I have really studied this, because I have always been desperate for an answer. Does God exist? What is God, and what's with this whole religion thing?

Since I started my journey to finding peace with God and such, I learned so much about ancient civilizations. Some which I never even knew existed! What was most shocking to me, was how every religion that has ever existed on this earth can be linked to one another. We have taken old rituals from religions previous to Christianity and made it part of our church rituals. It's absurd to me how anyone can look at the bible and see it as anything other than what it is....a book man wrote because he was SO desperate to find the answer to the meaning of life.  For one religion to claim it is THE religion is almost laughable. All of our religions are nothing but a collection of stories and ancient rituals of the past.

Is there a God? I personally believe there is. I believe in good and evil, and I am on the good side. ; ) I have a hard time believing that God would expect me to believe a bunch of ancient ramblings. This is 2008. Unlike the people who wrote the bible, we know the world is round, what gravity is, that dinosaurs once ruled our planet, etc etc. The utter lack of education of people that long ago is what pushes me away from "The Book". That, and the fact that a bunch of primative men wrote it. ; ) Sorry boys, but I have never experienced you guys being able to get deep and in tune with your feelings. I can't imagine what men were like in the days of people just slaughtering each other! If a girl wrote the bible, I might buy into it more...but that is just me.

Scientology is one of the most joked about religions today. Scary enough, not too long ago Christianity was seen the same way. If a belief system is around long enough, we might just forget all those cracks in it's foundation. I predict that by the year 2300, we will be a planet of Scientology...yes, this is my attempt at humor!

Did Jesus live? Sure he did! There seems to be enough evidence to point out that he was around. However, I find it an insult to my intelligence that "God" would assume we would just all believe in stories that we have NO EVIDENCE of. So, here I am not believing in organized religion, yet still entertaining the idea that there is more out there. I have had some personal experiences that let me know that I am not alone in this world, and that there is so much more than this. However, I never had a feeling that people who are GOOD and do not believe in Jesus will go to hell. I also do not believe all my gays will be going to hell. I don't even think I believe in a Hell!

So, perhaps all these religions and their message of goodness have one thing right, to be good. What is good? I think most of us feel when we are doing something...not so good. What is the payoff? I couldn't tell you. I will never claim to know. I just know that whatever lies outside of this world, no one understands. Not one person can come here and claim "I really have the answer!" you all know you don't. I believe in faith, but I do not believe in making myself look like a fool because of it. When my husband goes to vegas, I have faith he wont cheat. I cannot have faith in something that there is no proof of it's existence.  I can understand how some people can emerse themselves in organized religion to give themselves peace of mind. Heck, that is why men wrote the bible to begin with! I just can't wrap up my time in something like that. I appreciate church, I think it is beautiful, I just don't know.

So there, years later and I am no closer to any answer except that organized religion is basically a stew of crap. the fact that some old dudes in the church picked what texts even made the bible is enough for me to walk away. Did GOD tell them which ones to throw out? Please, you boys think you know how EVERYTHING goes! ; )

Are people going to jump all over my ass for asking these questions? Most likely. I don't care though. I think this is a very real subject for a lot of people. I think Church going people are fine...Go to your temple and worship! It's just not my bag. I have a really good feeling that "God" is a hell of a lot cooler than we make "it" out to be.


EDITED NOTE:: Let me clear something up, I do not believe in "God" as a Man or Woman. I believe that "God" is energy, the stars, etc...The Universe is my temple
