Current mood:  productive
On this day, over two hundred years ago, we decided we did not want
a dictator and established a government for, of and by the people.

The best way I can think of to honor that choice and envigorate it's meaning is
to spend time, like the time we spend on memorial day honoring those who gave their
lives to preserve our way of life, reaquainting ourselves with what this country is
all about. So...

you can Read your Constitution here

and The Bill of (your) Rights here

If you need some motivation to be a real citizen and put some teeth
to the idea of being the greatest country in the world...

Watch this...

This country still matters.

And this country is simply an idea.

An Idea held deeply and boldy in the hearts and minds of individuals.

I have often found it ironic that the day we call "Independence day" is really about us as a collective.

Our country exists only because we wish it so and, more importantly, make it so.

Happy 4th of July

in the immortal words of Capt. Picard..."make it so"

Here, here!
I coud not agree with you, or Keith Olbermann more!
Thank yo so much for posting these things.
It gives me faith to know that I am not the only person who gets livid over the blatant misuse of power this administration constantly displays.
Thank you, Hal.
Thank you.

What a passionate reminder of what Independence Day really stands for... Thank you once again for the wake up call. So, we all need to remember to research and then vote for the most qualified candidate in 2008. They after all will be representing us as a nation for the next four years.

So, using another immortal wors of Capt. Picard..."Engage"

Happy Independence Day America!

I rarely say it because I can't stand babies (or I guess I should say mudslingers) on either side of the political fence, but this commentary from Olbermann was perhaps his best to date.

I am not a US Citizen but spend much time there and stay very aware of events. All I can say is, my hat is off to you Hal! In a BIG way!!! Thanks for brushing the dust off of the "crown of brotherhood" placed upon the good of the United States.

Amen to this whole blog. Boo to all the idiots who voted for Bush TWICE. They let the Republican Party become run by idiots instead of qualified conservatives with whom I disagreed on many points, but respected for their intellect and ability to run the country. Voting for Bush once was stupid. Voting for Bush twice has proven unpatriotic. But we'll get our country back with qualified leaders who can not only clean up the mess Bush left behind, but can improve our country long term.

Happy 4th, Hal!:)

I had to stop watching...Im am outraged and disgusted with our President. Total disregard for the law, the constitution and the people he is supposed to serve.

Thanks for sharing this with us, complacency will kill us all.

I wonder how he sleeps at night!!

Happy 4th of July and lets all remember what that means.

Thank you again Hal for reminding me why i didn't vote for this dummy twice. I never understood how he got re-elected, and i probably never will. The fact that he did that should get him impeached. Hopefully people will open their eyes about the moronic things Bush has done and realize they made a big mistake voting for him. Hal Sparks for President 2008!!

Good man! I was just about to come on and ask for the Hal Favor thought for the day! LOL

I have to say it was the best Republican speak I've every heard, kicking Bush boy to the curb! :-) You now have Republican White men saying impeach him, what more do we need? And yet we have a 17year old black boy getting busy with a girl who was what 16? Both consenting....who is in jail for 10years for a blow job! Mmm, reminds me of something? If I didn't love my county, I would move to China...couldn't be worse which the higher ups telling us how to live!!! Even Paris got a few days! Come on!!!!

What do we have now, wire tabs, hiding under the constitution, perjury (on you name it), war, content, legal files, corruption, fingering someone in the CIA that was serving their country, saving another rich white man's arse!

We need to think about a march!!! blues...

I am not the kind girl who is into guys. But if I were the kinda girl who was into guys I would be into Oberman. And Anderson Cooper. Thanks for posting this. His atomic tounge of truth is SO REFRESHING to hear especially in a time when the "news" is about as real silicone implants.

Thanks for all the insight. I'll watch the vid later. Hope you don't mind, but I re-posted this in my journal. Did you have a good 4th of July?

If you ran 4 prez in '08 against Gale (QAF's Kinney), I wouldn't know who to vote for! LOL.

Indeed. And I watched Keith the other day (as I do many days) when he gave that commentary. And then of course, my brother says, "I seriously doubt they will resign because of that". Duh.

The blood of our American Soldiers that died in combat is on Bush's hands.
I say Impeach the bast*rd!! Send his sorry butt over there to fight this "war" that he wanted so bad! Bring the troops home!!

you know i have been trying to say all of that for the past 4 years. and yet no one seemed to listen to me. its amazing how people look down on you just because you are young. but then again i guess when you are 14 and you are trying to state your own opinions about the president that will happen. hopefully in the next election when i am almost 19 people will listen to me.
