Happy independence month, amigos!
This blog is perhaps more chock-full of news than any other blog we've ever written. Yep, it's a good one, if you're as excited about it as we are, feel free to pass it along. Let's get right to it...
1. Switchfoot gains independence: As many of you have already heard through our blog, this is an exciting month for the foot family. After several years of trying to make things work over at Columbia we have officially severed our ties with sony to pursue making music independently (you can read more about it in our last blog).
We are thankful for the incredible success that our partnership has produced over the years, yet within this ever changing business there can arise differences in vision and goals. These differences have now come to a point where we feel like parting ways would be best for us, and best for sony.
As a hands-on band, we feel so grateful for our newfound freedom. We are continually dreaming up ways to bridge the gap between the audience and the stage; this feels like an incredible step in that direction. A huge thank you to bob, amy, nicole and tim over at columbia who were there from the beginning. We would also like to thank our musical family here in the states and abroad for sticking with us through these columbia years. We couldn't have done it without you!
We'll have more information for you as things shape up. In the meantime, here are several projects already in the works for the next year:
- four jon foreman solo ep's
(tentatively titled fall, winter, spring, and summer)
- the real sean jon(a collaboration between jon foreman and sean watkins of nickel creek fame)
- a new switchfoot record in '08
(the first 13 tracks were cut earlier this month!)
2. New merch, new sale items in online store: We have a bunch of new shirts in our online store, and we've also created a new SALE section, with shirts as cheap as $10. yeah, pretty sweet. Check 'em out here.
3. New Podcast: yup. oh yeah, we think it rules. subscribe and download free from iTunes here, or stream it for free from our site here.
4. Appetite for Construction Tour: Switchfoot & Relient K Fall Tour / Australia, New Zealand, Philippines / Iraq, Kuwait:
We're happy to announce our fall tour plans with our good friends from Ohio's finest, Relient K. For us this tour carries more meaning than simply a reunion of friends. We're thrilled to be partnering with Habitat For Humanity, and both bands are donating $1 from every ticket sold to this amazing organization committed to building homes for those in need here in the US and abroad. It is also chance for us all to get plugged in to being a part of the solution in our own communities. For more info, please visit Habitat.org
