So, last night we had dinner at the Penthouse at the Huntley hotel in Santa Monica. It has AMAZING food! Joining us was Maureen McCormick and her husband Micheal. Our friend Barry and Julie, and my friends Elizabethy and Barry Williams. At one point, the ladies and I went downstairs to hang by the fire. When we were done, we hopped back in the elevator to get back to the table.

A woman gets in the elevator with us and presses the 4th floor, us the Penthouse. However, the buttons were not staying lit, so I pressed them a few more times, only to find out the car had headed to the basement to pick up a worker. During this time, this fucking woman decided I wasn't pressing the buttons right, so she then HIT my hand out of the way. No, it wasn't a push, it wasn't a brush, this woman full out smacked my hand away from the buttons like I was a little kid touching a hot stove! I was in shock! I have never had anyone be so damn rude and uncouth to me before. I felt violated and stood speechless. When we started going back up, the woman crowded me into the corner. The door opened once more in the lobby before we headed up, and she jum,ped out acting like a fucking drama queen. She LOUDLY stated she couldn't be in an elevator with a person who just sits there pushing buttons! Are you kidding me? I kept pushing the number 4 and the penthouse floor, buttons that had already been pushed!

When that horrid woman got out and the doors closed, my friends Julie and Elizabeth just stood there wide eyed. Who acts this way in public? Honestly, I have never had a person physically touch me like that before. My hand stung for a good 3 minutes afterwards. I have really been trying to learn self control, so instead of freaking out on her (which I was moments away from doing) I decided to hold it in till I could blog about this fucking social panzy. I hope NONE of you run into a person like this.

What is the lesson of the day? Do NOT physically grab people and be a bitch to them in an elevator. if you are too paranoid of elevators that you cannot act civil, get off your FAT ASS and walk those 4 floors up! I am scared shitless of elevators too, but besides a whimper while I put my face in my hands, I would  never dream of physically and aggressively pushing another person around. I hope that woman reads this, and realizes just how "white trash" she came across. Ugh.

Have any of you had anything similar happen to you? Was there a time in your life someone you did NOT know decided they can not only invade your personal space...but lay their hands on you???

You're really askeered of elevators? Priceless.

Why not just get right up in her face and poke her in the nose... tell her the button-pushing was practice building up exactly to this moment. Them make a "Wonk!" sound as you poke her nose. Hard.

Twuntface moron.

Anyone doing that to me gets an automatic, "Who the fuck do you think you are and what mnakes you think I won't slap you in the face for that right here and now?" How I proceed depends on their reaction.

I am just floored that someone would physically touch a stranger much less smack their hand like a wayward toddler. Didn't her Mother teach her any manners!! Kudos on not beating the crap out of her. It not easy to be the better person.

The only time I can remember someone touching me like that was while I was pregnant. The only difference was they thought they were being nice. I was cool with people who asked to touch my belly but it just is wrong to put your hands on someone who doesn't know you. You almost feel kind of violated.

I'm sorry there are such fucked up people in the world. I'm trying to raise my daughters with some manners so maybe one day they won't act like White Trash in public. I personally think you are awesome and I would never be rude to you. Keep speaking your mind. It's refreshing to know not everyone follows the crowd like a sheep.

P.S I've noticed that some of the people who call themselves your myspace "friends" are rather toxic. Life is too short to waste your time with "friends" like that.

Love, Patty

i had a women hit me in the heels with her shopping cart on the way into the food store because she was in a hurry..i gave her a look and went on and she did it again...so i took her shopping cart away...turned it upside down right in the walk way....she stood there trying to turn it over but it was stuck and everyone started yelling at her because she was blocking the door way...it seems 1 out of every 100 people are "ASSHOLES" and i deal with them apropriatly...next time hit all the buttons and stand in front of the button panel...whats she gonna do then..lol

At the airport a woman did something like that to me. Jumped in front of me to get her bag and acted as if I were accosting her! She was yelling and very rude. Her next step would've been violent had I not stepped back and shook my head sadly at her.

Hey, I love the Penthouse at the Huntley. Was there last week.

going to the Fairmont Miramar tonight.

Hey to Adrianne!

two things jumped out as i read this:

1. why did you equate uncivil, rude, violent behavior with the overweight? improper behavior knows no size, and actually i find that, percentage wise, the more slender or attractive someone is, the ruder they are simply because they believe they have the right to be. and that they definately believe they are superior to me since i've got more to luv. i'm not saying all of one size or asthetic is this way, but that not all paranoid assholes have fat asses.

2. that was out of bounds. i would have reported her to security. no. i'd have smacked the shit out of her. but you were handicapped by your fear of elevators and witnesses. i've been smacked before by a customer at my desk. i immediately closed down the transaction i was doing for him, slid his money back, turned off my computer, and left my station. he had a fit because i just left him there without a word, and that i was being overly sensitive to a 'nothing' situation. i told two big burly coworkers what happened and they immediately 'ushered' the jerk out of the store. the sad thing was that the idiot would always say that he ran a customer service department. bleh.

you did good, kiddo. she had no business laying hands on her. but really, i would have had her skank ass removed by security. but that's just me.

Wow, Gracie, two things jumped out at me as I read this:

1. You, as a self-described person with "more to luv," may possibly be too "overly sensitive" to consider that this person may have actually had a FAT ASS as well as being rude.

2. You describe what she did as "out of bounds" and then say what you would have done is "smack the shit out of her." It seems to me like you make your own case for equating "uncivil, rude, violent behavior with the overweight."

