Wyclef Jean and his Yele Haiti Foundation have joined forces with World Food Programme (WFP) and Pan American Development Foundaion (PADF) to announce the launch of "Together For Haiti" (Kombit Pou Ayiti), a partnership committed to providing food, creating jobs and supporting local agriculture as part of a coordinated emergency response to the current food crisis.

So far they have raised $3 million as a combination of cash and in-kind donations to cover the first six months of operation. The goal is to raise 10 million by the end of the year and 48 million over two years.

The press conference, held 5/20/08 at the Gansevoort Hotel in the meat packing dristict of NYC, (symbolic in itself), boasted an impressive gathering of Haitian dignitaries, economist Jeffrey Sachs, supermodel Petra Nemcova, who has visited Haiti on behalf of Yele Haiti before, and singer/songwriter Paul Simon. Simon currently has a duet, "Fast Car", with Jean from the Haitian superstar's latest album, "Carnival II: Memoirs of an Immigrant".

There was a hush in the room when Jean introduced Simon as his idol and mentor. Simon told the press, who gathered around him in admiration and curiosity, that he will do his part to help the cause.

Donations came in from Russell Simmons and Voila, the mobile company that serves Haiti.

For more information or to make a donation, please visit Yele Haiti and Together For Haiti.

Will you do something about the Genocide in Darfur?

Help Us Raise Funds For SaveDarfur.org By Participating In The Save Darfur Now Hip Hop Compilation

We are working on a compilation cd to raise money for www.savedarfur.org.

We got a few tracks already and we have a couple labels on board as well as reaching over 1,000 with information about the Darfur Crisis through the myspace, facebook and savedarfur groups.

We have commitments and tracks from Minister RMB, Sivion (of DeepSpace 5), Ruslan (of theBREAX), David 2.0 (of Nureau Ink), CY, Mr Ren, Propaganda (of Tunnel Rats), Poems (of LA Symphony), Sojourn (of Future Shock), AppleJaxx (of Nureau Ink), Secta7, Von Won, Just para-DOX, Dialect (of Raiderz Of The Lost), 2 Five (the Hood Rev), L.O.C., Conflict, Tre-9 (0f Much Luvv Records), ICECE, C-Micah, Tha Heata, Mizz Reality, Sean P (of Bone Circus), Sacred Apparel Clothing, CitySlickaz Entertainment, Name Brand, Afaar, NomiS, Regg Henry, John Orozco, Dizzy Kidd, DOX Boogie, Dj Clutch & others. Add your name to the list.

Listen to some of the submitted tracks here: http://www.myspace.com/hiphopsavedarfurnowcompilation

Add your name to the list.

You can record an original track about the genocide in Africa, in Darfur or people surviving tragedy. Let me know if you need a beat or got your own.

If you do not have any of your own original beats to record to you can download some beats submitted for this project from this link (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=45E53G5B or some unused beats at www.soundclick.com/justparadox) and let me know if you feel like writting something to one of those beats.

You can also submit a track from any project you already got out. If you want to submit something about Africa, Darfur, genocide, war, making it through hard times, no more blood for oil, middle east peace (for both sides), the hood (american inner city violence), ... or anything you think would be relevant. Or submit a song with original content. If you a producer we also need tracks.

Here are some other countries in Africa that have been affected by Genocide and War in recent years: Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Uganda, Sudan (Darfur & Southern Region), Somalia & Congo.

Over a thousand people have signed and committed to be a part of the movement, whether to educate others, raise funds and awareness or to get involved personally themselves.

Here is the latest info / update I put out that breaks down the three part initiative.

Join the Holy Hip Hop Responds to the Need in Darfur Movement Now

Here’s how you can get involved!!

Get Involved - Here is More info about Hip Hop Responds To The Need In Darfur Movement

We are seeking Hip Hop, Conscious Rappers, Holy Hip Hop artists, Christian Rappers and other artists coming together to support the social cause and seek social justice to those affected by the Darfur conflict. Putting our feat into action and money where our mouths are to reach those hurt and ravaged by great tragedy.

James 2:14-26 says, "14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe--and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. 25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? 26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also."

As many as 400,000 people have been killed in Darfur. Another 2.5 million have been driven from their homes and into danger. The threat of rape, torture, murder and starvation pursue the women, men and children of Darfur wherever they flee.

This is most definitely a cause worth fighting for.

Isaiah1:15 When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are full of blood; 16 wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight! Stop doing wrong, 17 learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.

James 1:27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Please prayerful consider becoming involved. Pray for the people of Darfur or if you can give or call upon your senators and leaders to Divest In Darfur.

It’s something that anyone who really cares about social justice the loss of life should get involved with. Its something I believe in. We should, "Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow, to look after orphans and widows in their distress." 400,000 people have been killed in Darfur and another 2.5 million displaced that is a human tragedy.

Hip Hop and other artists lets rise up to the times and do something for those who need our help. Lets show love and help those who are in need. Lets not just debate bible issues and enjoy our comfortable life. Lets help and fight for the cause of the oppressed and hurting.

Respond to the need in Darfur.

Hey Wyclef,

I hope you'll look into industrial hemp. Haiti has a massive soil erosion and tree problem, both of which could be eliminated with hemp - not to mention the jobs. AND hemp creates 20 times more biofuel per acre than corn so they'd be FRKN' RICH.

I would like to inform you that a significant percentage of Haitian population, living in Haiti or abroad, DO NOT practice Voodoo. As a matter of fact Voodoo did not originate from Haiti. And also, why prevent others to help disadvantaged Haitians? I respectfully disagree with the Voodoo practioners, but it is not a reason not to help them.

It is good to know that compassion and basic human decency is still alive. Often most folks forget about others less fortunate or blame the victims of poverty for their fates. Just imagine how much better the world would be if everyone were more compassionate.

Well you would think of the things that mankind has suffered
And the triumphs
Over the same things that we have suffered
No one on this planet would dream of harming another
But it’s still not the case
We could return to Turkey in the early 1900’s
Or fast forward to today
And turn on the Christian station
To see what is happening in this year of new beginning
Where in counties that everyone has heard of
Children are starving and in others being exploited
Back home in the states
Females take trips to clinic and have abortion
Just as quick as they change into a new pair of stilettos
Were as in other parts of the world
Mothers are screaming for Jesus
To protect their unborn children
Wanting the best for them
So that they may become educated
And sleep on full bellies
But because of a lack of respect
For the blood that flows through every vain
People go insane because of money
Then land
That can’t tell the one who created it
I love Dad
Or even come to His side when He is feeling down
And I get mad, because I can only write a poem
So I leave it in Gods hands
And thank Him for the ones who’s in places
To make a difference to diffuse some tension
That gives these little ones a chance
_God bless you and everyone that is apart of the relief effort in Jesus name_
