One of my pet peeves are the people who walk around with the "Black Pride" or "Brown Pride" T-shirts. It's OK for them to wear that sort of thing, but I'm labeled as a "racist" if I wear a "White Pride" T-shirt. Last time I checked, that's called a double standard. What the fuck?
What ever happened to Martin Luther King's ideal of people being judged "not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character" ?
Come on, really, now. Just how much control did you have at birth over the color of your skin? Last time I checked, you don't have any control over that, and short of expensive treatments a la Michael Jackson, most people are pretty much stuck with what they're born with. It's not like you choose (or can choose) to be born into one racial group or another.
What I'm proposing here is to kick the pride up a notch where the inclusiveness is concerned -- this way, no one gets left out.
Let's call it "respiratory pride." That's right -- take pride in the fact that you suck in oxygen 15 to 17 times a minute.
We can even have a Million Breathers March on the Mall in Washington DC.
Who's up for a March?
