We're breaking up...

from Oscar:
Nakatomi Plaza has entered the process of disbanding. I say "process" because that's exactly what it is. It's nearly impossible to end something overnight that you've been involved with for a decade, but it is in-fact ending, and very soon. I wanted to tell everyone (particularly our friends that do not live in the Northeast and that may be attending the Fest 7 in Gainesville, FL this weekend) to encourage you to come see the band this Sunday at 7:30pm at Durty Nelly's for one of our final performances.

We hope to enter the studio by the end of this year and finally record these songs we've been working on for the last year and a half. We are too proud of them to let them go undocumented. And hopefully not too long afterwards, we will play an undetermined amount of farewell / record release shows centered around the Northeast. These will surely be very special events and we hope you can attend.

A couple months ago I told Al and Lou that I no longer wanted to continue playing in Nakatomi Plaza. After 10 years, 3 full-lengths (and a few singles/EPs/comp tracks), 3 vans, and seemingly countless shows, tours, and recording sessions I had decided it was time for me to move on and explore other music with different people. For all three of us, this was heavy news and we needed time to digest it which is why we delayed the announcement until now.

To Al and Lou, you are two of the most inspiring people I have ever met and I want you to know that our time together in this band means the world to me. Please understand that nothing has gone unnoticed and I appreciate you both encouraging me and believing in me and the music when others would not. The kind of support you two have given me is rare. I'm glad we're ending this where we are and I'm very proud of what we've done.

And I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart that has been there for us over the years. You released our records, you bought our records, you came to our shows and sang along, you housed and fed us on tour, you were our roadie, you recorded us, you played shows and toured with us, you booked us, you used to be in the band, you sat up with us late into the night as we tried to figure it all out and you let us know we weren't alone... I could go on and on but the point is "thanks and we love you."

Finally, do please stay in touch with us; we would love to know what you all are up to and we would love to keep you all informed about each of our individual future undertakings and projects.

Love,
oscar albis rodriguez

from Al:
If you asked me 10 years ago where i wanted to be in 10 years, i'd pretty much answer with my life the way it is now (with a few minor alterations, i mean, i couldn't have predicted exactly what sort of retail job i'd have, and i did want to move to a new city sometimes.) but anyway, i'm really happy with nakatomi and what we've accomplished, and i'm really glad for what it's given back to me, it has been so much more than a musical project. honestly, i didn't get into punk rock to be a rock star. i got into punk rock to make friends and feel the sense of community i always crave, the sense of community, of kinetic positive energy that keeps me sane. it's sometimes a struggle to feel connected and being in nakatomi has put me in the position to meet such wonderful people all over the country, doing such great things. nakatomi plaza became a part of me around month 2 of being involved, and i can feel in it my bones, i breathe it from my lungs. i have never in my whole life stuck with anything as long as this and i will miss it greatly. but it's time to move on. and i am really looking forward to spare time and new projects, some musical, some not.

i want to thank everyone whose kept us in their hearts and minds, everyone whose come out to see us or listened to our music who felt connected. everyone who helped us out even if they didn't really like our music so much (something i love about punks!). man, i just want to thank everyone. roadies, crash pad hosts, bookers, cookers, mechanics, tour buddy bands, people who have told me they like our lyrics, everyone. and of course i want to thank all the other nakatomiites, past, honorary and especially present. and i'd also like to thank my parents, because it really isn't everyone who is so supportive, excited really, psyched even, about their kid being in a money-losing, basement playing punk band with no pressure or lofty expectations of her having "success" with fame or money. they are really the best.

xo

from Lou:
Thank You All it's been amazing being part of an experience with so much passion, that's why it's so hard to say goodbye.
But with endings come new beginnings. I'm so grateful to have met so many awesome people because of Nakatomi!
And hope to meet more. Keep in Touch. Thank you for being there. I don't know what else to say...
More Music, More Shows, More Hugs, Blood, Sweat and Tears!!!
Love,
Lou

Paytrick Is Dangerous

That is very sad to hear one of my favorite bands is coming to an end. I think seeing you all was one of the reasons i got into music localy. I remember you all touring with Marathon and Oscar and Aaron singing the cell phone song in Robin's living room. I remember when you all seemed to come at just the right time and knew how to set the mood just right after one of my best friends Dylan Prott died. You all have done a lot for the city of Louisville and i would like to thank you for the journey that you helped me through with your music. I hope in this final farewell tour you all can make it as far as louisville. You need to see Jamie's new venue, its amazing and stays busy constanly. But again just wanted to say thanks for everything over the past several years of watching you guys. It has been fun seeing you play and hanging around after shows.

Well since I'm a computer all day, I saw this right away.

This makes me really sad to see. We had an incredible time touring with the 3 of you. You are dear friends to us and its sad to hear you are moving on. Of course I'm always excited to hear what comes new. And of course I'm flying home on Sunday afternoon and will miss your set at The Fest.
:(

I think I can speak for all of us and saying you were definitely one of the best bands we toured with and near to our hearts.

Oscar, Al, Lou; we love you and will always remember the great memories we had on the road together.

RIP!!

I so wish I'd seen this before this before now so I could have run down to Gainesville last night. Sad to hear you guys are wrapping it up, but glad you'll at least be laying down the new stuff before doing so.

You guys were by far one of the nicest and easiest bands I ever had the pleasure of dealing with in a booking capacity. even when the money sucked or nobody showed up you were always awesome to see and/or play with.

If any of you are ever coming through north florida with another project, don't hesitate to get in touch. I'll do whatever I can to find you a show and buy you some BBQ tofu sammiches from soul-veg.
