Who Gives Kudos:

Saturday, January 03, 2009
Our new band is called "Classics of Love." The members consist of Jesse Michaels on Guitar and Vocals, Mike Huegenor on guitar, Morgan Herell on bass and Max Feshbach on drums. The three guys besides myself have another band called The Hard Girls. They are from San Jose which is a large city about 60 miles south/east of Berkeley. They have also individually played in other local bands including Pteradon and Shinobu.

I had been doing solo stuff but really wanted to start a band. My hopes weren't too high because in the past I have found it very difficult to find people to play with who had good instincts, who weren't fucked up in some way, and who didn't party too much (Common Rider notwithstanding). Mike and Skylar from Asian Man records suggested I try jamming with these "Hard Girls" dudes for the sake of recording a 7". To make the story short, it worked out. I feel very fortunate to have found such compatible people to work with.

Our sound is basically high energy mid-tempo rock/ punk. We are experimenting with adding a little trashy reggae but if we do it will probably just be for a song or two rather than being a staple. We like The Who, The Clash, Bob Mould, Husker Du, The Hold Steady, Rites of Spring, Nation of Ulysses, Fugazi, The Wipers, Guided by Voices, The Kinks, and a lot of other stuff but don't really sound like any of those bands exactly.

Plans:
Four show L.A. mini-tour in February and regular bay area dates starting in February. (details coming soon).
We will be recording an EP for Asian Man this month.
Longer tour later this year at some point (undetermined).
Booking: we are working on getting a booking agent.

As always, thanks to everybody for the support and we are all excited about playing some rock & roll for our old and new friends this year.

Awesome. Can't wait to hear it. Why the Common Rider title for a name if you don't mind me asking? Your description of the music sounds a bit different. Looking forward to the EP.

Oh and one more request, at the risk of sounding needy: PLEASE make sure Asian Man or somebody presses the EP on vinyl! It still haunts me that the Common Rider/AAA split is CD-only!

I'm glad to hear all of this. Based on the bands listed, this should be a pretty great musical escapade. Hope to see you on the east coast.
(Show CT some love!)

Thanks for the comments. The name started as a Common Rider song but this band isn't connected to that exactly. The idea for using it as our band name came from our drummer.
The EP will be both vinyl and Cd.
