I finished the rough script for SPIKE:ASYLUM # 5.  So that means, aside from refining the script a bit, the writing is done done done.  I'm really proud of the series, Spike has a pretty sweet character arc, and a slew of new characters are introduced that will hopefully be used again.  ASYLUM PART II?  Hope so.

Franco's art continues to amaze me.  I have the completed art for issue two, all colored and finished; Franco took my script and just blew it up.  It's a real honor to work with him, stuff that I was questionable about in script form worked perfectly because of how he carried it all out.

As for the series, it feels epic.  The first issue plays like an episode of ANGEL (or, more accurately, an episode of a SPIKE TV show, as Angel isn't in it), but by the last couple of pages, it turns into something bigger, and the rest of the series reads like a big SPIKE summer movie.

The second issue is action packed, and pretty dark.  Seeing it all laid out, I was surprised at HOW dark it goes.  That's not to say it's fun, our lead character is a smart-ass, and a lot of the new characters are funny, but bottom line, a series about a tortured former evil vampire thrown into an asylum for monsters is gonna go to some dark places.

Third issue lightens up, has one of the best action scenes in the entire series, and all the ladies that have emailed me asking to find SOME WAY to get Spike's shirt off (even in cartoon form, James Marsters is a heartbreaker, it seems) should send me thank you notes now.

Fourth issue is also full of action, and things get kinda dark.  Remember the last couple of episodes BEFORE the season finale of BUFFY and ANGEL?  The leads were in dire situations, it appeared there was no way they'd win the day?  Yeah, that's our issue four.  But it all sets up...

Issue five, which is chock full of crowd pleasing moments, character resolution, some death, and a finale that I think most people won't see coming.  I mean, I did, but...

Anyway, I can't wait for you guys to read it.  I hope you like it.  It's written by a super fan of Whedon's world, drawn by a super-fan of Whedon's world, and I think it shows.

One month and counting!

Thanks for reading.

"Big SPIKE summer movie". That's exactly the perfect phrase to make me insane with excitement. If that doesn't earn you a pair of Kudos, I don't know what the hell does.
