APPLE CORPS LTD., MTV AND HARMONIX COME TOGETHER FOR UNPRECEDENTED DEAL

Exclusive Agreement Set to Bring The Beatles Music to Fans for the First Time in Interactive Form Here, There and Everywhere in 2009

New York, NY – October 30, 2008 – The Beatles' extraordinary music and phenomenal legacy is set to rock across the universe in the form of a video game through an exclusive partnership between Apple Corps Ltd., Harmonix and MTV Games, a part of Viacom's MTV Networks (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B).

This partnership marks the first time that Apple Corps, along with EMI Music, Harrisongs Ltd, and Sony/ATV Music Publishing, has agreed to present The Beatles music in an interactive video game format. Published by MTV Games and developed by Harmonix, the world's premier music video game company and creators of the best-selling Rock Band®, the game will be an unprecedented, experiential progression through and celebration of the music and artistry of The Beatles. The game was creatively conceived with input from Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, along with Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison, and enjoys their full blessing. In addition, Giles Martin, co-producer of The Beatles innovative LOVE project, will provide his expertise and serve as Music Producer for this groundbreaking Beatles project.

"The project is a fun idea which broadens the appeal of The Beatles and their music. I like people having the opportunity to get to know the music from the inside out," Sir Paul McCartney said.

"It gives me great pleasure to be part of The Beatles / Apple and Harmonix / Rock Band partnership," said Ringo Starr.  "The Beatles continue to evolve with the passing of time and how wonderful that The Beatles' legacy will find its natural progression into the 21st century through the computerized world we live in.  Let the games commence."

"It's cool.  I love it and hope it will keep inspiring and encouraging the young generation for many decades," said Yoko Ono Lennon.

"People are having so much fun playing Rock Band. Combined with The Beatles tracks, it is a great way to either listen or participate," said Olivia Harrison. "If you like the music, it doesn't take much persuasion to get you to play."

"Introducing the genius of The Beatles to a whole new generation of music lovers through original and inspired ways is extremely exciting to us at Apple Corps," stated Jeff Jones, CEO, Apple Corps.  "We are truly pleased to be working with the innovative forces at MTV and Harmonix as they embody our mutual passions for music and creativity."

"Many of us have been part of a generation that has long enjoyed an enduring love affair with The Beatles and now we're looking to extend that love affair for future generations to enjoy," said Van Toffler." "Our inspiration for this project comes from a keen sense of history and a place of utmost reverence and respect for the band, their music and their heritage."

"The impact of The Beatles is forever ingrained in the hearts, minds and souls of millions the world over," said Judy McGrath, Chairman and CEO of MTV Networks. "The Beatles are the reason many of us are WHERE we are, and some of us are WHO we are."

"We are honored to be part of this new way for people to discover the timeless music and art of The Beatles - the most creatively and commercially successful, critically acclaimed, and influential band in the history of popular music," stated Paul DeGooyer, MTV's Senior Vice President of Electronic Games & Music.

"By presenting their music and artistry through the creative filter of a groundbreaking video game, we are giving legions of fans and music lovers all over the world a profound, new way to experience The Beatles," said Alex Rigopulos, CEO and Co-Founder, Harmonix. "This game will be a celebration of the Beatles undeniable legacy."

Yeah, I think that most people realized that it was a hypothetical question. It's kind of a shame that some people didn't understand that, and then preceded to start name calling.
I know one thing, if John Lennon and George Harrison were alive, they would not have approved of that. Peace and Love!

that's really a shame, games like rock band and guitar hero are ruining kids minds thinking they are some kind of rockstar when they should be out trying to learn the REAL instrument and make REAL music...just depressed the beatles have jumped on the bandwagon...

I feel like Rock Band isn't a way of making kids feel like rockstars.. it is almost more of a modern and interactive form of listening to music. rather than giving them the impression that they create it. it allows kids to really rock out to the music the way the band did when they wrote and perform(ed) it. and it allows adults a fun challenge to do while interacting with the music. i feel like the beatles see that, as they've always been a progressive band, experimenting with new things.. it'd almost be like they're the first band to have a fully interactive album, instead of all the former "interactive albums" that were just compilations? idk. ha.. thats just my idea of it, being a fellow musician. much love. good day.

