Thursday, October 02, 2008

It was April of this year and we were driving up to New York getting ready for Kaitlyn's first audition.  "America's Got Talent" had contacted us and asked us if Kaitlyn would come audition for their show.  We thought, "Ok, this will be fun.  Kaitlyn will get a chance to sing before some folks who will provide her some great input and then we'll be on our way and get some dinner with family in NYC."  It was on this drive that Kaitlyn piped up from the back seat about what she was hoping to experience out of this process.  She obviously had much bigger dreams -- you gotta love the blue sky imagination of a 4 year old.

You see, Kaitlyn's whole goal when she started "America's Got Talent" was simple.  From the back seat she told me, "Daddy, I just want to see the sparkles come down at the end", meaning, she wanted to see the confetti drop at the finale.  And so, she did what she knows to do about something that's important in one's life -- she prayed to God.  Yes, my 4 year old daughter said a simple prayer to God asking that He please let her see the sparkles come down.

That was back in April of this year.  Last night, the first of October, now six months and many performances later, she stood on the stage at the finale and did indeed get to watch the "sparkles" rain down on her.  This may not be a big deal to some, but to her, this was her goal accomplished... her prayer answered.  I mean, think about the odds of a 4 year old girl participating in a national talent contest with contestants of all ages and all talents and making it onto the finale.  I know statistically that is beyond any odds you'd ever think remotely possible -- except for the simple faith of a child.

I want to encourage you that when you have a need in your life that is bigger than you on your own should be able to accomplish, remember the faith of 4 year old child who knew that God is not too big to care about something so small.  Take your need to Him in prayer and He will meet you there.  He promises that He has an awesome hope and future for you with plans to prosper you and not to harm you and that when you seek His face, you WILL find Him.  The key, though, is that you must seek Him with all your heart (Jeremiah 29:11-13).

If He cared enough to let Kaitlyn see her sparkles come down, don't you think He cares for you?

That really is amazing. I watched the finale last night and I thought it was so sweet seeing Kaitlyn's face at the very end of it. I also thought it was sweet when Neal held her up; he seems like a sweet guy.

Plus, you are absolutely right about the power of prayer; it got my mom a better job, it saved my dad's life when he hardly had a chance, it got my brother a really good job in Chicago and he's very happy. So I, too, encourage everyone to do this. It can really do wonders if you have the faith.

Beautifully put! It seems to me that your little girl was placed on this earth to bring smiles to many. My faith gets me through a lot, and your daughter is more proof that He will guide us. I have a feeling her dreams have only just begun to flower! Please don't stop her visits to the nursing home. I visit one with my seven kids who can't even carry a tune, and see the joy the elderly get from them. You are showing yor daughter what life is all about. Good for you.

Thank you for sharing this with America. You have a very special little girl. I am so glad that Kaitlyn's prayer was answered and she was able to see the sparkles. Everyday, I look forward to read what Kaitlyn is doing now and seeing her beautiful, angelic face just brightens my day. Kaitlyn has helped me to open my heart and let God in again. Because of Little Kaitlyn, I am able to have faith in God and that I will have a job soon. God does work in mysterious ways. Who would have thought that the faith of one Little 4 year old girl would effect so many peoples lives. God not only gave Kaitlyn the gift of song, he also has given her the gift of showing America that anything is possible if you open your heart and allow God to enter. Because of Kaitlyn, I have faith in God again and that my dream of having a job and helping others soon will come true. Thank you for allowing little Kaitlyn to come into our lives. You have a very special little girl and you are wonderful parents.

From the very first time I saw your little daughter on TV I immediately thought of a bible verse, "And a little child shall lead them.
" Isaiah 11:6

Obviously God has some big plans for Kaitlyn, I hope to hear more about her life experiences as time goes on. She is definitely talented and able to control a crowd, no small feat for a small girl. Sharon Osbourne has been known to be quite the Manager in her lifetime, if AGT doesn't help out, I wouldn't be surprised if she puts your family in with the right contacts, maybe she can play Ozzfest.

This is such a beautiful and emotional story. Not only did God answer sweet little Kaitlyn's prayer, He allowed us to see and hear this beautiful angel. She's very lucky to have such wonderful parents who will always guide her on the right path, too. I was so excited to see her last night. She always puts a smile on my face and love in my heart. I'm praying that we will see her again very soon, maybe on "Ellen" or "Regis and Kelly". Please continue with these postings, so we will know how she's doing. God bless Kaitlyn and her family.

