I'm a fan of Dunkin Donut's rebranding efforts, "American Runs on Dunkin." They've done a great job getting to the point that Dunkin Donuts is not about donuts ('cause donuts just make you fat anyway), it's about fueling the working (and middle) class. Starbucks doesn't equal coffee; it equals coffee for yuppies. And if you're not a yuppie that's where Dunkin steps in.
Even more so I like the campaign because the songs on all of the commericials are done by They Might Be Giants, which, of course, are my favorite band. So what does a super fan like me do when he finds out that TMBG has a bunch of new songs in commericials? I search on youtube to find them. Well so why the fuck is it so difficult to find them all? Hello Dunkin Donuts, youtube is huge, out your fucking ads on there (and tag them with TMBG, so superfans can find them, cause if any band has super fans it's They Might Be Giants).
Instead of Dunkin being savvy enough to make their ads available i had to search multiple tags in youtube and through google to try to track down the various TMBG-Dunkin ads. The desire to have this stuff on youtube is obvious considering that some people have put a camera to catch the vids, and thes even a parody video of one of the ads.
Fortunately there are fans like me out there so I'll save you the trouble of the half-hour search I went on to track them down.
Doing Things is What I Like to Do
It's clearlt the best ad. It's about how working class people drink Dunkin's coffee to get through the day (although the ad makes it sound exciting, not depressing). There is also a minute long version that is not as good.
One Million Degrees
This one is the most forgettable. Drink cold drinks from Dunkin when it's hot out.
Hello Dunkin! Notice the comment "i had this commercial in my head all day. i had to see if it was on youtube lmao". And that's for the least exciting ad!
Pleather
I had to resort to googlevideo to find this one. This one is great because of it's use of the word pleather. Pleather is great. And I like how pleather doesn't have the stigma of other vegan products of being for yuppies (like iced soy mochas, or whatever). Go pleather.
Some girls on youtube made their own version.
A Ton of Stuff
I only barely found this one (on googlevideo) while I was writing this blog. I'm going to change what I said before, this is my least favorite, mostly cause it has the weakest message.
So all these ads to showcase and what does Dunkin do online? They've put two of the ads on their web site. And they have the long, not as good, version of Doing Things I Like to Do. So you can imagine the meeting where someone said "and we'll create a longer, internet-only version!" and they they forgot to actually do anything to get the vids available. Bah!
So my points are that They Might Be Giants is a great band, America runs on Dunkin, and Dunkin needs to put all their ads on youtube!
Update: Also, Dunkin should have had a page on their site where you can watch them all and vote for your favorite. 'Cause why not.
Update 2: I found two more. Which only proves my point.
Tree
This one is just OK. Not among the best.
Early Fishin'
Fishing is stupid and cruel to animals. And this one is my new least favorite. Come on TMBG, you already showed you can do better than this!
