waking up in nyc this morning 7 years later and it feels like just yesterday this city and our worlds were turned upside down.... never in my lifetime had I ever believed that I would see such horror- the kind that you see in documentaries set in far off places and read about in text books- never in my life had I ever thought that I would wake up and fall asleep afraid- watching things on television that felt like a film- walking through a city that felt like a war zone. there were army vehicles on houston street, barricades dividing neighbourhoods and lines around the block of people waiting to donate blood set in front of a backdrop of smoke filling a space where two of the largest buildings once stood. Two buildings that shaped one of the most famous skylines in this country, or in the world...... Seven years later and I will never forget. I don't really know what to say except to all those we lost we will never forget and never take for granted the sacrifices that you made.

September 11, 2001 was my first day of school in NYC and I had moved there the day before all alone. My partner was still in Indiana and wouldn't be joining me until October. The whole month between Sept. 11 & Oct. 23 felt like an eternity. I was living in Manhattan near Lincoln Center with a friend and no cell phone reception for weeks. I miss NYC today and wish I could be there.

Take Care Sam.

Please everyone also remember the first responders including the FDNY and police officers and search and rescue teams who put themselves in harms way to save lives on that day. They are still in need of medical attention, have high medical bills and need medicines, and they are not being helped by our government. Thousands of them are dying and others only have a few years left even though they are still relatively young.

Here's one website where you can find out about them and help:

couldn't have said it any better sam. wrote a short piece on linds blog, imagine it's buried by now.

we will not forget the loss of innocent lives that day, nor will we forget the ladies and men in our armed forces who lost their lives going after the ones who did it, hopefully they will all be caught and brought to justice.

our hearts and prayers go out to them all.

I will never forget the horrors of 9/11. Due to the time difference between NYC and Europe, it was a peaceful afternoon until everything safe and comforting got shattered by two airplanes, penetrating the twin towers. Having no way of knowing if my father (who was having a meeting on 23rd floor) was alive, was the most horrifying experience.

Let us never forget the day, where the western worlds safety was shattered, and let us remember and be grateful for the people who sacrificed their lives for others, and those left behind.

Emma.

We all felt it that morning. I was watching it on television. After the second plane hit, I went and locked myself in the bathroom. I was so scared. And I was in Texas. I can' t imagine what it was like there in NYC. It must have been so awful to wonder if there were more planes coming. I am sorry you had to go through that. We will never forget. Or forgive.

I will always think of all the firefighters and police officers who so bravely rushed in while everyone else was rushing out. There were so many heroes that day. I hope we never have to lose so many good people so needlessly again.

that was such a scary day! i dont live anywhere near ny but i remember watching ppl on tv and it was just horrifying. you always see that stuff happen in other countries and we never even think it can happen to us! i also think its important to think about how far we've came since that day.

its kind of a difficult day for me because today is also my little boy's first birthday! kinda weird but he was born on sept 11th at 11:11 pm! so have to think that today CANNOT be viewed as a bad day! it is a day of remembrance and a day of thankfulness that we are here today - alive and well!

It was such a sad day in NYC. I lived in the East Village and could smell this foul odor in the air. Obviously it was the smell of burning decay. I remember not understanding what was happening and apparently neither could the new's reporters on NY 1 news. Everyone kept saying it was a small plane that crashed. At no point did anyone think it was Terrorism. Then when the second plane hit it was clear we were under attack. The one thing I have to say that made be proud to be an American and a New Yorker was that in spite of all this chaos New Yorkers United and everyone took care of each-other. It was also Fashion Week . I remember being in Union Square Park and people playing Music and holding a Candle to show that we were all United and No matter what you couldn't brake the spirit of a New Yorker. That was an amazing moment. I will always remember those Towers especially because when I first moved to NYC and would get lost Taking the A, C, E line I knew I would find my way from North or South because of them. They would light up at night and you just knew.

