Current mood:  shocked
I really cannot bite my tongue anymore when it comes to Sarah Palin.

I couldn't be more supportive of a woman in office, but let's face it, it comes down to the person, and their beliefs, male or female.

Is it a sin to be gay? Should it be a sin to be straight? Or to use birth control? Or to have sex before marriage? Or even to have a child out of wedlock?

I find it quite interesting that a woman who now is running to be second in command of the United States, only 4 years ago had aspirations to be a television anchor. Which is probably all she is qualified to be... Also interesting that she got her passport in 2006.. And that she is not fond of environmental protection considering she's FOR drilling for oil in some of our protected land.... Well hey, if she wants to drill for oil, she should DO IT IN HER OWN backyard. This really shows me her complete lack of real preparation to become the second most powerful person in this country.

Hmmmm-All of this gets me going-Fear, Anxiety, Concern, Disappointment, and Stress come into play...

Is our country so divided that the Republicans best hope is a narrow minded, media obsessed homophobe?

I know that the most important thing about this election is that people need to exercise their right to vote, regardless of their choice... I would have liked to have remained impartial, however I am afraid that the "lipstick on a pig" comments will overshadow the issues and the fact that I believe Barack Obama is the best choice, in this election, for president...

Palin's Desire to "save and convert the gays"-really??

According to this Associated Press story, the church of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is hosting a kind of conference devoted to the "conversion of Gays" -- no kidding.

Here's the AP text:

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) ? Gov. Sarah Palin's church is promoting a conference that promises to convert gays into heterosexuals through the power of prayer.

You'll be encouraged by the power of God's love and His desire to transform the lives of those impacted by homosexuality," according to the insert in the bulletin of the Wasilla Bible Church, where Palin has prayed since she was a child.

Palin's conservative Christian views have energized that part of the GOP electorate, which was lukewarm to John McCain's candidacy before he named her as his vice presidential choice. She is staunchly anti-abortion, opposing exceptions for rape and incest, and opposes gay marriage and spousal rights for gay couples.

http://zennie2005.blogspot.com/2008/09/sarah-palins-church-hosts-anti-gay.html

I feel it's necessary for me to clarify that I am not against Sarah Palin as a mother or woman.

Women have come a long way in the fight to have the choice over what we do with our bodies... And its frightening to see that a woman in 2008 would negate all of that.

Oh, and...Hint Hint Pali Pal- Don't pose for anymore tabloid covers, you're not a celebrity, you're running for office to represent our, your, my COUNTRY!

And in the words of Pamela Anderson, "She can suck it"..

Lindsay- "I have faith that this country will be all that it can be with the proper guidance. I really hope that all of you make your decisions based on the facts and what feels right to you in your heart-vote for obama!"

Samantha- "I love this country- however i wasn't born here and don't have the right to vote- so i beg of you all to really do your research and be educated when you cast your vote this coming november.... and if you're in doubt- vote for obama! Mainly because if she gets elected my green card probably won't get renewed!!!"

xoxo

I agree...she got her passport in 2006 - which means she has no life of traveling to other country's - country's that if elected she would have to communicate with. If elected she will run this country in ruin's...

And converting gay's with her church - I wondering where exactly the religious freedom that is country is based on stands in? If american are told that a opinion that the christian church has of homosexuality has to be applied to the whole country? Isn't that like forcing your religion on someone ... I'm a buddhist and nowhere in my religion neither other I've been reading about does it say that homosexuality is a sin - it is something that church leader made up to assure that their member live by what they - the church call a normal life.

I have to agree with Samantha saying that if elected she would change the law and most likely green card holder or immigrants like me that still deal with the green card proccess will have it harder to get permits.

I'm afraid that she'll be elected and ruin this country and so many people life's.... Thanks lindsey/Samatha for posting these blogs - I'm not a citizen, can't vote but you sure reach out to young voters.

Say what you want about the GOP. However, I do know one thing for sure. SARAH PALIN has MORE EXPERIENCE than the blatantly and disdainfully proud Obama who is the infanticide, voter fraud, race card, and redistributionist candidate of the Scam-ocratic Party.

Vote Republican. Vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin.

I oppose any attempts at voter fraud.

ACCORN has been proven guilty of systematic voter fraud in numerous states.

Obama was a lawyer and trainor for ACCORN.

Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher asked Obama a question. When Obama admitted his intention to spread the wealth around, Obama embarrassed himself. Now the LIBERAL ATTACK MEDIA is harrassing a PRIVATE CITIZEN. These are tactics used in the old Soviet Union.

Therefore, I am voting for John McCain and Sarah Palin.

VOTE REPUBLICAN. VOTE FOR JOHN McCAIN AND SARAH PALIN.

I've spent the last 3 months in the states and i LOVE the american people! i hate this Palin women though.

I don't think you have any reason to be afraid of her however. It's preety clear she's been chosen for the VP just as a smart comercial move. Even if Mccain's gonna win (wich I seriously doubt, and really hope not...), her job's gonna be pretty much like right now, to divert the public view from goverment mistakes and screwups and just to make us all think and talk about her stupid kids or whatever. don't you see? she's just a Barbie. She's just for the show, for attention. She has NO, and never will have, true power.

Sarah Palin is a joke.

