Setting, a playground?

Ok, so the band is outside, and it's the start of sunrise...a new day if you will.
Jim starts to sing, and it shows a few kids jumping over a fence, them running around triumphantly as night shifts to day, and it quickly pans over to a few drunks still not willing to accept the fact that its' now day with a few open containers stumbling out of the sun, into a dimmer lit area (house? Bar?)
Then pans back to the 4 kids, and shows one of them with his hand on his chin, thinking of a grand scheme of what to do on this new wonderful day. ( maybe in one of those cool thought bubbles?) A girl he likes walks over towards him, and his thoughts are interrupted by his nervousness. He suddenly becomes tounge tied, and cant fins anything cool to say to the girl to impress her. He then forgets what it was he planned, as the girl giggles, and runs away. But luckily his 3 other pals are there to back him up, and they start to help the main kid remember what it was that he wanted to do today. (what exactly I don't know, hahah)

And thats all I could muster with what I got from the small amount of song.
Good luck peeps, ill be buying CTL the day it comes out!

cool sounds, inspiring, though i miss the perfection of the previous combination of songs, work, pain, sweetness, the middle, what more is there? well progress is ahead of us so.... aaahahahaha i thought that was part of the song though when the lady is talking. who is that lady i think she deserves credit? maye in the video you guys could get a small crowd together, kind of intimate with the lights dim, red, just enough to see everyones faces. you guys are standing there without instruments, as the music begins to play you jerk off on everyones faces. = )

The video show be "a day in the life" of the main character. The whole thing should be time lapsed, except for those everyday "moments of beauty" where everthing slows down, if only for a second or two.

I'm not entirely sure what the new video should be like...

BUT it should not be in a Big Casino. hahah.
Too predictable.
Make it in a really trashy apartment, or some kind of dive bar.

Now it's over

So I'm totally seeing something that start dark, the band starts playing and lights flash up one by one on each. The scenes change to street lights coming on and lights in houses. headlights and everything just gets lighter and lighter with each new light, until he end at sunrise.

You should do something with an old school rat pack feel. I see you guys around a pool table in tuxes with your bow ties loosened reminiscing about how the 4 of you got to where you are with little flashbacks to when you guys were kids, then pre-teen, then teens and so forth. The whole thing could culminate in a performance where you guys drop your pool cues, pick up your intstruments and then just rock out till it fades to black.

The entire video should be people stopping what they're doing and chasing something (chase the light) . Never in the video do you see what they're chasing (except at the end). Car wrecks, people running toward it, people running out of restaraunts and their homes. People getting out of their cars and chasing it...What is it?? At the end of the video as the music dies, the camera pans out to show that everyone is chasing after the ice cream truck (ice cream truck playing music).
If you use this idea, can I be in the vid???? -travis

Probably impossible or would cost too much money or take too much time but:

I think it would be cool to fly once around the world from like, LAX around then back to LAX, but going over some major worldwide cities, like, tokyo, paris, etc..
Record the whole trip from different camera angles.
Timelapse the entire trip into music video length.
It would be like chasing the sunlight as it 'appears' to spin around the earth.

incredible song...

i think an incredible video would deal with this guy visiting different areas throughout the country... the areas are all trashy/non-urban/wastelands, but before his eyes they transform into a beautiful scenery.. hence his "little part in something big"

Was the song title supposed to be a reference to Jim's side project Go Big Casino? That was the first thing I thought of when I saw the title of the new track.
I like the sound of the track, though it's a shame you couldn't put up the whole song.

Can't wait for the new album
seriously
[also love the 'Jimmy Eat World... New Album... Chase this Light...' on the new song - plugging yourselves through the medium of song. It's the best way.]

It being late and all.. I can't think of anything.
Make it different, and memorable
Not like all the sceno bands' videos.
And don't wear skinnies.

That is all the advice I have, but to be fair, whatever you do all of us will love it anyway.

Need to listen to the full song personally, but I do think it should stay away from the adolescent parties and the actual literal translation of running from the day. It's not only been done, it's been done by JEW. Perhaps having a guy (between 18 to 25; post graduation) still fiddling with being who he is. A gentleman, of course. Throughout the video he's doing ll the kind things perhaps he even stops to help a fumbling young woman. He gets no respect, and while very kind to most, he still gets his daily tedium and catches himself looking at those who weren't waiting patiently. Old friends pass by, with signifigant others, perhaps one with a child, all smiling at him, and a look of doubt washes over his face. Throughout his day, his job, daily tedium, he doubts himself. At the near end of the video, he runs hom to his apartment and quickly changes into a nice suit and runs to the finaly.
Either way at the end of the video he gets some time to step out and gets into his car and he stares up into the night sky to watch the sun catch him...to find as it lights up there's that same young woman caught off guard and their eyes catch... wearing her best evening dress.
they both found the stars they were looking for.
Just a simple idea.
-Adam

It should be in Vegas and it should be all Fear and Loathing- esque, to keep it interesteing. but youre all playing and tons, i mean TONS of people are walking past you, bumping into you- then the camera zooms out to show just a little timy Jimmy in all of vegas, hence- "playing your little part in something big". its gotta make sense, unlike alot of the other ideas- its gotta go along with the song, and i think thats a super clever line, so GO FOR IT! and of course ill be in it, sporting all my Jimmy tats and such haha. hope you like it!

since its called "big casino" im thinking vegas. elvis impersonators. lots of gambling. flashy lights. and jimmy eat world, of course, playing in vegas.
OOO, better. how about while all thats going on, make it like Oceans Eleven, a big heist in process.

all the power goes out and someone kidnaps jimmy eat world...

it could a "to be continued..." to the next video!

