September 14, 2008 - Sunday

Current mood:  aggravated

I am sorry, but I believe all these people should have to pay the bill for their individual rescues! When they issue a "certain death" warning and you are fucking dumb enough to stay, you do not deserve free aid. I watched people being interviewed on the news claiming they bought a bunch of beer and BBQ to sit through the storm. I bet these same people are crying for help as I type. This is fucking stupid! Why should we have to foot a dime for these dumbasses that ignored these warnings?

FREE transportaion was provided, many buses left half empty. FREE shelters were provided, many not filled up. People value MONEY and POSESSIONS more than their own lives? IDIOTS!

I feel like we reward stupidity in this country, and this is the perfect example of it. What do you guys think?

edited note:: I never said they should DIE, I said if they value their MONEY and POSSESSIONS more thn their own LIVES they should have to pay for endangering the lives of rescue workers, and sucking up more money this government DOESN'T have. someone claimed they didnt want to lose their job...I wasn't aware the bank was open that day!

PS_ My own brother is one of these morons...he sits through hurricanes in Florida. I believe he should pay for his rescue if he needs it. Why should I feel MORE for people who are NOT my own flesh and blood? Your just as crazy and dumb as him, cheesus love him!

hell yeah! Look i understand "certain people" wanna be one with nature and do dumb shit like that but seriously. When they get trapped after every mother fucker says "get the hell out!" and u stay and endanger lives of other people who would rather be with their family, instead have to risk their lives for these morons. Fuck Them! i mean i don't want anyone to die but if u put yourself at risk like that why should my tax paying money have to help you get your dumb ass out of there!
People are just stupid and when they get in trouble look for help from everyone else to bail them out.

You CANNOT get people to do what you want. People will choose on their own what they are going to do. This is called freedom. It does not matter if the Government issues a "leave or die" warning. It does not matter if a celebrity says you should do it. People are free to choose and decide their own paths.

ADRIANNE CURRY, you need to understand that not everyone is like you. They don't think like you. They don't live like you. They don't act like you. Many people will put their lives into their possessions. They could not imagine life without the things they have. This is the result of the materialistic culture we live in that is propagated by celebrities such as yourself. If you want to lay blame then don't blame the sheep that follow the advertisements and the live for now culture that is supported by the likes of VH1 and MTV. Blame the leaders and the producers and the stars that show off their well to do lifestyle and can afford to buy almost anything. People work hard and scrimp and save for what little they own. They spend their lives trying to gather a few things together and in the blink of an eye you expect them to drop it all for a life with nothing. Some of those people would have rather died than lose all they had. You want to call them stupid for not leaving and charge them to be rescued.

Some of these people have lived through storms before. They thought they knew what to expect. When Hurricane Ivan came through the evacuation was worse than if people had just stayed home.

You sit back and judge them not knowing anything about their lives. You assume that everyone had the same chance to leave with the same knowledge about shelters that you have now days after the fact.

I am really disappointed in you. I thought you were intelligent. Your just a self righteous know-it-all no better than some fundamentalist religious fruit cake.

It great that you are opinionated. It's great that you have a forum where you can reach so many people. It's sad that you never put that to good use.

You could have posted links for people to donate money to relief efforts. Instead you chose to criticize the people who now need help.

Don't worry. I have done a little research for you. Here is a short list of organizations (many of them religious) that are conducting relief efforts for the survivors of Hurricane Ike:

http://www.mccormickfoundation.org/NetCommunity/Page.aspx?pid=319

For anyone reading this please use one of the links to find an organization and help out if you can so that ADRIANNE CURRY's tax dollars are not wasted on the dumb asses, idiots, morons, and crazy stupid people that now need assistance.

I think you have never lived anywhere where a hurricane is a threat and therefore shouldn't make judgments. I live in an area where hurricane threats are a yearly thing. Every year we watch the tropics and wonder if this is going to be the year.

