Joe Elliot Slams Poison!

I know, it's kinda old news at this point, but I must say a few words about Joe Elliot (Def Leppard) talkin' some smack about Poison and Motley. Mainly because he is continuing to talk smack in other interviews as well.

Some of Joe's commets >They (Motley Crue and Poison) didn't have any substance musically, I don't think, in comparison to us, so we didn't feel we needed to do it. Bands that do that are doing it to cover up the fact that there is no substance in their music.< ( More can be found at: http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=100855 )

Now, I'm sure Motley can defend themselves, so I'll leave that alone and Bret did cover it rather well. However, I was talkin' with some friends last night and we were shaking our heads wondering when Joe became a rock historian. Well, Joe, when did ya? Do you think saying bad things about another band makes people like your band more? Oh, no. Can't be it. Let me guess, "You were JUST being honest." Look, I have always enjoyed Def Leppard. But, as of late that pre-programmed, Mutt Lang live record you guys are doing out there on tour is anything but "substance". JUST being honest.

Joe! I'd be hurt if this were coming from John Lennon. Listen up, you are not quite that important there fella! Ya know, just like you I put my pants on one leg at a time, but when I put mine on Joe, they are cooler than yours! But, does it really matter? So it takes about 1 minute and 45 seconds to put on eyeliner. I suppose during that same time you were writing the next "Imagine". In the words of the great Aerosmith, "Get a grip!" Oh, and by the way, just to add to your royal information pool of rock history, Sir Joe, in the 70's it was "Glitter Rock", in the 80's it was Glam Rock.

Personally, I don't give two hoots about what any band wears on stage, as long as they play good songs. I'm a fan of both Poison & Def Leppard, it certainly wasn't the outfits that got me hooked to the music in either case! I've never seen Poison live (yet) but I have seen DL a few times. They always put on a great show and I believe that, when I do get to see Poison, I'll be saying the same there. That's what matters the most to me when I'm paying my hard-earned money on CDs and concert tickets.

Some people make themselves feel better by saying negative things about others, just the way it is. You guys have earned your place in rock'n'roll history just as DL has, through hard work and dedication to what you do best. I'm sure Joe will find you are all much nicer than the Motley guys will be LOL..you know Nikki will give them a verbal smack down if he so chooses to anwer back to his comments.

I think Joe may be feeling a little put out you guys are doing so well...jealousy is very unbecoming.

Love&Blessings,
T

I can never understand when Joe gets on his ridiculous rants. They do a whole album of covers of music that was decisively image-oriented, call those artists their influences, and he goes on to rag on bands that did things in essentially the same spirit a decade or so later. Does Joe not get it that for the most part, Def Leppard fans = Poison fans = Bon Jovi fans = Motley Crue fans = etc.
?

Sure, some sold a few more records than others because they crossed over into the mainstream when the timing was right, but it's all essentially the same genre. Def Lep's fan base isn't going to change or expand because they toured Bryan Adams or did a duet with a country star, or by trash-talking like it's 1985, and it sure isn't going to expand by lip-synching on "Dancing With The Stars.
"

Joe: your core fan base is older now - you're not trying to compete for our dollars over another band; chances are, if we're still caring enough to buy your latest CD, we've also bought the latest Crue and Poison CDs as well.

Bret did put it well by basically saying what is the point of slagging on each other? Hell, somebody asked Vince Neil on Larry King if he was still angry at Axl for their fistfight some 20 years ago backstage at an awards show, and he shrugged it off as a non-issue/old news.

Make your music, play it live... it seems like a pretty good gig from the other side of the stage.

You DO have some cool ass pants! Guys that wear eyeliner ROCK. I love BOTH of you guys and hate hearing anyone talk shit about anyone else. I think almost EVERYONE is guilty of it at some point or another but I really wish it would all stop. We're all in the same fight right now and we're all in it together. Maybe he was drunk or something and didn't realize what he was saying. Maybe not. I hope this gets cleared up though and everyone can make up cause a tour with both of you guys one day would KICK ASS.
XOXO

Man who pissed in his Wheaties? LOL Looks like the greeneyed monster has got poor ol' Joe! I think its bullshit that one band has to bash another just to make themselves feel like they have accomplished something! Sounds like someone is on an ego trip! Yeah Rikki most of us put on our pants one leg at a time, but at least we don't put them on backwards like Joe has done. What an ass! I gotta say I have met you guys numerous times and you guys put on one hell of a show and are the nicest ppl.
I have taken friends to your shows who weren't really even fans of Poison but after seeing a show, they are now and i think that says something! You guys keep kickin ass and hopefully i will see ya this summer!!

Def Leppard did not have any "substance" in their music. Sorry, just being honest.

Their lyrics made absolutely no sense. Just seemed like a bunch of jumbled words that may have sounded good together.

"Pour Some Sugar On Me" Hello?!

Don't get me wrong--Rick Allen overcame something I think most people would have given up on. I give him Kudos for not letting his accident end his musical carreer. He was determined and dedicated and for that, he gets my respect.

Joe Elliot just seems egotistical and arrogant.

Well I Look At It This Way If There Were No Substances In There Music They Wouldnt Have Any Fans And Wouldnt Be Selling Records,Yeah I Will Admit I Dont Like SOMe Hairbands But Does That Mean They Dont Have Any Substances In There Music?NO!!!!!!

I Like Leppard Best But I Also Enjoy Poison & Most Hair Bands,However I Never Classified Leppard As Glam Metal Though.

Im Surpirised No Ones Repacted To The People Of The Big Four Of Thrash That Insulted Glam Metal
