Current mood: triumphant
So, I just had my first paid bellydance gig tonight! Jeff from Up, Up and Away Balloons (aka Mr.Clown) hooked me up with someone who was having a birthday party and wanted a bellydancer and he recommended me. I have seen bellygrams before and knew what to do, but never having done this before, I was totally flying blind as far as negotiating my price, etc--but I ended up getting paid way more than I ever thought (but, of course, not more than I was worth *s*). It was out in Winterville--the man was turning 60 years old and totally had no idea. His family and friends were having a big cookout in this cool barn behind their house. Nate just went in and started the music and I danced in and surprised him. I did my veil dance and my drum solo, then got the Birthday Boy up and put a hip scarf on him and showed him the moves. I taught everyone how to Zaghareet and they all encouraged him and took his picture as he tried to shimmy like me. :-) I think he had a memorable birthday and everyone got pictures with me afterwards and got my card. All in all, I got paid to dance for 15 minutes!!! It just is so cool to actually get paid to do something I love doing and bring a little joy to someone's day. Plus, I got a Miller High Life for the road.
Also, Sharon and I danced at Little Kings Thursday for their monthly Hafla. Photos are in my profile--check em out!