In 1999? Hurricane Floyd threatened our area and they called for a mandatory evacuation of our town. It was a fight to get gas, it was a fight to get simple supplies to take on the road...you can forget being able to find a kennel for your animals etc. All along the road I saw families in cars that had broken down because they were not in condition to be on the highway. All the major AND MINOR arteries out of our city were in GRIDLOCK. 2 hours drive west took us 9 hours...and then you know what...the storm turned. It happens all the time. My mother had to spend our grocery money for the next 2 weeks on gas and random food for me and her on the road for the trip there, the hotel, and the trip back and had to get a title loan on our car which blew a head gasket three days after we got back.

So you know what...

Fuck you. Sit in your goddamn mansion and keep your fucking opinionated mouth shut. You know NOTHING about this shit so you should stay quiet. These storms can NOT run our lives. We can't just drop our lives, our houses, our jobs, our pets etc to run away just so that ADRIANNE CURRY'S tax dollars don't have to possibly rescue us.

My husband works hard, I work hard. It's not like we are some welfare trash family...but I know the reality of the situation. We drive a 1992 Chrysler Voyager van with a kelly blue book value of ONE DOLLAR. If a storm headed this way, unless they are gonna offer up a bus to get us out of here...we have no choice but to stay. We also don't have any money for a rescue so...in your opinion they should just let us die huh?

FUCK YOU.

You just lost a fan. You should be thrown into a hurricane yourself.

JanWicked: Do you. perchance, live in Charleston,SC?? I too was stuck for hours trying to leave the city when Floyd came. A trip home from work, took 2 hours which only should take 20 minutes on a bad traffic day. We got on the road with what little money we had in our 1984 Reliant K car that would overheat when it felt like it and watched as people got out of their cars and walked around the interstate because traffic wasnt moving. Nothing quite like being trapped in a hurricane in your own car. After 4 hours of driving on I-26 from our house we had made it to Ashley Phosphate Road from Dorchester Road and that is typically a 15 minute drive. Ended up pulling in to the Super 8 hotel because the wind was picking up.

I lived through Hurricane Hugo when I was 16 years old and my father wouldnt leave because we had to deliver newspapers the next day. Some people dont understand what hurricanes can do and some companies dont care what it takes; if you arent at work the next day to survey the damage and protect from looting you WILL lose your job. We were under national guard curfew and if you were caught out you would be shot...no questions asked.
So I guess what I am saying is stay or go...it all depends if you have the money to put gas in the car and canned food for your belly without going broke if nothing at all happens.

You know you make your own decisions on where you wish to live. Granted no place in this world is totally safe from any kind of natural disaster, but c'mon you KNOW you live in a hurricane prone area you should take some responsibility for yourself.

I myself life in a flood plane and risk earth quakes, should my house flood, or get damaged in an earthquake then I take responsibility for that. But I also have home owners insurance. (And there is renters insurance if you don't own your home but wish to have some kind of insurance on your valuables.)

And also these days after Katrina the state and govt. are becoming more prepared and more willing to help people out before a disaster strikes. Nothing is 100% but then again its better than nothing at all.

I feel that if you decide to stay after you are told to get out or risk death should not be bailed out. It frustrated that crap out of me watching the news last night at work that they were searching around in helicopters for stranded people who still refused to leave their homes. These people were then left food and water so they could last a few more days, until they likely WILL have to be rescued.

Just my 2 cents, but I'm sure you probably don't give a rat's ass.

I think this is a little over wrought. She didn't say that you should die. She said that if you do not take the opportunity to leave when you are told to leave the you should pay for somebody to rescue you. Why should the government pay to rescue you for your own obstinance? Shouldn't there be a penalty for that?

