R I P Tippy: You will be missed.

There are a great deal of things you take for granted in life. Typing "t" "g" and "b", picking your nose, and bra fastening are a few. Oh and don't forget operating your window button and shaving your right arm pit. Along with the loss of my good friend Tippy, through my own carelessness, came the loss of these everyday pleasures.

Damn you !

I decided Saturday, after a long trip to Atlanta, to make a delicious BLT. I came to the L of my sandwich and needed assistance opening the lettuce bag. We have all done the method of stabbing the bag at the top and sliding the knife down to the end creating a nice hole for lettuce and other tasty treats to fall from.

I picked up the first thing I saw which was a large japanese butcher knife that my mom got for Christmas. It was one of those crazy ones that can cut through steel. I used all my might and cut the bag open. Sadly, Tippy got in the way. It was quick and painless. I looked on the knife and said "Tippy, what are you doing over there?!"

I quickly said bye to Tippy and my dad drove me to the emergency room and also took the opportunity to lecture me in safe knife play. Since the cut was complete there was nothing to stitch so the nurses just packed it with gel foam and wrapped it.

It was hard for  my finger to know that he could
only be the mummy in the school play.

The good news is that there was no muscle damage so my finger tip will grow back! (the human body is amazing!) It will take a year but I know Tippy's and I's reunion will be great.

I miss you Tippy!!

Hahahaha,

You are so cute. I'm sorry to hear of your flesh wound. I say about 50 prayers a day for you and Tippy...Someimtes I find myself crying as I pray...on my knees...fists clenched. But I am glad that there is hope and Tippy will make his come back with time. But until then-I hope that you will be able to cope...If you need more prayer, emotional support, encouragement-I am here. Blessings to you and your household.

Corinn,

Sorry to see and hear about T.I. (tippy's thug alias) but i wanted to tell you that my cousin who played basketball also lost a few of his tippys cause he grabbed onto a jet ski rope that lacked the triangle part meant for holding. the best thing he could think of was wrapping the rope around his little friends. well like all friends, when you tie them up with rope, they leave, but his grew back as well and maybe now T.I. can meet cousin Roland's Tipsters in finger tip heaven where they reside along with all sorts of uneaten chicken fingers and pig knuckles. Cheer up, speedy recovery to ya!!!!

Well I am glad tippy has company but your cousins story makes me feel like a really big baby because losing fingers on the open sea is way worse than an idiot with a kitchen knife.

What's the prognosis for the fingernail?  I sliced the tip off a toe 20 years ago and the nail never recovered.

Oh, how horrific! I am sorry for your toe. Luckily I lost parrallel to the nail. If I lost a nail I could never go out in public again! I have a reputation to maintain here. Don't want to branded as weird-no-nail-finger-girl.

I was so sorry to hear about Tippy.  Surely there is some kinda crime spree you can go on with your one fingerprint being lost.  On the upside, at least it wasn't Ringy that was gone, bc then what's a girl to do?  Not being able to wear a ring would just be unacceptable.  It's good that we can keep this in perspective.  Tippy is only a year away.  Take the time to bond with the other 9 little Tippy's that may have been crying out for your attention this whole time.  They say you never what you have until it's gone.  Celebrate the 9 Tippies remaning....and keep the happy thoughts of the Tippy gone close to your heart.

Don't tell the other nine but they were really boring at the last cocktail party, I had to tell the pinky finger to stop telling that priest, rabi and nun joke like 5 times. Tippy always made them laugh, he was a classy guy...

If it's any consolation, I had a similar experience a couple of years ago at Thanksgiving. I was foolishly attempting to cut up a raw sweet potato (which is like trying to cut through a brick with a butter knife) when the knife slipped and nearly took off the tip of my left ring finger. I didn't seek medical help (other than my husband, who is an experienced giver of first aid) but I didn't lose my fingertip. It now sports a faint, semi-circular scar and there is just a little numbness, but the color is good and function is unimpaired. I hope you experience a quick and complete recovery.

Thanks susan! I appreciate the voice of reason. And bonus having a husband who could bandage you up like a knight in shining armor. Where do you find one of those?