DO IT!!!

Comon, you should still do that cover! I listenend to the new single just an hour ago, and I it's a very promising clue in to what could be a great album. I didn't even adore Futures, but I think you're headed in a great direction. Plus throwbacks to Go Big Casino. I always wondered if anything would come of that.

I'm definately going to buy the album when it comes out.

What should your video be like? (Listens to song through a visual filter) First off, I imagine you'll hire a professional to process and tweak these ideas anyone's coming up with, if you decide to use them. Second, I'm not one for coming up with interesting ideas.

But. I think this song deserves some footage in a well-lit (modern, of course) airport. Y'know, to give off that feeling of potential not yet realized (taking off in an airplane/whatever), and you take care of that New Jersey (Garden State) reference right away.

It should have a dark theme to it (not gothic or anything) but have the high's and low's of people's time's in Casino's. No matter how much you win, money aint gonna solve every problem.

A small town with the sun coming up and you guys walking through the middle of the street. Show people heading out the door to go to their jobs and to school. Drunks stumbling down the sidewalk trying to make it home. Stop by the mini mart and see someone getting mad they didn't when anything off their scratch tickets. Kids getting on the school bus, and one skips away and ditches school. A guy getting yelled at by his boss. Through all of this you guys are standing in the background singing the song. I think you should emphasize that the world is a big casino, and we are all just gambling through life.

Glad to see a new album on the way, Me and some friends were discussing that a couple months ago.

i posted this up on the jimmy messege board, maybe you guys can tell me what you think as well: So i've been listening to big casino for a week now and I feel it's about this young guy who leaves his dead end life-- A sort of get-away story. I decided to take a shot at an idea- I decided to write up a quick synopsis of what would happen in the video when the lyrics would be sung. Not neccessarily where the lyrics are, but kind of give a synopsis how the story would be told in the video. I feel it would look so much better visually than how it looks written down.

I decided to use a type of cliche story of a young man on his own road trip, breaking girl's hearts on the way. I have him in an expensive car, to subltey tell maybe this kid made it big somehow with lottery luck, and this was his time and chance to get away. I made his destination being the west coast. He meets the first girl at a jew concert and leaves her the next morning while still sleeping (cliche right? haha) meets the next girl at a small-town grocery market... well-- read and let me know what you think- here's a link i made for it so it wouldnt take up too much room on the mb page and look messy:

I think the video should definitely be a relationship/success story.

Here's my idea. The video starts with a late teen/ early 20's kid in his car looking at a house, clearly upset. He starts up his car and drives away from the house. Then there's a blur and a flashback.

The story starts with the same kid meeting his best friends one night. They stay out late (the drunks and other kids all head home) He meets a girl through his friend and is immediately drawn to her but is aloof at best. Various scenes show the girl and the guy growing closer. Time is shown through season changes in the background (beach summer scene, leaves falling in autumn, snow in the winter, etc). Eventually the girl and guy start seeing eachother. His love of music is depicted by him showing her various cd's and a record collection. Their relationship peaks when she buys him a new guitar.

Time goes on however and they begin to struggle. The various scenes in which they had grown close becomes scenes in which they grow further apart culminating in an argument during which she tells him to leave.

This brings us to the present scene of the kid in his car. He's driving away from her place presumably. Once he goes home he opens the guitar case and is shown writing songs.

Eventually time goes on and it is revealed that the kid is actually Jim and his best have become the bandmates. They are playing at a sold out concert in front of thousands of fans. (this is the performance part of the video.) Jim should be playing the same guitar the girl had bought him. Thus everyone has played their own little part in something big. The friends in the introduction of the girl, the girl in the introduction of performing music to the boy, and the boy growing up to bring the music to others.

As the band packs up, loads everything up and gets ready to go back on the road someone approaches the tour bus. Jim looks and sees the same girl from all those years ago. As the song ends Jim sees her and they look at one another.

To be continued of course.

This could be a two or three part story that can be told through the other singles off the new cd. Chasing the light could simply be trying to find one's place in the world as well as one's place in another's life.

Enjoy =)

I think it has to include some concert footage, cause you guys are iconic on stage. also some clips to reflect the decidedly visual lyrics. perhaps brief glimpses on a few different characters...life is a 'big casino' for everyone after all.
