Humeur actuelle : reconnaissant
my dear spacers

i've not done this sort of thing before so go gentle with me. i should hate to disappoint...god forbid!...not that old chestnut. here goes....

it's a foggy gray day in london town but my little girl is playing happily next to me like a chip off the bluest sun filled sky and here i am saying hello and thanking you all for your "posts" and thoughts and kind words and support. i am sorry it has taken me so long to get round to actually looking at my myspace but i intend to make it my own in the following weeks or months so i can honestly call it..... my.....

i had a baby girl and she is a dream come true.

i hope you like the bert yansch record? pretty beautiful i reckon. we are playing a couple of gigs together this summer...what else??

ummm....i have a few ideas to get busy with one of these days..seems like taking my time might be a luxury i owe the little face looking up at me for the time being though...

i like the what songs should go on the player watsit game, that was errol my new managers idea, i think it was his way of trying to get me interested in looking and it worked..bingo!! it's going to be a quite a laugh to be able to speak directly without being edited and also somewhat of a rubbish idea as god knows the platitudes that will come flobbing out!

lots and lots of the best of love imaginable for all of us...

Congrats on your little girl, Beth! I know from experience that she is everything to you as I have my own little girl, Elizabeth (named after you??? Who's to say?:) ). She was born around your own birthday if I am not mistaken.

Anymawhos, I can't tell you what your music means to me. Your music has shaped my dreams and enhanced my life for over a decade now...I was lucky enough to see Trailer Park in a Tower Records store in San Diego and I was drawn in by the cover. Needless to say to anyone who has ever heard you, I was hooked. I have been fortunate enough to see you live twice, once in Washington, DC at the 930 club for the Daybreaker tour and once in San Diego at the House of Blues for the Comfort tour. I hope that I can see you again someday for the simple fact that you ROCK live! 'Nough said!

I believe that "Feel to Believe" is your best recorded song...you can actually feel the power, angst and emotion of the song, even though it is recorded. That is something you really cannot "get" from most songs, no matter who is singing them. I find myself singing or whistling that song all day. My current goal is to learn to play "Feel to Believe" on my guitar (which you have to sign one day!!!) and then sing my not-so-great version of it to my daughter.

Anyways, thank you for your time, your love and your music...everyone of us appreciates all that you are and do!

Adam

It's great that she's 18, and I love her as she is, but sometimes I feel wistful about the tiny person I stuck inside my jumper when she got cold. Enjoy all of it, none of it lasts long, good or bad (and sometimes they can be really horrid - cute but horrid).

Love your work, (listening to Blood Red River as I type) though I'm having difficulty trying to reconcile the thought of Bert Jansch moving from Pete Doherty to you, but hey, whatever works.

Best wishes

Dear Beth,

How nice to get your news & thoughts! I remember how it feels to be a blog virgin ... somewhat scary at first, but then deeply satisfying once you realise the world isn't going to come down on you like a ton of bricks just for being yourself & saying whatever springs to mind!

As for motherhood ... it was pretty clear from your performances last year that it was going to suit you big time. (You were definitely singing for two during the pregnancy!) I am sure your devoted fans understand perfectly well that they are going to get a little less of you than they might wish while you devote much of your energy to the little one. (I belong to the traditional African school of child rearing myself, which says basically that you should devote yourself totally to the needs of your child for the first two years. Then you can remove them from your hip, let them run free, and they are set up for life ... secure, strong and independent!)

My own wonderful babies (now in their thirties!) are living proof of the efficacy of this approach :)

A whole lot of love to you & yours,
Ali xoxoxo

Your daughters first days are so important for the both of you to bond. The more days and time you can spend with her and really pay attention to her the healthier and more steady and independent she'll be when she grows up. You are doing the absolute best thing for her and we your fans can wait. You have only one child and she has only one life. Make the most of this time. There is lots of time in your future for music.

Sincere best wishes.

beth, this will get swallowed up or make me sound like a freak i'm sure but here goes. the impact of your music and lyrics still sends emotion trickling out where i thought id dried up long ago. to see you play at the byron bay best fest for the first time last year was extremely special. to see you a few times was just out there.

the most awesome thing about you is how you have maintained your integrity and honesty in every album and performance you've put out. so many artists have so much to learn from you. and now you are a mum, and it actually puts a tear in my eye--i don't do tears.

you've been my head shrink, my mediator and my best friend--and we have never actually met. cheers lady! x

I stumbled upon your music by chance when I was about 16. "She cries your name" was on a compilation album that I received for free at a show. The disc on the whole was a bit weak, except for your song. from that moment on I was hooked I love all of your albums but "comfort of strangers" has left a serious mark on my heart for oh so many reasons... it was my companion in foreign lands, in airports and has now become my soundtrack for my now. Thank you so much for your music, it means so much to me and to so many others.

And more importantly congratulations on the birth of your baby girl. What an amazing new beginning in your life, I wish you and your daughter all the best...

Love you Beth...

Beth,

I have spent many hours sitting and listening to your music.
good times and bad you really have the knack to bring fourth just the right tones, mood, feelings, etc.
just wanted to say thank you for your songs.
thank you for all the help, through rough times.
never met you and might not ever. but I'm a fan and have done my part to show others the wisdom of your music.
enjoy that little one of yours, my 18 month old is my world and she knows daddy is wrapped around her finger. She enjoys listening to the "Comfort of strangers" CD while driving around in daddy’s Jeep.

sorry to babble for so long.
thank you,
M.

I'm always training my voice to emote strong emotions. I have, in the past, used Jewel, Fiona, Stevie, and Imogen when training, to help develop the emotional vocal sounds that are so strong inside of me and teach myself how best to use my vocals to evoke that in my fans. I cover one of your songs...Concrete Sky... (it's actually on the demo in my EPK sonicbids page - linked to myspace). I just wanted to say that you have been one of those I have added the list to help me be able to express strong feelings in my own material. Thank you so much for your emotional songs. You are a great inspiration to me.
