I know from a blog post in September and this DISINFO CHAT petition that some of you are concerned about the disappearance of the chat room from disinfo.com, so I'm wondering how the former chatters feel about using a meebo room which I have created below:

http://www.meebo.com/rooms

You can embed it on your homepage or use it within meebo. Feel free to watch trailers from our latest video releases within the chat room, or post your own videos. If this seems like a good idea for many of you, we will incorporate into the homepage for disinfo.com.

Thanks for your feedback,

Tyler?

the room is terrible, it's a bunch of people who don't even know what disinfo is or care to learn.

I wrote this on the myspace disinfo chatters group forum:

So I visited the meebo disinfo chatroom and I have to admit I'm intensely disapointed. It's not a flipping patch on the old room, the one that I'd grown attached to over a period of 9-and-a-bit years, and whose black and grey facade had even popped up in my dreams once or twice. The meebo disinfo room is a sterile little toy chatrooom, it has no personality, and obviously null individuality. But I guess, everything changes, and that it's futile to try to hold onto the past: I should accept the new room -- even though I've invested so much of my time in helping create the community we're a part of and which clustered around the room. Needs must, it's as good as we're going to get. But does anyone think the new room is the final nail in the coffin of the disinfo community as we knew it, as some have known if for over a decade? Am I just being relentlessley pessimistic, can our community now be renewed? Does anyone care?

I have to say I like it. Sure, it's nothing at all like the old room but the thing that made that room distinctive from all other chatrooms wasn't the java applet or the layout, it was the people that it attracted and the subject matters discussed therein. I started chatting in the old disinfo chatroom back in 1999 and gained a pretty good idea of what the disinfo vibe is. When the room disappeared, there was absolutely no place in the digital realm that housed the type of discourse found in the disinfo chat room, and only now that the meebo room has been created has that level of discourse been found again. It picked up immediately where it left off. The features are different but they're fun and again, it's the personality content that will make this room. Kudos to your efforts.
