It's kind of nice having a blog title that doesn't end with !!!!! right ? :)

I had some pretty insane dreams last night. I was able to remember every part of it when I first woke up but dreams have a mysterious way of vanishing from the memory in the course of one day. Now I only remember bits and pieces but it did involve outer space, people visiting us from the future, random people I know coming in and out of the dream, and time travel.

Have I ever talked about my secret passion? It's the study of the universe and time. I've probably read A Brief History of Time about 10 times. When I go to the bookstore, I love to browse through the huge photography books on the birth of the universe and the cosmos. At the airport (which is the only time I ever buy magazines) I stock up on Scientific American and Discovery.
Someday when I'm older and I have a lot of time, I am going to finish school, and become an astronomer :)

Anywho.. back to life right now.. the recording process for this album is now complete!
I had a very intense and difficult meeting with my label to choose which songs actually made the album. I made so many wonderful friends during the making of this album and it was hard to choose ... some people's songs made it, some didn't. I love them all.. it was kind of heart breaking but I know that all songs have a way of surfacing over time.
If you guys are interested, some of the incredibly talented people I worked with are on my top friends and you should check them out ...

'Unfold' is my debut album.. it is the album of my dreams. It chronicles my life from age 15-23. It is a page in the story of my life ...

For this next album, I wanted to try something different.
The lyrics would remain my truth, my story
but I wanted a whole new landscape sonically.
I wanted beautiful melodies, and I wanted beats
That is the concept for this album

I feel like it's so easy to stay in one place .. to stay comfortable
I wanted to stretch myself ... my voice, my writing

This album was made during the course of oct 08 - jan 09
Which isn't a lot of time but so much happened in those few months
I broke down, I was scared, I was thrilled, I felt heart break, I felt love, I felt confident,
I became more comfortable in my own skin, I felt alone, I felt hopeful.... I felt so much
and i think that's what comes across in the songs.

I'm trying to figure out how best to introduce you to the music...
I'm not sure yet but I'm sure whatever I do will find its way to youtube :)

That's it for now. Hope you are all very well.

love,

marié

Hey, only the most talented can make an album in 4 months! You must have been hard at work. I think that is very cool about becoming an astronomer later in life. I am also mystified by the workings of our planet, the universe, all of it! Haha, anytime the history channel has a special on about the universe, I always get glued to it. Anyway, can't wait to hear what you have been working on, I am dying for some new tunes from you! Once again, thank you for dedicating so much of your time and love into your music.
It shows!

WOW, MARIE! YOU HAVE A WAY WITH WORDS! I AM GLAD YOU HAVE REMAINED YOURSELF, EVEN IN STARDOM. TAKE IT FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN THERE, CHASE YOUR DREAMS NOW, WHILE YOU ARE YOUNG ENOUGH TO ENJOY IT. DO BOTH, THE MUSIC AND SCHOOL/ASTRONOMY.
THERE ARE NO LIMITS!!

hi :) who was visiting us from the future? i used to have a passion for the universe, time and everything also, although this developed into a more general urge to understand life in general... now, i understand that time is relative, it's not a universal thing which exists everywhere in the universe, so time travel could be possible, who knows. i also believe now that everything is happening NOW, and past and future are just concepts in fact... my brain cannot go further than that for now, am afraid ;) keep visualising beautiful thoughts for your new album :)

a good book having to do with time and space and the universe (its a sci-fi.. :P) is "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeleine L'engle. if you haven't read it before and you have time, its really interesting and is actually the first in a series. Its quite short to, but the writing and characters and plot are all amazing.

Wow, while I was reading your blog, I thought that it coudln't be possible, but, I love astronomy too! XD I wanted to be an astronomer when I was a child. So bad my Maths are horrible, and I couldn't make it... so I'm in the middle of my Asian Studies, hahahaha. I'm sure your new album is going to be great!, if it is released in June or July in Japan, believe me, I'm gonna get it!, I'm going to be in Japan in July, so I will be so glad to have your album *O* (And maybe learn from your Japanese a little bit). Anyway Marié, take care! I'll keep reading you and watching you through Youtube! Keep the good work!!!

