Hey so I hope everyone is well! I am leaving Wednesday to begin the new tour. You know where to find the dates on my page and I really hope to see you all out at some shows!!!
As you know (or maybe dont, but now you do) I am going to release a Holiday album this season with like 3-4 original songs I wrote, and 3-4 classics. I am a huge fan of Christmas time and music, and I have always wanted to do this. I will probably begin recording it when this tour is over in May.
So, this leads to my next point of fun times that constantly run through my brain. I've been writing a lot lately, and started thinking the other day of how my musical tastes are so wide with the genres of stuff I dig. I then thought, hmmm why not ask you guys and gals opinion on something. Ya see, I enjoy making music of course, but I really enjoy making music that people like so I thought why dont you guys give me some feedback on what sort of album you would like to see me make the next time around. I was sort of thinking below as sort of your options, and you tell me what you think... see this is fun! haha...
1. Pop/R&B (basically I would say this one being the same sort of album as "Everything She Was" is ya know).
2. Urban/Track (this one being more like "track driven" songs ala Ne-Yo/Justin Timberlake etc).
3. Country/Soul (I would say like down south/gritty "Take It Or Leave It" style album that is more country roots based).
4. Throwback'ish (you know like James Morrison or say Duffy. With the kinda vintage feeling vibe.
I dont have any plans to start a new album and Im going to be working/promoting the one I have now for all of 09, but I would love to just have some of your feedback as to what you might enjoy. Love to you all, and again I hope to see you on this tour that starts this week!
Cheers, JHOGE

I would say go Urban or Country/Soul - I love the NeYo like songs and I loved hearing you with Broussard!

First of all, this is way overdue, but... YOU KICKED ASS ON THE EARLY SHOW! I am so proud of you, babe.

As far as the next album goes, I'm good with anything 'cause you can do no wrong. Well, musically at least. LOL But I'm pretty partial to Country/Soul since "Take It Or Leave It" is my favorite song. But I love the Throwback'ish idea as well 'cause I'm a big Duffy and Adele fan.

Anyway... see you soon!

Love ya, bitch.

Man, this is hard. I honestly cannot pick one. I mean Josh, you could pull off any of these styles. I mean hey, why can't you just make an album that's a mixture of all four? But shoot, if I had to pick one, I would pick "Urban/Track." And, the only reason I picked that one is because growing up, that's what I listened to. But like I said, you could def do some of each on an album. But anywayz, see you in a few days buddy. And get ready, 'cause the Puerto Ricans are taking over the Tin Angel. Oh smack.
LOL!! HaHa!! :0)

You could do any of the above & I will buy & listen to it! You are amazing....i'm so addicted to 'Everything She Was'. I like when you mix it up...put a little of everything in there.
It's allllllll good!

Keep it up & I will see you April 25th in Portland, OR...can't wait!

You Rock!

I love all of those kinds of music so do a little of everything. I love it when an artist is versatile. The best albums are when you're not listening to the same song 10 times. I think you would sound fantastic with any of those choices. My vote is something of everything.
Variety is the spice of life!

I <3 you!

P.S.
Can't wait to see you next month in Portland, OR! :)

What about a combination of 2 and 4, with a splash of 1? A bit throwback'ish with an urban/soul feel? Get the vintage groove with a little Johnny Gill finesse.

Anyway you slice it though, I'm sure you'll tear up the tracks. It's a joy listening to your music and a kick to see you in concert.

Have fun on the tour!

OK Josh... I'm voting for down south/gritty as my first choice 'cuz you do it soooo well! ... and "Throwback'ish" ala JHoge sounds intriguing also. (But you know I'll buy a ton of anything you record 'cuz you're just amazing..... I'm still paying off my credit card bills from ESW!

Oh, and I'm thinking that the name of this album should be:

"Cheers, JHoge" (original, huh?)

Also looking forward to the Christmas CD!

Love ya! Can't wait for the upcoming shows!

Okay, I'm new to your music...just found ya a week or so ago but after listening through most of your songs I have to say Take it or Leave it is one of my favorites. I think its a good rockish country and you sound great on it! So I'd go with the country/soul option.

Hoping to catch you on your March 31st stop at the Southgate house.

...btw, its listed wrong your page.
Southgate house is in Newport, Kentucky not Covington :)

I have to say that Everything She Was is one of my favorite albums! Such good music man!! Try not to change it up too much and stay away from the Ne-yo/Timberlake style. Also, where can we get a copy of the Hall and Oates cover? Sounds great! Maybe you should do like Broussard and throw an album full of soulful covers in between.

I love the dirty gritty sound, but it's not as easy to sell. Look at Marc Broussard...dude's got mad skills but it's not what the kids wanna hear right now! (unless those kids are us of course). Track driven music gets lodged in your brain and drives ppl to buy the album out of neccessity but is easily forgotten. Pop will come and go but my vote is for Throwback.
Smooth, sexy, gritty and poppy all together LOL (can you tell I'm indecisive?) Do what makes your fine ass happy and get to it soon!

Well... first and foremost I firmly believe you should cover "Christmas time is Here" from the Charlie Brown movie for your holiday album...I'm just saying... Secondly, you make my heart swoon when you sing do the R&B/Pop songs. Slow ones please and thank you. I'm also a huge fan of "throwback'ish". "Keeps Getting Better" gave me a classic, smooth-vibe, like buttah. Whatever it is you do just make it you.

I never thought of James Morrison as a throw-back...but I love his sound. I actually liked his first cd better then his last one, but "Precious Love" on this last cd is great. Adele is beyond amazing.

I haven't gotten your latest cd yet (I'll be picking that up in Evanston) but my favorite cuts on Bedroom Sessions are "Leave" and "Goodbye Again". Now that I think about it, they do have kind of a James Morrison feel to them.
(Any chance they might make the Evanston set list? hint hint)

So I guess my preference is #4, but you do have the talent to do it all. Make yourself happy.

I'm gonna go Country/Soul is really suits your intense voice well. Songs like Take it or Leave It, and Space are so uniquely you! I think your voice is too strong for light pop songs. I just get this dirty country soul vibe from you.

I think you should do like you always do and create a melting pot of all the above options include tracks that showcase all of your many talents !:) (Prolly not the answer you were looking for). But when all else fails I love the R&B vibe that you put on your songs.. so I will go with that (if I have to chose)

country/soul all the way. throw in a little acoustic, with your voice all raspy the way it gets during a show, and it'll be played non-stop 24/7. that's what i missed on "everything she was" compared to the bedroom sessions volume 1, the raspy raw edge to your voice.
i like it real and raw, none of this polished up stuff
