This bill is reintroduced just as the advocacy group, Generation Rescue, has released the results of a survey strongly suggesting that autism and ADHD are associated with vaccination. For more information go to Generation Rescue's web site.
A-CHAMP views the introduction of H.R. 2832 and the release of Generation Rescue's survey as timely in light of the refusal of the CDC to provide meaningful access to the Vaccine Safety Datalink ("VSD"), a large government vaccine database that could reveal answers to the question of whether vaccination is associated with the upsurge of childhood disorders such as autism, other neurodevelopmental disorders and asthma. Parents claiming that vaccines have caused neurodevelopmental disorders in a legal proceeding now being heard in the Federal "vaccine court" have been denied access to the VSD.
The Centers for Disease Control has been severely criticized by the Institute of Medicine for its poor response to requests by independent researchers for access to the VSD.
Summary of H.R. 2832:
H.R. 2832 will direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services to conduct or support a comprehensive study comparing total health outcomes, including risk of autism, in vaccinated populations in the United States with such outcomes in unvaccinated populations in the United States, and for other purposes.
The proposed legislation provides as follows:
Securing the health of our children is our most important concern for the Nation's future. Health outcomes measure the success of public health efforts in chronic and infectious disease. The number of immunizations. administered to infants, pregnant women, children, teenagers and adults has grown dramatically over recent years. The incidence of chronic, unexplained diseases such as autism, learning disabilities, and other neurological disorders appears to have increased dramatically. Individual vaccines are tested for safety, but little safety testing has been conducted for interaction of effects of multiple vaccines. The strategy of aggressive, early childhood vaccination has never been tested in its entirety against alternative strategies, either for safety or for total health outcomes.
This study will compare total health outcomes, including autism, in vaccinated populations in the United States with such outcomes in unvaccinated populations in the united States; and to determine whether vaccines or vaccine components play a role in the development of autism spectrum or other neurological conditions.
The proposed legislation provides for objectivity, transparency and and conflict-free investigation by competent researchers. The bill identifies target populations to be included in the study such as the Old Amish or the Homefirst practice in Chicago. It provides for timely initiation and completion of the study.
