it in a manner that would make someone from outer space think that heterosexuality is a taboo.

As far as whatcha said about your kid....   man, in this day & age [with the way MTV promotes things], we ALL need to prepare for the day that our kids say, "Daddy, you're weird.  Why don't I have 2 daddies"?!

lol, i love that, you want to know if the moms were hot, that is SO somethin a man would say! but i'm curious actually as well, lol ;)

so do you not think it is good for mtv to promote gay rights? i think you are gonna have to explain it to your son someday anyways, that's just life and how society is now. all he needs to know is that some people prefer to kiss people of the opposite sex, while others like to kiss people of the same sex, and that everyone is different and has the right to choose their own preference...

I think that there's a difference between promoting gay rights & GOING OVERBOARD with it!!!!

They're really DON'T do much to focus on the RIGHTS aspect of it....   MTV just focuses on trying to shock people, when they least expect it.  What they do is more like exploitation.

Yeah, they're morons....   & one day, somebody's gonna slip up and be forced to pay millions!!!!

But, this whole issue just made me think about sumthin' that's JUST AS illegal....   I understand that many gay students feel UNSAFE in schools with hetero students & I've heard that there's actually a public HS in NYC that's designated for gay students.  However, that's JUST AS ILLEGAL!!!!  I can't see anybody bothering to challenge its legality.  But, if somebody ever did [& I could cite a hypothetical scenario], then that school would be TOAST!!!!

I hear ya & completely understand.  But, folks who support gay marriage would blow a gasket & claim that you're homophobic for even saying that [but, fuck it, you've gotta right to say that & feel the way that you do about it].

Still, regardless of how ANY of us feel about the gay thing....   we CAN'T ever be stupid enough to let our feelings come into the equation, in any place that the law says that it cannot.

I saw that episode and i kept wondering the same thing..."what the fuck do her parents have to do with her SCHOOL activity?  why does what her parent do AWAY from SCHOOL hinder her life?  And I agree with you that our government is based on religion and that for some reason human rights aren't considered on the part of the gay nation for people who aren't gay.  Both sides have this "us against them" attitude that really doesn't solve any issue.  I don't take a side on this because both sides are so extreme left or extreme right that someone in the middle can't take a side, they won't let you. but kudos on this, I was pretty pissed off after I watched that episode as well!

It was enraging....   the thought that what parents do could actually hinder students.

We ALL know that alotta people have these sentiments inside of them....   but, you'd think that they'd be smart enough to know when & where you've gotta shut that shit off.

I think that old people are SUCKY drivers....   but, if I ran a pizza delivery service, then I CAN'T deny a qualified 75-year old applicant a job just b-cuz I have issues about whether he'd be able to see well @ night.

Damn did not see that but yea what in the hell does her parents sexuality have to do with her becoming a drum major. If they started to pick kids for stuff based on their parents then not sure 45% of the schools could at a full team of anything going.

True....   I couldn't imagine if somebody @ my kid's school said, "We're a community that believes in ONLY having sex in the MISSIONARY position & well....   years ago, your father wrote a blog on Myspace about how his favorite sexual position is DOGGYSTYLE.  For this reason....  we dunno if it'd be right for us to keep you on the club".

What someone should do is go around asking all the teachers about their parents' lifestyles and questioning their qualification as members of the faculty.

Yeah....   nobody can teach sex education, unless they've starred in a porno flick.  That's a start.

If you choose to place your children in public school you are choosing not to shelter them from the discriminating ways of this world. It's the choice I'll make because this type of ignorant behavior is prevalent among us and will continue to be so throughout their adult lives. Instead of trying to educate or "change" the ignorant, I will teach my CHILDREN to be brave, patient and tolerant. Even when faced with blatant hate for the things that are feared simply because they are not understood. They [racists, homophobes, etc] hate the differences within others and the only way to combat this is with patience for THEIR differences. Not hate for THEM. Simply...hating them for hating you is not a proactive solution. If we concentrate on the children of today, the children of the past will follow their new example because let's face it..they're fucken sheep. On topic: Every diversified group in history has had opponents and had to battle for their right to participate amongst the uppity bitches that run us. Why should gays get a free ride? As a black man you must surely fight discrimination at some points in your life...as do I, a woman brow-beating my way to the top of my profession, which is dominated by males. I enjoy the fight and I haven't heard you crying yet, so why get pissy about it happening to lesbians?

You've missed the entire point of my blog.

I wasn't "crying" or "getting pissy" about gay rights....  & I certainly haven't revealed my own personal position on gay marriage.

My blog was SOLELY about the fact that a school [funded by public tax money] had the audacity to do something blatantly illegal!!!!  Yes, discrimination is all around us....   but, the fact still remains that it's illegal to discriminate in the public school system based on sexual preference & it's RIDICULOUS that the sexual orientation of a student's parents would even be an issue in a school-sponsored extra-curricular activity!!!!  And even MORE ridiculous that school officials would get on TV & state that Aiden's parent's sexual orientation was what made them have reservations about picking her to lead a band that is funded by federal money!!!!