Kisses,

V

I think -- that FAT ASS was used as a figure of speech............as in take your FAT ASS and walk the steps. Even if the person was 100 pounds. So, in defense of people of ALL SIZE. I don't believe that the comment was meant to equate rude and tactless elevator etiquette with BIG LARGE SIZED people.................. This was not to 'start' something.....just something I perceived differently than you.

in actuality obviously she did/does equate fat and rude.
it is socialital (sp) . because we as a group aren't allowed to express ourselves with regards to race or ... we get to insult people for being fat or 'white trash' which i think i need a definition for.
generally it would mean poor or country .

rude this woman definitely was and committed assault and battery she did.
apparently the real lesson of this day wasn't don't be ... but be that until you are stopped.
everyone is a bitch at times maybe she had a bad day and adrianne was just the end of it.
but seriously do you really think real people don't run into rude skinny ass people all the time?
hope this is the last time it happens to you but it happens to 'normal' people all the time. daily.

she ,the elevator lady, may have perceived the situation just as you thought she did. she clearly reacted like you were being a child or whatever. still she shouldn't slap , hit , push whatever you for it.

Hi Adrianne,

Thats the way people are now. Then again you may have been set up for a reporter or a lawsuit because they knew you. You did the right thing.

Yes it has happened to me too. A hooker hit the stop button and pulled up her dress for me and my GIRLFRIEND to see and made us both an offer. I hit the re-start button and got off at the next floor.

Rob Zombie/Ozzy Osbourne Concert
Elevator going to our floor in the parking garage.

Ok so me and my friend who is not a crowd person AT ALL and actually takes some medication are getting into the elevator in the parking garage along with a kid and his parents and some drunk guy. The guy decides that this is the appropriate time to poke my friend, who has some issues, in the nose and just get in her face about nothing because hes drunk.

This is when for the safety of all involved i stepped in between the two of them, as i can see her workin into what could possibly be his murder, and say " i highly reccomend that you not do that again for your own personal safety." he says some smart ass thing and i look at him and in that cold calm im not fuckin around voice tell him" look you do not know her and if you touch her again she is liable to beat the crap out of you because you touched her and she doesnt do touching"

Suffice it to say he took the warning seriously and backed off, all the time this family is lookin at us like wtf, but after all it was a concert and this kind of shit happens.

I strongly recommend to everyone that you never touch another person because you have no idea if they have issues that involve being touched by people you dont know. Good for you for not saying or doing anything.

I on the other hand would have whipped myself around and then found myself on the way to jail.

And i thought i had drama!

I have had similar situations, and I wonder, wth is wrong people these days? Hasn't anyone ever heard of "personal space"? I mean, don't people have a natural..."boundary" of sorts, around them, that is considered their own personal space? And isn't it just common knowledge that one does not intrude on another's personal space out of RESPECT? No, no, not these days. People are just plain rude, and feel entitled to shit just for having been born.
Kudos to you for having maintained self control...shows who the grown up was in that situation.

There were a quite several times where a lot of strangers thought they were entitled to lay their hands on me, disclipine me, or whatsoever, mostly because I'm Deaf. So I'm always being looked down on, as if I'm incapable of thinking for myself.

However, something did happened to me yesterday, although it wasn't physical, but I did feel violated in some way. I was at my car in front of Wal-Mart because I had to buy diapers for my daughter since I was dropping her off to be babysit by my grandma before I head out to school. I already opened my door, and was about to get in with my 13 MONTHS OLD daughter in my arm when this woman sped up in parking lot, and wouldn't wait patiently to park her car in the spot next to my car. I was totally taken aback, partly because she had 3 kids with her in her car. I felt I had to control myself because I'm not the type of person who would lash out on anyone if there's children around. That woman just doesn't think about how I need to get the baby in car safely, and then buckle her up in car seat. I kept on thinking, "Doesn't she remember what it is like to have a baby, seeing how she got 3 kids in car with her?" Maybe she's one of those people who just toss their kids in the car without car seats. Unfortunately, I've known several who have done that...not even seat belts at least either.

I only had one stranger touch my pregger belly. Usually even friends would ask if it is okay to touch. The thing I HATE the worst is when I have my 10 month old princess (bothered me more when she was a tiny infant) in the shopping cart at the grocery or WalMart and some skank comes up to us and touches her in some form or fashion. Makes me want to take an antibacterial wipe and wipe her down after the skank comes over and violates her. Don't touch other people's kids, esp if you haven't bathed in quite some time! If you feel you have the need to talk to her, keep your hands off!

Ohhhh and I HAVE had that happen where someone came up to Julia, actually it was the very day we adopted her, we went to lunch after court and one of the waitresses came over and touched her face while she was sleeping in her seat. I kind of pulled her seat away and moved her so she was facing me. I noticed the lady barely spoke English, so I'm not sure if it was a culture difference or what, but I would NEVER touch anyones baby if I didn't know them. Hell, even if I DO know them, I ask.

Once I had this woman behind me in line at a grocery store check out. The person in front of me had alot of items and I was not able to start to put my items on the belt. This woman behind me decided that I was not moving ahead fast enough and took her cart and smashed me right in the behind with it! She was basically using her cart as a weapon to move the line quicker! I always think that most of the time people stand much too close behind you in line, breathing down your neck and invading your personal space but I never had someone purposefully rear - end me before. I dont understand how some people have survived so long in public without ANY sort of social skills **