Then perhaps After the storm you should consider saving your money and moving to a safer area so you don't have to worry about leaving when a hurricane comes? I don't doubt that you work for a living, and that you work hard, and I don't think your white trash for a moment. I do think that you have to be adult enough though that you plan ahead for disasters in life. If you don't think you can afford to get to saftey, or get on a bus that is offered up by the government for free, then you should be adult enough to realize that for YOUR OWN SAFTEY, you can't afford to live in that area. Maybe try Chicago, North Dakota, or some place with fewer natural disasters. Then of course you still need insurance in case your house burns down? Are you prepared for that? That can happen anywhere, no matter what tax bracket your living in. I have to Agree with Adrianne on this one 100%. I don't want your lack of planning or anyone elses for that mater comming out of ALL OUR tax dollars. I can't spend all my money and expect someone to come pluck me off my roof top because I can't afford to drive to saftey. Not to mention be selfish enough to put a rescue worker in harm because of my lack of planning, why should you or anyone else be any different? Be Gald you have that van, there are some who don't even have that, but many of them got on the buses and went to saftey.

They warned them they wouldnt help them, but they are now anyway!

I agree with Adrianne and I am certainly no millionaire by any means. I barely make ends meet some months when unexpected things happen but let me tell you - if the government told me to get out and take shelter elsewhere...Id be gone ESPECIALLY if a bus showed up and gave me free taxi out of the way!

And one dollar value? You both have jobs? Me thinks you protest too much

I totally agree with Adrianne on this point, I mean come on when told to evaculate and you chose to stay, do you think you can save your material stuff from being lost in the hurricane, come on people. I live in Florida, and been threw some hurricanes. I don't get the people who want to RIDE out the storm. Have we learned nothing over the years. Yes those morons who stay should damn sure pay for there own rescue so finacially aid can go for those who chose to be smart and leave. Get a clue people,

How is it that you both work and only have a van worth $1? I feel sad for you. I also think that you are being way to harsh on Adrianne. You have supported her viewpoint expressed on many of her recent blogs, but just because you disagree on this one you want to slit her throat. You should be ashamed for being such a shallow person. If this is your real attitude regarding others, I can only imagine that any friends you may have are simple carbon copies or followers that agree with all that you say and stand for. As I said, I feel sorry for you. I never understood how left wing libs always talk "diversity", yet any real diversity in thought is shouted down and denigrated. Hypocrits.

well... i would venture a guess that it was minimum wage, and also she said blue book value of $1.00. i myself bought a minivan that was $500.00 and is currently getting worked on for $300 (all that is wrong with it, besides being old, is the transmission)

if she"s waitressing then the average job pays $2.50 and tips.

i see how she'd be hard pressed.

Ya know I never comment but I have to on this. DON"T LIVE IN HURRICANE COUNTRY!!! It's your decision to live there so you know what? Take your lumps and shut your mouth. You and your family should have an emergency fund so in case you do have to evacuate your momma won't have to spend your grocery money on saving your asses. If you and your husband work so hard for your money then where does it go? Hair dye? Crappy make-up? Maybe you and your hubby should try and find better jobs. It is that simple. Sounds like a bunch of excuses to me. And yes, I have lived in hurricane country so I can speak, and I chose to move away from it.

Girl, puh-lease!

I've lived in Florida most of my life: THE HURRICAIN CAPITAL OF THE WORLD. And they aren't anything to fuck around with either. It doesn't matter how much or little money you have, when they say evacuate, that means get your ass out of there ASAP.

Yeah, you may lose your home, your vehicle, your job, and money(all of which, over time, is replaceable) but if you valued your life to any extent, you'd listen, instead of wasting time bitching and telling someone to fuck off when they've made a valid point.

My family and I boarded up our home and left when hurricain Andrew hit. Yea, it was a big decision to make, and a rough one at that, but we did it because we valued our lives!

The people that chose to stay during a MANDATORY evacuation really deserve no financial help. It's the ones that listen and make an effort to help themselves that should receive any financial assistance.

Obviously you are a very materialistic person, so I leave you with thing to think about as you so assholishly bashed the owner of this blog: There is a mother fucker on the street right now with no legs in a wheelchair who has cancer and no job, who picks through trash to eat at night, and yet carries a better attitude than you do and doesn't feel sorry for himself and hate the world. And you, little one, have to live with that.

