Current mood: enthralled
Hi everyone.
We’ve had another amazing week. I feel like the luckiest person alive. It seems every couple of days something else amazing happens.
We’re currently doing production rehearsals in London, and im hiding away from Pete’s drum soundcheck in a little portacabin! Six months ago, rehearsals meant the three of us in a little smelly practice studio. This rehearsal has over 15 people involved in a massive film studio, as we try out the new PA, lights, and new instruments. We’ve put together what I hope is an amazing live show... I’m so excited about the tour. I feel like a kid on xmas eve.
We only arrived back from Texas on Monday, where we had played three shows at the SXSW festival. It’s really hard to describe SXSW. It combines the craziness of glastonbury... but with the guarantee of the texas sun... 90 degrees some days!. 1500 bands in 150 venues in less than a mile radius. Every bar, restaurant and club has a band playing from midday til the morning. I was really pleased with our own shows... my only regret was that we didnt get much chance to see many other bands. We kept getting taken back to the hotel by our tour manager, who (wisely) feared we would wonder off into some sort of beer and music fueled oblivion... and miss our gigs. Of the bands we did see, we really loved the shout out louds, Cathy Davies and the Dykeenies.
Finally thank you to everyone who voted for us at the capital radio awards! We won... I was properly shocked. It was bizarre enough being a sat at table next to the hoosiers, the feeling, mika and girls aloud... but when they announced us as winners I really didn’t take it in. I just sat there for 30 seconds wondering who was this band called Scouting for Girls! I actually thought they told you beforehand if you were going to win something! They don’t. We made a remarkably crumby speech, i hugged Johnny Vaughan.... Pete went in for an even bigger hug and a kiss with Denise Van outen!!! the sly dog..
Anyway, Greg’s started bassing, which is my alarm call for soundcheck. See you on the tour.. its going to be awesome!
Roy
PS. Hello to everyone in Japan. We’ve heard that our first single She’s so Lovely is doing really well on radio... Thank you and arigato!... I’ve been trying to learn Japanese for when we come back after the UK tour. see you then.