If I sent my kid to an ALL BLACK public school in the inner city & he wanted to tryout for the basketball team....   the school has NO RIGHT to tell my kid, "We're thinking about cutting you, b-cuz we heard that your father's best friend is White & we dunno how parents would react to a White guy coming to our basketball games [even though he's a friend of your father]".

That's bad, as is....   but, if the coaches were videotaped saying this stuff, then they'd be looking @ a serious lawsuit!!!!

What difference does it make if discrimination is a part of society???  Right is right & wrong is wrong.  Just b-cuz ignorance exists DOESN'T mean that we should turn a blind eye to it & sweep that shit under a fuckin' rug.

You also made a comment about my NOT crying as a Black man....   well, maybe it's b-cuz I've grown up & don't have anymore tears left to shed!!!!  You weren't there when I took my ass-whipping from police MORE THAN ONCE, when people threw cigarette butts on me while screaming "Nigger", or many other instances!!!!  Don't judge me, based on what I don't talk about on Myspace with people that DON'T even know me well.  So, the next time that you wanna make a statement about NOT seeing a Black person crying....  I'd bet my life that their lack of tears certainly DOESN'T mean that the pain of being fucked over as a Black person is nonexistant.

If I had to "CRY" about racism in here....   do you understand how many fuckin' years I'd be blogging?????  I'd NEVER have the time to write about anything else.

I know this question wasn't addressed to me, but I don't think it's an issue of which group is being discriminated against.  It's the fact that a high school kid's parents are being discussed in an issue which really has nothing to do with them.  Whether they're lesbians or a traditional male-female couple, they should have nothing to do with this girl becoming drum major.  I think that is what has everyone so pissed.

BINGO!!!!  The issue is ALL ABOUT the fact that her parents' sexual orientation was even a concern of theirs.

Even if Aiden's parents were fucking sheep & every parent in the neighborhood was a PETA member....   you CAN'T tell her, "Ummm, we dunno if we can pick you as drum major b-cuz we don't wanna upset the community.  We heard that your parents have been cited for animal cruelty by the Humane Society"

Shit, the girl's tryout SHOULDN'T be based on anything other than her ability to do what the club is asking of her....  & they should've left the rest of that personal bullshit @ home.

Ok. But why "pissed"? None of this shit is new or remotely original. If her parents are active participants in her life, which I'm assuming they are, then they know what type of people are educating her. Her participation as a gay rights activist IN HER SCHOOL shows that she herself understands this better than even they do. And they still decide to be honest and upfront about their lifestyle, despite knowing the discrimination they will face. I, for one, would rather have all the facts I'm up against before competing. It sucks that people are considering her parent's lifestyle as a factor, but it's reality. People are fucked up. When she leaves school and faces the world they will still be fucked up. Better she learn how to deal with it now, I'd think.

"None of this shit is new or remotely original".

Actually, it is ORIGINAL in a MAJOR sense!!!!  Can you name any other instance where a public school official has gotten on TV & said, "We're thinking about depriving one of our students of an honor, b-cuz of her parent's sexual orientation"?

I'm sure that people say it ALL THE TIME....   but, people [in these positions] that discriminate AREN'T stupid enough to put it on record!!!!  They say it behind closed doors, with no cameras or tape recorders around.

Black people knew that cops beating Black motorists WASN'T new or remotely original either....   nevertheless, Blacks were still TOTALLY SHOCKED that somebody had actually caught them beating a motorist on videotape!!!!

"Better she learn how to deal with it now, I'd think".

If a stranger wants to yell "CARPET MUNCHER" or "DYKE SPAWN" out the window while she's walking down the street....   then, OK!!!!   It's wrong, but LEGAL regardless & fair game.  You can't sue somebody for yelling a slur out their car window.

But, a public school has an OBLIGATION [regulated by federal law] to NEVER be STUPID enough to inject their personal views about sexual orientation into anything that they do!!!!  And I'm just shocked that so-called EDUCATORS are teaching children when they DON'T even know the basics of what they're NOT allowed to LEGALLY do while on school premises.

that's SO fucked up, just goes to show that even in 2006, people are still so small-minded...

btw, did you hear about the lesbian who won homecoming/prom king at her college? look it up on msn, i read the story a couple of days ago...its causing quite the controversy there and they are all mad about it. i guess it was an all-girls university up until a couple years ago, and now they had their like second mixed dance and a girl ran and won the title of king, which i think is great! but the girl who won queen is really mad and so is a large portion of he school, but obviously enough people agreed with her and wanted her to win to vote her into that position! i just thought that story was interesting and related, so you should look it up if you have time... ;)