You'll be glad to know that if I come across you while pulling people outta houses, I'll still help you - even though you're kinda fucked up and dopey. Adri never suggested that people should die because they couldn't leave, she's saying they should pay for their rescue if they were offered a ride out and refused it. Considering how many corpses we pulled out of houses in N.O. after Katrina and Rita, I think people who remain behind when they don't have to are pretty much insane, barring circumstances detailed below.

What she doesn't know (and neither do you apparently) is that many of those who intentionally remain behind in a class 3, 4, or 5 hurricane tend to be first responders, construction workers who know exactly what their home can and can't take, or people who've lived through it before and know what to do. I myself have an insane habit of going into a hurricane zone BEFORE it hits, to help as it's happening. If I wasn't so goddamn sick right now I'd be in Beaumont, and expect to be there within the week.

And that horseshit where you say she should be thrown into a hurricane just because she said something you disagree with? Stop being such an infantile machobitch and give due consideration to the constitution. If you'd rather live somewhere people don't have freedom of expression, there are plenty of countries like that in the world. As is, you come off like a petty whiny sociopath.

i only have one story, and it's an assault case story: my grandfather liked to show off that he had money cos he worked for a steel mill in east chicago, indiana so whenever someone came out to the house he'd take his cash out and seperate it and count it out on the table in front of them.

once he did this in front of his paper carrier, a teen ager, for a two week payment. so he's counting out $100s for not even a $10.00 bill. the teen gets high and decides that he needs more money for drugs, so he goes to my grandpa's house and when my grandpa opens the door hits the crap out of him with a baseball bat. he backed my grandpa into the hall and proceeded to do a number on him. the only thing that saved my grandpa was that my uncle who lives next door came home and saw the front door open.

after a couple of weeks in the hospital, my mom, aunt, and i had to go to the house and clean up the huge pools of blood all over the living room, dining room, and hallway to the bedroom. by then the blood was black. i was a kid, and while i loved my grandpa, i agreed with my mom and aunt that anyone who was stupid enough to show off like that didn't have it coming but didn't warrent sympathy either.

you pay for your stupidity.

Where did all this Rush Limpballs type crap about people on welfare start? I know a lot of people on welfare, meet with them once a month to discuss carpentry for adaptive rennovation. Yup, they're disabled. What makes you think any of them are douche bags? Ever go down to the welfare office and just talk to the people waiting in line? I have, while shooting a documentary. Try it sometime, just talk with them, some of them are too proud to tell you how they got there, but the really broken ones often can't afford or no longer have the energy to put up a brave face. Inform your opinions with real facts, ok? People on welfare are still PEOPLE.

I agree, however...my family hit some VERY rough times...and out of pride in ourselves, we never went in for welfare. We borrowed from our own families, or worked harder to ensure we didnt need it. sadly, a lot of the people on it don't deserve it...however, some of them really need it.

I am a little heartless when it comes to welfare only because I think the american people should choose if they want to DONATE to welfare or not. As it stands, i know plenty of struggling single mothers trying to make ends meet that need every cent they can get...these people shouldnt have to give any of their paychecks to anyone on welfare

yet, why was welfare even brought up here? the only welfare I am talking about is the well being of humans...and why any person BESIDES rescue workers, etc would stay when the government issues CERTAIN DEATH warnings....pure stupidity

911 calls were made during the night...and operators could only offer this advise...TIE AN IDENTIFICATION TAG TO YOUR ANKLE AND PRAY! sorry, but these people are not to smart

Adrianne,

No offense... because I know how much disgust you have for us conservatives... but you ALMOST sound like a Republican! LMFAO!!!!!
I think your great... simply because you are not afraid to express what you really feel, even if I disagree with you often, I respect that you are opinionated.

As for those paying for their own rescue, I am conflicted. What about the older residents who may have not been able to leave on their own? I think that there would have to be an evaluation of each situation but that would cost money as well. So, I am not sure how I feel about this one... but you do make several valid points.
