Who Gives Kudos:

Wednesday, November 26, 2008
We took ourselves captive, and became our own producers, manufacturers, and distributors. It was a deferential revolt against inertia, a clearing of the throat to answer the quiet. Or maybe it was an inevitable reaction to seeing Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.

In adherence to our own demands, these songs were recorded in a cabin in Bearsville, NY, as a simple sonic manifestation of our opinions concerning the arguable value of a waterlogged paperback.

A Free EP prospectively titled: The Dawn before the Dark Leaves or Water off a Black Dog's Back or Amazing Life or Butterfly Mornings and Wildflower Afternoons or May we never go go mental, may we always stay stay gentle or The Fear of not Being Afraid or Erica Harris and her Ubiquitous Threads or The Warmth Within the Warren or Dreaming of Sleeping or Saying It to Keep It From Happening or This is not the Dark Leaves or Living for Liv Ullman or The Odds of a Sunrise or Whispering Pines or You'll be the Rhythm and I'll be the Beat and I'll be the Rhythm and You'll be the Beat or The Grass Harp or Goodbye Barcelona or Why is my copy of the Moviegoer Floating in a Puddle Beside the Car.

Or simply, The Freeep. It comes along with a new site by the sweetest, Julie Ruiz and the guys at Eastmedia, Jeff Ng, Jeff Boulet and Albert Hwang– as well as a video by the coolest, Ed Lowther.

The following events led us to take such measures and bring us to now:

* My glasses flew to Los Angeles and back without me.

* We went to the sculptures made from honeycombs. Wire structures which bees built in and around. Almost like nature nodding back at Gaudí.

* Seeing the band Monotonix made me forget about myself and the rest of world while they played. For forty-five minutes, I could've been a bee.

* Life is inherently good. It has to be. Or else.

* I speak out loud when I type. I want to make certain my words can be verified for their veracity. No one appreciates this part of the struggle.

* The latest Mike Leigh film is brilliant. And positive commentary is nothing to fear.

* For example, Dan Crowell and Chris Hansen rule.

* We're all equal participants in our existence. There are better ways to prove it than 'the hand in the fire' experiment (though this is still one way).

* Words of Kelly Link and Dave Eggers whip around in my head. Perhaps I'm fickle. I once had a cheap t-shirt explaining "I Heart Zadie Smith". Never had the cojones to wear it.

* I want to go back to Barcelona.

* And yet, the things I want return to me in mutated forms. As if below the sky and beneath the stars, my hopes transform into irradiated boomerangs.

Actions, imperfect by design, add up and recur as only vague representations of their original aim. But that is the purpose of our personal coup. Flimsily blindfolded and loosely tied beside a stream with only a handful of stones. The intention of throwing rocks in the river is not for the splash, nor to see them sink — but to believe in their modest wake.

Been listening to your newest EP, and it's quite grand.

It helps me to sketch easier.

Hope to see you in Philly again soon.

you'd be surprised how many of us do the same, and how many more appreciate the struggle entirely.

"Why is my copy of the Moviegoer Floating in a Puddle Beside the Car"
:]

it's the random and the real that make music worth listening to. It's like regina spektor singing about orca whales, or that time when the dj played the same song twice, it's so out of the blue, and so down to earth and so lovely, and you can't get enough.

keep on keepin' on.

your music is delightful.