You know what they say, "Reach for the stars." Well, it's clear you took it to heart. You know, I wanted to major in astronomy for the longest time...then I realised just how bad I was at math, so...journalism it is! Don't worry though...I will NEVER work for The Wallstreet Journal, only the Pro-Marié publications. But yes...I, as well as everyone else, am soooo pumped for the new album and even more so for the "beautiful melodies" and the wanted "beats." As long as it's at least 11 tracks long it will be perfect, that way you can dominate my entire top 25 most played list WOOO!!! ---Patrick

Isn't it amazing how our solar system is just a speck of dust when looking at the Milky Way as whole? And to imagine that there's over 100 billion galaxies out there stretched across over 78 billion light years is just crazy. It makes me wonder what other civilizations are out there. And to know that bending time and space is not impossible, along with theories of parallel universes just boggles my mind...but like they say, yesterday's science fiction is today's science. Anyways good luck with your upcoming album Marié =).

WHAT?!? I am officially in love you with you. I'm in love with the night sky - though living in L.A., we really don't get to see much.

Seeing those pictures of the universe amazes me as well. I've owned A Brief History in Time, but...ironically, I haven't had tiiimme to read it. hahaha.

Isn't in funny how what we see in the night sky is actually millions/billions of light years from the past???! In real time, it may not even be there anymore.
Do you think those who are fascinated with the stars and galaxies, are fixated or draw a lot from the past??

Marié, you know Unfold is about the only thing to which I've listened in my car for months since I first got the album. Now since I teach all my classes online I don't have to commute so I don't drive all that much, but I've still listened to Unfold a fair number of times. You could say that Unfold has unfolded for me, with songs that didn't touch me at first slowly working their way into my feelings so that they're now as profound as the ones that did touch me right off the bat. As I listen now though, I sometimes wonder if you've moved on from Unfold, as excited as you've felt about your new songs. Do the old songs still mean as much to you? I love space and time too. Have you read much science fiction? Great science fiction authors have explored many topics of space and time since well before you or I were born. Besides the Time Machine, A Stitch in Time comes to mind.
And what if you had to stop someone from saving the love of your life in order to prevent the Nazis from winning World War II? I love the hard science of it too, and get the emails from Space. com for current information on space ... the final frontier. ;-) Fondly, David

I was reading about dreams recently and apparently we usually have multiple dreams a night and people usually can only remember the last one, if any. Space and time travel, wow it must have been a wild dream. You should have wrote it down and made a movie out of it! Looking forward to your new album. You work so hard girl! Some artist take years to come out with a new album. Their excuse is tours and events, but you did all of that and still managed to produce two albums! Hope you do become an astronomer one day, so that you can see what a star you've become!...hehe...sorry that was quite lame...

Marie, Your curiosity is a great asset. Life will always be exciting if you're always learning. Please don't wait too long to go to college. Life has a way of introducing one unexpected delay after another, until it becomes too late to do certain things. (I bet your Dad said something like that! Sorry, nagging is an occupational hazard for all Dads! lol) Oh, and the dream means that you've been watching too many "Lost" episodes for too long! ;) By the way, Steven Hawkins used to use ..alk to speak. I think he still uses it. Search for "..alk", and my name, to find the most boring article you could possibly ever read! I'm considering writing a book, "A Narrow History of Space". It would be about what's between my ears. If you don't already have one, consider getting a good reflector telescope. And, get away from the city to where it's dark to see the really distant stars, galaxies, and nebulas. "The Observers Handbook" is also a good resource. There are also online telescopes, that you can control. Some are free! (It's not the same as seeing it live though). I look forward to your new album. I know it will be great.
I wish I could tell you your future, but I don't want to disrupt this time-line! ;)
