One of the coolest things about being a producer is that you get to see a film come together in bits and pieces, from the first reading of the script all the way down to the final product, and one of the most important parts of that process is the creation of the movie's score.  Bill Purple, the director of "Hole in the Paper Sky," reached out to composer Kerry Muzzey as we began post-production on the film, and Kerry's response was, "A movie about a dog? I'm in!"  The challenge: we were all in L.A. and Kerry was in NYC. I think this is actually one of Bill Purple's favorite stories about making this movie: he and Kerry ha d never met, did all the work by email, sent musical cues back and forth by FTP, and then met in person for the very first time at the film's premiere.   

However, the process wasn't without its difficulties: halfway through the film's score, Kerry lost his own dog to a very aggressive cancer. I think this is one of those situations where life informs art, though, because the score that he created for "Hole in the Paper Sky" was absolutely beautiful. The music is so poignant and moving, and added a whole new layer of emotionality to the film. We're all really proud of the final product, and of the score as a standalone work. I can't wait to see it. I love dog movies, well all kinds of animal movies. I cried like a baby watching Marley. I have 6 dogs and I would just fall over if one got sick or worst yet died. Thanks for the info.

Dear Jessica,<br /><br />Thank you for the very intelligent insights into the background on the making of the film score.  Where there is a will there is a way, isn't there?  And to have that happen to Kerry and hs dog is such a poignant part of the whole.<br /><br />Am very much lookiong forward to the film and listening to the score.  <br /><br />It is good that you are producing and can choose good subjects.  I will pass the word along to my friends and family, in and out of the entertainment world so they can see and hear it also.<br /><br />

..<br />Jessica...Thank you...The soundtrack is soooo very moving..... remembering I also had Great Pal....Blue was his name a Chocalate brown Labrador Retriever.. since puppyhood to 7 yrs old we had fun and silly great times.......in some stupid circumstances I ended up loosing him, couldn't prevent it I was at work.  my father was against having pets, especially dogs(personal reasons) my mother bless her (R.I.P.) would have stop and prevent this from happening.... she Loved Blue..  it took her awhile to get use to Blue...understanding through the years she was the only one that knows....  you probably figure out what happen to Blue ....so... life goes  <br /><br /> would Love to see the movie when it comes out<br /><br />Takecare Godbless

I'm so glad to see that she's giving props to this movie's soundtrack: it's beautiful, poignant music and makes me want to see the movie.  It's one of those great little gems that you stumble over on iTunes that becomes one of the most-listened to things on your ipod.   Can't wait for the film to come out!

I like indy films. I used to hang out with a few Indy Filmmakers...that is...till that night...eww...but it was worthwhile, and I couldn't show my face in public again...I had to move. But yeah.
