Rookie of the Year's story with 111 travels along a long road laden with potholes, speed bumps, peaks, and valleys.  I signed these guys back in (I think) 2004 after Jeff Martin (a/k/a Slick - do you guys miss him as much as I do?) from This Day & Age sent me some tracks that Ryan Dunson (a/k/a Rookie) recorded.  At the time, Rookie of the Year was basically Ryan.  In addition to digging the music, I dug Ryan's work ethic and willingness to play anywhere in front of anyone.  The kid was fearless.  And today, some four years later, and together with Mike, Brandon, Pat, and Mick, Rookie still works harder than any band I know and will play anywhere they are asked to.  Like I said, it's been a rough road.  Ryan has dealt with numerous member changes and for a long time, being the black sheep of the label.  A lot of folks misunderstood Ryan - some 111 artists included - and mistaked his shy yet confident demenour for arrogance.  Ryan's not arrogant.  He's more funny than he is arrogant.  But he is determined and so is the rest of the band - a line up that is solid and permanent.  That's why Rookie is still around and in the scene while dozens if not hundreds of bands have come and gone.  The marketplace is oversaturated with bands - some good, some horrible.  But Rookie continues to stand out because of a dedicated work ethic, an exciting live show, and music that moves you - moves you to feel at one moment, and moves you to dance the next.  Rookie's the real deal and they are only getting started.  So check these boys out - listen to some tunes on the Myspace page.  If you love what you hear, pick up the record (it does come with a bunch of bonus tracks), buy a T-shirt from the 111 store, see them play live, or if nothing else, just tell a freind.

Thanks for reading.  Thanks for listening.

Very well said. I was starting to get nervous thinking there might be a catch at the end with horrible news that they were breaking up or something unthinkable. I would dieeee. Anyway, that said, Rookie never fails to impress me and their new cd only showcases how their talent has grown and they've become a strong, solid band. For the record, I miss This Day & Age :(

I very much agree with you - the Rookie guys are just incredible and so good to their fans! Can't wait to see them twice next week in Detroit & Cleveland.

And I agree with Rachel - I miss This Day & Age!
