My lovely city after a long long wait got a spanking new airport! and I love it!!
I know I am going to get quite a bit of grief for this but I actually do like the new airport and I am happy we did move there. It was about time we did!
Let me explain .. The "old" airport that Bangalore had was not built to be what it eventually became! like the lovely city itself, the airport was stretched way beyond its capacity and was just about struggling to get by everyday!
The new airport is much much better, bigger and most importantly modular. We are currently being served by only ONE terminals with more being built. But should you wait till everything is in place before you move in? In this case atleast, ABSOLUTELY NOT!
The biggest myth about the new airport is that it takes you half your lifetime to get there and that is far from the truth. Infact, from the day it opened, I have taken over 5 flights from the new airport, both domestic and International, and I have managed to get there on time everytime! Once you get past the mess of the city's traffic, it takes you a good half an hour from Mekhri Circle on a good day and about 45 minutes on a bad day.
Every big airport in the world is outside the city limit and most recently I was departing from Heathrow's (the dreaded!) Terminal 5 in London and with the lovely underground tube, it took me 45 minutes to get there from Central London.
There are a lot of things wrong with our airport, seating space, loos and so on, and quite a few of those, the traffic, the rising costs etc .. are not things that are wrong with the airport! This is a good start in the right direction and I am happy we got this sorted out finally!
I know I am going to get a lot of you disagreeing .. but lets hear from you and I will be happy to discuss :)