When I first heard of Kaitlyn's wish to see the "sparkles" come down...My first thought was...I'ts the little things that count. I know quite the feeling when my youngest wants to go walking in the fall leaves just to hear the "crunch". When one of my sometimes rebelious teenager wants a extra hug at night. When my now 17 year old son needed new souls for his shoes and "made" his own at 5 years old, out of a paper bag, traced from the bottom of his shoe. (something I blogged about). When I look thru all the "school made" art projects and mothers day cards and hand print cards" that my children have made for me throught the years. I know God is one powerful God and I havent always listened to what he is telling me. But after reading all the comments left by Kaitlyns friends. I know it isnt the fame or fortune or the glory or what we aqquire in life...It's the little things that count. I looked up Isaiah 11:6 from my deceased mothers bible that had been stored in a drawer. And I believe now that A little child indeed shall lead them...Thank you for sharing the blessing of Kaitlyn with us. Much love, The Pena Family...

There are no words that can describe the "sparkle" that God has put in you, Kaitlyn! You have touched more lives in your 4 years that I could only hope to touch in a lifetime! You're America's star... and more importantly, our blessing!

I know how hard you have worked to get where you are, and how hard it is to get on stage and sing even when you don't feel like it. You are a true professional, girlie, and it's been an honor to watch you perform on TV! YOU GO GIRL! Keep saying those prayers... that's what it's all about!

I love this message because I can see there are many of us that are believers. Because of this precious little one and her family we are able to share our personal love of God with each other on this message board. That is "special" as Kaitlyn likes to say.

I have read all the messages and will continue to read them as more people respond. It builds my faith and lifts my spirits to know there are loving people in this world.

I hope Kaitlyn will make a video soon and share her sweet spirit in verse and song with us. I would love a cd of her singing as well.

She really has won my heart. Thank you Kaitlyn for bringing such joy into my life. I taped all your performances and watch them over and over. Because every single time you bring a smile to my face and make this dark world so much brighter. It is so refreshing to watch an innocent child capture the hearts of her audience the way you did. The way you handled yourself with such poise, grace and maturity is what we need more of. I really, really hope that we will see you again very soon. I would love it if you went back to "America's got talent" next season. YOU were the only reason I watched it. Whatever you do, I'm sure God will continue to use you to bless others.

Wow, the faith of a 4 year old! She knew where to turn too, and God saw her through to her dreams! It is so true that children can be closer to God than anyone else. They are the innocent, and seem to hold onto faith much stronger than adults. If adults could see the innocence of children and can follow them this world would be a much kinder and richer place.Think about it, kids can show us how to live, they are innocent and because of that they see angels, and can turn to God in a heartbeat for help on anything.

When I was younger I used to beable to turn to God for anything. I could see the answers to prayers in everything. But as an adult it is harder to see answers the way a kid sees them. But now through Kaitlyn it maybe easer to turn to God and see answers through prayer in a whole new light.

I watched Kaitlyn every time she was performing on AGT and she would bring tears to my eyes. There is something about her, that draws people close, and now I know why. It is her faith, innocence, and dreams. She will make it in this world, and she will continue to touch people in so many ways. She has touched me, I now can turn to God more and can look all around for the answers and this will help to rebuild my relationship with God.

Thank-you Kaitlyn! Keep following your dreams and don't let anything or anyone stand in your way! Keep up the faith and keep smiling!!

That's great!!! And you're so right. God is BIG enough to even care about the small things in our lives. I have lived it and seen it. But as of late, I'm finding that I'm not "Trusting" in God like I should because...
1. I have all I need right now (i'm not wealthy...not even close).

2. But I believe that I haven't be challenging myself to believe that God can do the impossible in my life.

I know that He can and He has but I've been living safe in the blessings of yesterday. Last night I watched the movie "Pursuit of Happiness" (featuring Will Smith). Seeing what he went through, not knowing if he would have a place to sleep at night or if he'll even eat. So me, like many in our Nation, have those basic needs met and don't really trust God for them. But what about that building we've been needing, or the missions trip we've been called to do, or the opportunity to try out for AGT and see the "sparkles come down at the end" or better yet, that person across the street that needs a word of hope and needs to know that someone cares. I once read, "If it's something you can do then it's not big enough". God can do ALL things... So, what are we waiting for?
I'm done now! Off to Trust in God for something BIG.

Great Job On AGT.

God Bless!
Tom
