The Comedy Store on Sunset, a dark palace for some of the funniest comedians alive. The best thing about this historic landmark in Hollywood California is its as alive as they come. Shit happens there that no other comedy club could ever capture. Im lucky enough to spend a lot of my time there, and very often I try to archive its stories. I was lucky enough to witness something that has been building up within the walls of the Comedy Store for sometime. Actually it's something that I hear at every comedy club, but never in as much detail. Within the tight comic family one thing is very well known, with every comedian having their own story. Carlos Mencia steals fellow comedians jokes, re-writes them as his own, and makes money doing so.

Shitloads of money.

Comedian Joe Rogan has always been a huge fighter of joke thieves. Mostly because a high percentage of comedians either don't have the ability to fight for themselves, don't know its happening or they just don't care.

So in the past I have taken a few jabs at Carlos, using the internet and camera. But what I filmed Saturday might just be the video to open people's eyes to one of the biggest comedy frauds of all time. Joe Rogan got off stage, and an angry Carlos Mencia grabbed the microphone from the next comic and asked for Joe to come back for a comedy battle with the perfect outcome.

Fucking amazing.  I love rogan, and it is great to see some indisputable evidence to back him up on this.  Great job on getting this video out in the open so we have somewhere to send people who think Rogan is bashing Mencia out of jealousy.

I miss The Store. It's the only place on earth you can hear the absolute truth and the the most amazing lies all from the same person.

I like that Ned has balls on stage but stays on the stool. It's like a dog showing his ass as a sign of weakness. You can tell he's intimidated by Joe physically but he's more intimidated by the truth.

When the oscars come around comics don't want to perform because they know their shit will be stolen. I didn't believe it could happen then I saw Gary Shandling do one of my bits on the oscars. He didn't steal it but one of his 13 writers did. I don't have much clean material so when it's stolen I feel raped.

Dude, that is completely brilliant on so many different levels. I've been performing stand-up for 25 years, so of course I've seen multitudinous incidents of stealing jokes. I've heard stories of Ollie Joe Prater doing Brian Regan's joke right in front of him, and of Brian mustering up the stones to confront Ollie, only to have Ollie tell him, "I know it's your joke, I do it better."

What is more fascinating to me is watching Carlos' meltdown. The production of the video itself is also amazing. This made my day. Thanks for the effort.

Joe's point is well taken--joke theft usually goes uncontested because comics are afraid of confrontation or of losing favor with someone who could possibly help their career. Thieves do us all more damage than they could ever do to help us, and it's an original comic's duty to call less-than-original comics on it when jokes migrate from one guy's act to another.

Audiences will stop coming to see live comedy if they hear the same five jokes every time they come to a show and the audience has the (reasonable) expectation that the jokes a comedian tells are jokes he (or she) wrote. It's simply plagiarism, and has the detestable effect of making the hardworking comic look unoriginal WITH THEIR OWN MATERIAL. Especially acts (like myself) who write "saves" and original heckler lines. I've had to drop foolproof jokes that were lifted in order to protect the REST of my "saves" from appearing unoriginal, or “stock”. In truth, there is NO SUCH THING as a "stock line". There are TWO kinds of jokes: Jokes you WROTE (before anyone else did) and STOLEN jokes. Period.

More people need to stand up to thieves like Joe (and I) do.

Wow!  Thank you so much to Joe Rogan and the people who captured this moment.  I hope it will enlighten the many people who blindly follow Carlos.  He is not the real deal.  Stand-Up Comedy is still relatively young as an art form and it saddens me to see some audiences laugh at stolen jokes from brilliant comics of the past.  Very recently I saw a young comic do a Richard Pryor joke in front of a young crowd and they laughed it up like this guy was a genius.  If you love comedy, know comedy.  Thank you again so much for spreading this truth!!

We should build a "super-fence" ((let's just call it a wall, ok?)) between all the real, hard working comics and the hack thieves out there. This would of course help to at least cut down on the stealing and or re-writing of well written material. I vote Joe Rogan as new president of the newly formed "Hack Border Patrol".

Well, when you are as physically prepared for a fight as Mr. Rogan is, it's easy to tell the truth to somebodies face.  What's Ned gonna do? Kick his ass?  I mean, George Lopez is like 60, and he kicked Mencia's ass.

Dane Crook is a true fraud, as well.

In life there are only a few things that can be held as definitively true. The sky is blue. The sun will come up tomorrow. Carlos Mencia is a joke thief. I started doing stand-up late in life at the age of 33. I hadn't been doing stand up  more than 3 months and I would stumble into the Carlos/Denis Leary/WayansBros joke theft stories. I'm sure some were fabricated and it seemed a lot of them had a lot of truth to them. At the end of the day one thing is true. No matter the size of the lie, it will always be revealed. There is a reason for the cliche', "The truth will set you free."

WOW, that is rediculous! I have heard before about carlos stealing jokes but that video pretty much proves it right there. I just removed carlos from my "friends" list and talked shit on his page before I removed him. What a dirtbag worthless fuckhole.

Props to you Joe for standing up for all of the other comedians who work hard for thier material!!

Carlos Mencia never said he was mexican, he's from honduras. And as for the whole joke stealing, who cares. If you are a better preformer then you're a better preformer. And i hate to say this but intellectual property aside, in comedy its about the delivery not the joke. It's not like carlos does kitchze. He delivers in a unique way and thats what people identify with, not necessarily the joke itself'

There's nothing unique about acting like you are retarded, me and my friends used to do that retard voice all the time, albeit it was when we were high.   I saw something on his show that I knew was a rip-off, he's a jack ass.  His delivery isn't that great.  He's just exuberant and he adds to it that fucking deh deh deh thing...and all of a sudden it's magic.  I don't believe it.   "Intellectual property aside"..what are you, a fucking lawyer?  This isn't legal, it's humor for all the lay people (that means non-professional, see I know big words too) out there.

Used to be a big fan of Ned, but after seeing this it really opened my eyes.  I lost whatever respect I had left of Mencia.  Rogan has really put himself in a good position.  It may not look like it now, but it will certainly pay off.  Good video, thanks for posting.