In spite of all this and living through the Fear that was enlisted by Homeland Security ( Yellow Codes, Red Codes, Orange Codes, The horror grabbing headline's of the NY Post) and having to deal with armed Men and Women in Uniform with Guns the size of a 6 yr old, I NEVER WANTED A WAR. When you go through something like this that is the last thing you want. I also knew that Former President Bush was a coward for not showing up Right Away to NYC. Through all the awful laws we had to put up with being New Yorker's Former Mayor Giuliani ( known for having the most ragging racist Police Task Force and putting a cabaret law on Bars in NYC No Dancing) pulled through and got the best PR Makeover .

Anyways that's my rant. Every-time I go to NYC I think about it. Having being a former 9+ New Yorker who now lives in the West Coast and like's it somewhat except for the unexpected Earthquakes it still goes through my mind. Oh and how could we forget the NYC Summer Blackout. That was GOOD TIMES.

It was relayed at the same time in Japan.

It was an early morning in Japan that it happened.

A friend telephoned me to a mobile telephone early in the morning.

"Watch television right now!"I thought that the broadcast was the one scene of the movie seriously.

But it was different. It was true.I was not too over the voice by a shock either.

I pray its soul may rest in peace to victims.

I can’t forget that case.

In 2000 i visited my family who was staying in connecticut, where i bought lots of memorabilia of course. On sept 11 seven years ago is was in the 8th grade, i woke up that morning like everyone else, not knowing what the day had in store, i went to my cupboard and by a strange coinicidence chose to put on my NYC T-shirt with a pic of the twin towers on it....only to find out much later what had happended..

Ditto. today is like no other day in NYC..every year that goes by doesnt' make a difference, walking around in the city on this day there's a different mood in the air, as it should be- all you have to do is look into people's eyes and there's a common understanding- to just keep on moving, but never forgetting.

And still the distractions from the Republicans (Pigs, lipstick, sex-ed for Kindergarten). The state of the country seven years later is in a STATE! Bin Laden was never caught and the occupation rages on costing our country billions everyday. Millions of hardworking Americans don't have healthcare. I just hope people pay them back this November at the polls.

I remember that morning. I was just getting home from my seminary class and my dad called me to tell me to turn on the television. I turned it on just in time to see the second plain hit…and I will never forget the feeling of utter despair that filled my soul. I remember praying that it wasn’t real and, as the realization set in, praying for those who had loved ones in New York. Those people who were watching in horror as they realized their family members were in those buildings. I will never forget that day and I pray no one else does. Only in remembrance can we make a change. Only in making a change will those lives that were lost be not in vain.

I remember that day, i woke up and i turned on the tv and when i saw the news i couldnt believe it. All the people running, crying, the army vehicles, the ambulancies, etc. It was a complete disaster, and the worst was the people who died there. People who woke up to work and never back to their homes again. But i know all those people are in a better place now.

Thanks for share your feelings.

Take care.

I was watching in shock as the camera focused on a whole in one of the towers and smoke was billowing out. Then my heart sank when I watched the second plane hit. I knew immediately what had happened. I did not go to work... I just sat and watched the news all day in a daze. It was very surreal.

I will never forget that feeling. I will never forget those who died.

I use to live in NJ and I went to NYC alot. I only lived there for like a year and a half. when I lived there I was in middle school and everyone in the town went to the same middle school. by 9-11-2001 I had moved to Ohio. But when I heard the news it really shook me to the core. I knew for a fact that some of the people I went to school with there parents worked in the towers. I ofcourse was freaking out and all I wanted to do was be back in New Jersey to comfort my friends. I remeber walking in between the twin towers and just looking up. Shelding my eye from the sun with my hand I had to arch my back just to try to see the top. It was alarming to say the least to see that same street I had walked down so many times in such a black almost like a war zone type state. I was frustrated and fearfull at the same time. I was frustrated at the fact that I could not possible contact any of my friends who lived there cause it was during school hours. I was mad I was in Ohio and not in New Jersey when just a year ago I was. It took me many days but I finally did get in contact with my friends. The stories they told me were haunting, stories of what they were doing at that time. You are vary right, we should never ever forget the ones we lost and the ones who had to go through that horiffic ordeal.