You two are brilliant!! I'm in fear too. It's so sad that Palin is trying to represent Christianity with all this non sense. I wish that some people would never come out and say that they are Christians because they just ruin it for everyone else. I am a Christian and I would never think/say the things she has. Who is she to think she can judge other people?? For me being a Christian means loving people, not judging them. It's such a shame that she's even labeled herself being a Christian. So sad. I love you two and wish all the best. You two have great heads on your shoulders <3.

This election is not obama against palin. I am voting for McCain. Sides do you really think Palin can change the gays, or take away green cards. No of coarse not, How many presidents have been in the white house? Has anything ever changed no, because there is more people on the jury than just the judge(president). Jury is the deciding factor, not the judge and do you honestly think the judge(president) will ever go against the jury.
I think not! Vote McCain, Obama has ideas but no game plan!

I think you need to understand that when McCain kicks it, Palin will be the next for the throne.

Do you want to regress back to the 18th century? Palin HATES women!

Anyone that thinks that you should not really take a long hard look at the VP running mate should not vote in the election. THe VP has every chance to be the President at any given moment. McCain is NOT a spring chicken and he certainly is not the best of health, having cancer more times than you can count on your one hand. Palin herself said she is only a heartbeat away from being the President of the United States. Yes, McCains heartbeat no doubt.

But she can see Russia from her office window.......

That said, go ahead, all of you, vote for McCain. It wont be ANY DIFFERENT than having Bush in office.

You made a point, Samantha! This is a horrible development and steps that have been taken to improve the "situation of homosexuals" should not be steps backards. It's a long way to equality, but even hzere in Germany people are beginning to see the light. It's really good that you blog about it the way you do. Couldn't agree more. If Sarah Palin gets elected into VP position, I can foresee damaging results of equal impact to the Bush administration. Then in 4, 8, 20 years down the road, women will have to fight again for their chance. Sarah Palin will create too many skeptics that would say, "Remember when a woman was in the white house? That was a wreck. Let's not make that mistake again." She would take away opportunity from women that really could be President.

I love this country too much to see that nightmare of a woman, Sarah Palin, be in any position of power in Washington. Vote Obama.
Believe in the change!

Such backward thinking, this!

I am not Republican, so I won't be voting for McCain. But, for me Obama lacks specificity, and he too, is a bit "iffy" re: his thoughts about we Gays and our RIGHT to marry, Samantha. He's half Black / half White yet his views on Gay STILL are mired in those of many Black (religious!) communities.

I don't trust him.

I don't trust his lack of experience, either.

I won't be voting for Nader, because the latter's a spoiler, thru' and thru'.

I rather liked Hilary, but, she's not even in the running.

I am uncertain as to what to do, now. I may abstain from voting altogether.

And, lastly:

Just because you weren't born here, Samantha, doesn't mean you cannot EARN your right to vote here. Become a US citizen.
Many foreigners DO! ;)

Actually, I'm more offended that you would consider not voting. It is like saying we shouldn't vote for an independent third party because our vote won't count. It is thinking like this that leaves us stuck with the current broken two party choices. One should always vote... it is the last voice we have.

Amen! People need to look beyond that fact that she is a woman and remember her values will represent this country if elected. It is not her face or gender we are putting in office, it is her beliefs. I personally don't think you can "pray away the gay" in anyone. Millions of people died to protect the civil right to be who we are in this country. Why take 100 steps backwards? Do your research. She's not just a pretty face nor is Mccain! When you vote remember it's for 4 or 8 years! Think about that...

I could not agree more with you too. As an expat living in USA, I probably have a different view of many things, and the Europeans seem to be more open-minded about womens rights - because thats what it comes down to when birth control and pregnancy is discussed. I find it very disturbing that the potential vice president has views like those, and hope in my heart that America is ready for someone who is wants change, instead of a man who is leading the most misleading and untrue campaign in USA's history.

Let's all hope USA is ready for Obama.

I already sort of signed a release for comedy central, but who cares! :D
Not quick enough comedy central!
That stupid Mccain animation's never going to get on SNL.

You have just as much right to as anyone else. This election will affect the world, not just this country. The thought that McCain/Palin could be in the White House is sickening to me for many reasons. Obama isn't 100% for gay rights either since he's for civil unions but not gay marriage. It's definitely settling for less than we deserve but still a better option than McCain.
Don't the candidates have more important things to address than who we love and what we do with our bodies?

I completely agree! There is something very off about this lady.

Personally, I think that any one who wants to drill off shores of the US is an idiot. Look at the past hurricane seasons, and tell me how smart that would be. Ike caused our oil prices to rise again. Imagine if we had more drilling stations out there.

The gay thing is just stupid. You would think that with all the sh*t going on in the world that homosexuality, would be the last thing people focus on. She seems like just another person with too much time on her hands.

I dont know what people see in her, but what I see is the reason that most of the world hates our government. Alot of people in western-Europe can see right through her. I dont know whats wrong with America.

I really love that we got to hear from both of you on this. This is an important issue that needs immediate attention. It's so irritating when people, especially people in office, try to take away our God given right to make our own decisions in this life. And it is a right given to us by God. So what gives one person the right to choose how everyone is supposed to live, when God wants us to choose for ourselves? I thought the whole point of living in a “free” country was to avoid things like this.
Why should we elect someone to be the second most powerful person in this country of ours, when they are trying to deny us the very freedoms upon which our country was founded?
Love to you both.