First of all, I don't think their purpose is to ruin kids minds, nor does it make anybody think they are a rock star. Second, I personally know a few people who have picked up the guitar (one person the drums) after playing those games. Third, The Beatles have always had merchandise with they're faces on it (dolls, lunch boxes, wigs, bed sheets, pillow cases, cartoon shows, much more I'm sure). They've always been on that bandwagon, and that's just part of the business. Be happy that they do have some input on it and their blessing, maybe it won't be as bad as you think. Peace and Love!

no it isn't a shame... in a time like ours, coming from a music education major, the generation now is fixed on technology. This gives kids a chance to experiment with music and find their own appreciation for it. For one, rhythm is quite essential as well as pitch and tone when singing with the rock band. It may not be your "REAL" instrument but kids are making "REAL" music.

id disagree saying its takes real talent to play music. i mean kids know its just a game and hell even when i play those games i think "damn people love our cover band" because of course none of it is original music and it might help get kids who want to play interested or else if they think playing guitar is like a video game it might be a rougher transition.

all tho agree it is depressing to see the beatles jump on the bandwagon

Yes but on the plus side....I'm more satisfied with my 11 year old girl singing the words to Ironman, Godzilla, and countless other classic rock tunes than the garbage they listen to now. Same beat, same clap track, same oversinging and the constant use of the"N" word every other tune. Now when my kid rides with me, she says of yea I know that one. She even knows the names of each Beatle and can sing a bunch of thier tunes too.

Oh please. Everybody knows I'm the only gamer in the world who actually loves music. Nobody possibly does both.

People are either going to get into music or they aren't; in a culture where we can't even sit down and listen to music anymore without doing something else too, what makes you think there's such a large portion of the population who are just itching to write the next "Hey Jude"? Rock Band and Guitar Hero are fun ways to be into music if you have no real talent whatsoever (or mess with your mind if you actually play guitar! :p), or if you *gasp* are a music lover who likes games, talented or not.

Besides, if none of that satisfies, there are other treasures to be had from a game like this, if it's designed on the Rock Band/Guitar Hero mo(gg)del. ;)

I think the disagreement over the remasters has more to do with the evolving technology and when to pull the trigger on it. It took years for them to get all the original albums digitally remastered. I think there is a struggle over cost and the fear that if they do it now, a new format may come along in less than five years that makes all that work obsolete.

How do you know he doesn't play real guitar? And what if some people just want to play a video game and have fun? Get over it. Anyone with a brain who plays that game (like me) knows that they're not doing anything remotely like playing a guitar.

I like this game. I can't learn guitar to save my life, but I do play piano. I'm happy that they're making a Beatles version. It's about time they put some good music in the game, make it more enjoyable...

this is amazing
how these capitalistic scumbags mold the beatles into a money making machine along with all these old school bands

for the past months, i noticed it became trendy to like oldschool band like aroesmith the who the police and a couple more, to be honest these bands have a generic sound, of course there talented.
but its easy to become a fan i bet. just go to one of there concerts and buy a 40 dollar shirt and get the new rockband or guitar hero, then download there greatest hits and then when you go to school go to all your friends and say "they rock" and "there awesome" have you heard(put song name here) thats the best song in the world!!!!!

im 14. and aerosmith has been my favorite band for 3 years, and i loved GH aerosmith because it gave me a chance to listen to my all time favorite music, while just hanging out and playing a video game. its the same thing as when i put my ipod on to play any other video game. its enjoying great music while playing a fun game. also i played bass and piano before GH came out, and when i got it i started playing guitar, and rockband got me playing drums. so now i play 4 instruments thanks to this game. and 3 of my friends play guitar now and listen to better music than that rap shit. how is this a bad thing at all? i am totally stoked for this game to come out so i can listen to one of my favorite bands while playing a game i love.
