Hello MySpace!

Okay, so I'm sitting in my trailer between set-ups and I am praying for a surge of inspiration to make my first blogging experience a positive one.

I definitely did not make it onto the debate team in high school so I'm feeling extremely insecure about communicating publicly for the first time via the blogosphere (how about that word for a novice?). I'm still getting the lingo down.  I have been "internet challenged" long enough and am thrilled to join the tech revolution!  Plus, I only have four friends and am in dire need of more.  Just kidding, I have six.

Anyway, not only do I feel cooler being an official blogger, but I'm also realizing that this is a perfect place to  share some projects that I'm working on that I'm really excited about.  I'm trying on the producer cap with my friend, Michelle, with our production company Iron Ocean Films.  We made a thirty minute short last year, called Hole in the Paper Sky about a man's experience after meeting a dog that changes his life.  I think it's a really evocative, beautiful film, and it has won an award at all four festivals where it has screened.  I'll put up a trailer as soon as I can figure out how to do that:)  I hope that animal lovers will be moved by this film as well because it has an animal rights element to it, which I'm a huge advocate for.  I'm actually sitting here with my dog, Tina.  She's not really into blogging.

We also have a feature in development with United Artists, called Die A Little based on a book by Meagan Abbott.  It's a noir set in Hollywood during the glamorous 1950's.  I loved the book and I think it has major cinematic potential, but I'm getting a first hand look at how difficult development is.  Hopefully, I won't be too old by the time we shoot this thing so I can play the main character.  Fingers crossed.

Also, considering the state of the world right now, I've been discovering some really amazing non profit organizations that are giving back to the planet and the people in wonderful and innovative ways.  I'm going to try to highlight one that I'm really interested in every month.  To find out more information on how to donate, check out mtdn.com.  MTDN is the business that my family created to provide support for non profits.

Okay, that's it for now.  I'm headed back to set.  Hopefully this was a successful first try and I'll catch ya on the flip side!!

I just wanted to say that I was an extra on the film Jessica is making now and she was very nice to all of us and the whole crew was too. It was one of the longest days of my life but it was made easier by having nice people around. I've got nothing but good things to say about the experience! Go see NAILED next year!!!

You and Tina should come help us protest! Here in South Carolina, they are trying to pass a law banning certain breeds, ie pit bulls, rottweilers, etc. As a pit owner, you know how unfair the bias against them is.

The petition is at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/ban-all-deeds-on-pitbulls?page=1

Ok so your blog is cool, just one question. Is your blogging going to be about work or are you gonna add anything slightly personal. I'm not talking intimate details of your life, I actually have my own life. Just something like "funny thing happened today" or stuff like that.

This was an entirely successful first try for a blog, Jessica! Trust me, I've been in the, as you put it, blogosphere for years and let me tell you- oh man you could have done far worse.

I hope you'll be updating this regularly. It's not so bad once you get into the swing of things.

"Die A Little" sounds awesome. I'm all about anything 50's related so it should be exciting if it makes it.

Best of luck with your blogging, movies and convincing Tina that blogging is good!

That was a good first blog in my opinion. I wouldn't worry too much about the "friend count" thing if I was you though. You wrote this on 6/30/08 now its 7/02/08 and you're already in the thousands. I don't think you have to be concerned with that no more ;)

on the flip side, haha. Well as far as i can tell, the lack of a debate team 'term' is definately going to ruin your ENTIRE blogging career...okay, no, i lied completely haha, it won't affect you in any way because as i'm sure you know, this is to express thoughts, ideas and anything pertaining to a subject originating from you, the author. As long as you can express yourself and not worry about anything else, such as other people and what they see you/view you as. Yes you are a celebrity and a lot of people are going to like what you write simply because its you, don't take that into account. Be true to yourself and your blog and everything else should fall into place. Your first blog got the job done, and as you write more and more, the easier it will get (kinda like essays in school, at first its hard to get it the way you want, but with experience, it will convey thoughts orderly, and in a logical, expressive manner) Keep it up and it will become more comfortable, less stressful, and a heck of a lot more fun, maybe even Tina will begin to like it more and more haha :) from the fellow CO native, and a Regis Jesuit HS grad (yes all boys haha :P) keep up the good work.

Jessica,
I was in the congress floor scenes with you and Jake. I played a congressmen. David Russel let me say 'GO ALice!" haha. I think you're very talented and you + Jake were cool, I learned so much being around you guys and getting to work with you both along with all those fun and awesome people that was in NAILED.

I still cant beleive how hott it gets in Columbia SC and I'm from North Carolina. When I got the call for NAILED to come down i had to make crazy fast arrangements, dropped evthing, got a 98$ greyhound ticket, got on that bus at 5pm on a thursday, rode all night and layed over in the Charlotte greyhound bus station for hours. then finally got to Columbia in the a.m. on Friday, and pretty much went straight to the state house set with my bookbag and suit case. next thing i know i'm acting in a scene with you and jake.

(btw thats the longest i'v been without my guitar EVER!) but it was all very worth it and now i have so many great memories and i felt like Jack Kerouack when I got back home.
god bless and best of luck to you always Jessica Biel,
sincerely Stephen Kay

Hi Jessica,

I know exactly how you felt when typing your first blog entry, which by the way was great. I have a bad habit of writing entries and never posting them. I guess I'm more self-conscious in writing than in real life.

I enjoyed your blog. I am nervous about posting things too. I am a teacher and it seems like everything I do is watched. I'll bet that goes extra for a celeb. You did a good job though by making it personal yet not too personal. I think you have the idea and I'm looking forward to hearing more. Plus, I think it's a great way to get the word out for the animal organizations. Thanks for the add! Pe@ce
