Okay, so Whedonesque, myself, and Newsarama all have Franco Urru's cover for ANGEL:AFTER THE FALL on display. And wow, the reaction! Couldn't be happier. I'm telling you, the damn thing is epic. Picture THAT, for 27 pages. But with dialog. And more characters. And some panels. That's ANGEL:AFTER THE FALL issue 1. I wish it were November, so we can talk about it. You guys are in for a treat.

I'm also working on a little something called EVERYBODY'S DEAD. Five issues, early 2008. Similar in tone to BUFFY and ANGEL, a bit more gorier and raunchier, but with heart and characters and romance. It's something I've been working on for over a decade. I love these characters. I've actually written many sequels to it, and teamed them up with characters I could never get permission to use, just because I dig writing it so much. This is what's called a "passion project", methinks. I hope anyone who's enjoyed my stuff (my writing, not my dance moves...though they're sweet too) will check it out. It's a fun ride.

Joining me for the series is the crazy talented Dave Crosland. You might know him from BAD IDEAS or SCARFACE: SCARRED FOR LIFE, or maybe the new GYM CLASS HEROES album cover. I've pictured this series for years, and as character sketches and pages come in, Dave delivers stuff (art, not dance moves) that blows away my expectations.

Here are some character sketches for Aurora, the leading lady of the comic. Enjoy, and then scroll down for more babbling goodness.

Aurora---

And if you want to be a friend to EVERYBODY'S DEAD on myspace (where we post all the art and previews and such)---

JUST CLICK HERE!

Thanks!

Also, in honor of ANGEL:AFTER THE FALL being available for order THIS WEEK (check out PREVIEWS for a sweet, sweet full-page ad with ordering info), I'm opening up the floor to questions. I won't answer any questions about who's returning (i.e. "Is Wesley back?" or "Did Gunn die?"), but beyond that, I'm an open book!

So, in the comment section below, ask your ANGEL questions and I will proudly and happily answer them in a blog later in the week. If the questions are too spoilery I will simply recite QUEEN lyrics instead of answering the question.

Ask away! And thanks everyone!

Brian

gorier and raunchier are good... I'll definitely be subscribing to 'Everybody's Dead'!
I'm afraid most of my questions are too spoilery, and considering I hate to be spoiled that causes me a lot of trauma and inner turmoil...
I'll have to wait until November.

Franco Urru's cover for ANGEL:AFTER THE FALL was gorgeous. I liked it immensely.

Most of the questions I have are spoilery, too so I'll refrain but I was wondering if each issue is ging to be a stand alone and/or if the series will have an arc, like "Angel" did?

(That was me refraining from asking anything else. I don't care much for Queen).

My question - the 'First Night' issue - which of course wont debut for months - Will it be all characters we know, or also new ones...and also has an artist been chosen for it yet?

And another on behalf of DeborahMM on the IDW boards (who doesnt have a myspace a/c:))

"Are the one-off character issues going to tie into the main story or be completely separate?"

Does Betta George appearing make Spike: Asylum and Spike: Shadow Puppets officially canon? Or is it just going to be left ambiguous?

Can we look forward to any former cast / recurring character appearances, (disregard this if it's too spoilery) Cordelia or maybe Gwen?

While I realize that IDW publishing stated that all Angel/Spike books released prior to Angel After the Fall take place in a vague continuity sense of before or sometime after the Series Finale of the show, but since you are the writer, where would you place 'Shadow Puppets'? During Season Five or afterwards?

Also, in terms of chronology... Does this series pick up immediately after the TV series finale, or has there been a three year gap as if it were the season premiere in the Fall tv schedule, or is it similar to Buffy Season Eight, which took place a year and a half after Season Seven ended.

How does the process between you and Joss work? Does he give you an outline of what he envisioned, and you embelished, or did he give you free reign to write whatever direction you want to take the characters in?

Also, please please please use Stephen Mooney at some point, maybe for the Standalone issues, his covers for Auld Lang Syne mini-series, and his interiors for the Angel Masks one-shot were outstanding!

1)If you could use one Buffy character in an issue or issues of After The Fall that are being used over in season 8 by Dark Horse, who would it be?Can be a main character like Buffy,Xander,Willow,Giles and Dawn or a reoccuring like Oz,Faith and Amy.

2)Do you have to be kept up to date by Joss on what is happening in Buffy season 8 so things in After The Fall match continuity or don't conflict with each other?

3)With the recent news of Ripper happening next year, and Anthony Stewart Head saying either or both David Boreanaz and Sarah Michelle Gellar could cameo,is there room in After The Fall to adapt the story or make room if something Angel related pop into the Giles movie whether it's mention of events relating to L.A. or an Angel character, whomever it may be,appearing in the film in some fashion?

4)What has been the hardest aspect about doing Angel:After The Fall for you?

Bryan,

I make frequent trips to Meltdown Comics and have seen you in there quite a few times. I've got two questions for ya:

1. A while back a read an interview where Joss was asked what happened in his mind after the close of the final Angel ep. Joss, jokingly, answered that Angel lost an arm, Spike shanshued, Gunn died and Xander lost another eye. I realize it borders on spoilerly, but can you give us a vague answer to whether these events were discussed, seriously or not, at any point?

2. How creeped out would you be if you were approached by a demon wearing the body of a comic geek in his twenties to praise you for your work? How about if he asked for your first born?

Thanks, man! Can't wait for "After the Fall".

Sincerely,
A demon wearing the body of a comic geek in his twenties

Franco Urru's cover is indeed epic and glorious. However, Angel seems to have come through the big fight fairly unscathed - maybe a bit of a bloodstain on the shirt - did he actually do much of the fightin'???

Hi Brian!

How did Beta George come to be canonized, and how in depth is Joss' involvement? Did he just tell you what he wanted and that was that, or did he help write dialog and such as well?

Thanks and, kudos on the Queen reference. They're the greatest band in the land.

1. I know you probably can't say whether he appears or not, but does Connor factor in/get mentioned at all in After the Fall?

2. Holland Manners cameo! Whaddaya say?

3. Can you speak at all to the theme of After the Fall? One of the things I loved about each season of Angel was how focused they were in the themes they tackled. The 5th season's themes (the folly of trying to subvert evil from the inside and the need to continue the good fight even against impossible odds simply because it's the right thing to do) were particular faves of mine.

Brian, sorry for the y, "in terms of a plan" is a quote from the last Episode of Angel

SPIKE
In terms of a plan?

ANGEL
We fight.

SPIKE
Bit more specific.

ANGEL
(steps forward)
Well, personally, I kind of want to slay the dragon.
(the demon horde attacks)
Let's go to work.
(swings his sword)
