Check this out.. this is from someone Bush hired!..

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The first U.S. surgeon general appointed by President George W. Bush accused the administration on Tuesday of political interference and muzzling him on key issues like embryonic stem cell research.

"Anything that doesn't fit into the political appointees' ideological, theological or political agenda is ignored, marginalized or simply buried," Dr. Richard Carmona, who served as the nation's top doctor from 2002 until 2006, told a House of Representatives committee.

Even the people Bush picks to carry out his psychotic agenda think he's full of shit.

And we wonder why the healthcare system in this country is cruel to the poorest and weakest? He WANTS it that way. We always hear that Bush and the republicans can run this country better because they would run it like a business. Well there's a problem with that Philosophy..

You can't fire the poor.

This country isn't a business no matter how much the free-market fuhrers would love it to be. It's a collection of people who all agree that we should all get basic rights and protections. These guys wish we had never fought the revolutionary war. They picture themselves as members of a victorian aristocracy where peasants are a either slaves or a minor inconvenience.

We pay for cops and firemen.

Why not doctors?

We have public schools..has that ended private education?

So shouldn't we be able to have national healthcare supplemented by private industry?

GO see SICKO! If you've already seen it..go again and take a friend.

CNN did a hit piece on Michael Moore right before bringing him on...this was his response. I think he kicks ass.

I'm a fan of Michael Moore. And don't whine that you think he's self serving... you heard that somewhere and you can't see past it.

Saying Michael Moore is a loud mouth is like saying Bono is a loud mouth.

Somebody needs to say these things!

We need loud mouths who don't shut up just because fear mongers shout them down.

It's amazing that people love to bash liberals for their supposed weakness and then get indignent when we don't roll over and take it in the keister just because they think we should.

So I'm weak if I let you walk all over me? and if I don't I'm a self serving Loud mouth?

I'll take number two please..with a side of organic hemp granola.

Update - TO any of you that think Michael or anyone working on his films play fast and loose with the facts while the news gets it straight...here's the follow up Michael was talking about... Fact Check

Damn, man. How did my thoughts land on your blog?? :)

I've always said the same thing - societies need gadflies, provocateurs and all-around shit-stirrers. You don't necessarily have to agree with everything they say or do, line for line, but they are worth listening to. They exist to make us re-see and re-think everything we would take for granted.

That he's getting people to even start *talking* about this is a tremendous leap forward.

Amen, bruthuh! :)

I couldn't have said any of that better myself, so I won't.:) However, I do think Bono is self-serving and conceited, but I get your main point and agree with that. My issue with Bono is that I think he wants a pat on the back for his philanthropy.

Michael Moore, however, is not self-serving and genuinely cares about America and Americans. He's a genius and people should educate themselves about health care simply because it's important and affects ALL of us. It doesn't matter where one is on the political spectrum; we should all educate ourselves about everything going on in our country.

Hi, Self-Serving Loud Mouth. We have the same name! What are the chances? LOL

I saw "Sicko", when it first came out. It truely is an amazing but disturbing video. Many people find them selves in enourmous debt because of doctors bills that A. They thought insurence would cover B. The people were under insured C. They have no insurence. Its amazying how many people think insurence is there for them when they are going to need it. What people often forget is that Insurence is a business and their goal is to pay out as little as possiable.

I think it is also interestin how people believe what they read and that the news is not biased. When you own the media, you can mold stories into what you want. you can choose the information that can be released. I personally like to read the same stories from several different media sources. It is amayzing how the stories change based on if it is a concervative paper (i.e. Wall Street Journal), a liberal paper (i.e. SJ Mercury news) or if it is foreign news. All the factors that go into the points of view of the media such as (who own's the media outlet, who are its major advertisers and what group are the primary readers / watchers / listeners).

I saw Sicko on Sunday and was enraged that we can even call ourselves a civilized country when we cannot even provide universal health care to our citizens. The fact that people die simply so an insurance company can keep their profits up and pay their CEO millions and millions of dollars every year is ludicrous. Socialized medicine apparently works and if we didn't have an "every man for himself" attitude coupled with the greedy desire to die with the most money we, too, would probably adopt that plan. All I can say is I am not proud to be an American. And people only hate Michael Moore because he's willing to point out the truth and the truth isn't pretty.

HELL YEAH!!!! I LOVE what you said about Michael Moore--I've said the same thing before, myself! I may actually repost it on my page....with due credit being given, of course.

Also, I saw Sicko last night....I think it was the best movie, ever. I may move to France now.

I saw this clip yesterday and immediately thought of you. Good for him for calling them on their BS.

I, too, have found that far too many people think that we should be passive just because we're liberal or progressive.

Funny, but that was left out of my orientation package. In fact, I think I may have highlighted in obnoxious neon pink where it said: "constitutional right of freedom of speech".

The problem is, too many people only support freedom of speech when it happens to be saying something they agree with. Personally I've always thought that if you can't hear an opposing point of view, then it's your own viewpoint that's questionable. How strong is your conviction when you're doing nothing more than covering your ears and singing "lalalalala" to avoid hearing anything that doesn't fit in some teeny little box in your brain?

People take issue with Michael Moore and his tactics. Fair enough. But to ignore the message because they simply don't like the messenger is stupid. And lazy. And explains why fast talkers like Rove/Cheney/Bush et al could manipulate an entire country to voting for their useless asses not once but twice. We can't be bothered with things like fact and logic. So let's base all our opinions on personality and image.

Yes, it's working REALLY well for us so far.

And unfortunately both sides are guilty of this, which is why I'm wary our party can pull their head out of their idealistic asses long enough to pick a candidate who can actually win, rather than someone who might happen to be married to the person we'd really like to see win.

So... yeah. I'm definitely a member of the Loud Mouth group.

The more they try to shut me down, the louder I intend to get.

I couldn't have said it better myself! Well Done! Liberals aren't cowards, we're quite the opposite, conservatives are the cowards because they are stuck in the old school way of thinking, they have yet to evolve and acknowledge that there are people other than them in this world and we're struggling to survive so they can have their luxuries.

I saw this the night it came out, and I must say, it's undoubtedly one of my favorites. In attempt to start conversation with people about it I end up getting a lot of "He's obnoxiously biased" or the occasional "He doesn't know what the f*ck he's talking about". It's frustrating because despite the fact that Moore is laying out on the table what's really going on, people don't believe it - or maybe they just don't want to believe it? People need to start understanding that even if they don't like Moore that he's still revealing what needs to be revealed about our country...and most importantly he's revealing the fact that our supposed leader - whom we've placed trust in for nearly 7 years now - has not only let us down on more than one occasion but continues to lie to cover up his inability to lead us in the right direction. Ultimately, it's his fault we're in this mess, so why do people still feel the need to protect him from the truth that Micheal speaks? I'm sure the answer will never be found, but it's one I'll continue to seek an answer for.

Oh, and CNN ran a story on Bush making an appearance in Cleveland yesterday.... funny part about it is that he spoke mostly of health care issues ... hmmm..what an odd coincidence...

Doesn't he just look too damn innocent to do any of those terrible things he's done to all of the US's citizens? Psh...

America deserves better!

I just got home from seeing 'Sicko'. The masses were lining up for Harry Potter while I was stretched out in a row almost all to myself. I was floored by the film and am SO glad that someone actually has a pair and will say the shit people are too afraid to bring up. This movie brought me to tears and had me nodding my head in total agreement and shaking my fists in anger all at once.

Agreed. If you haven't seen 'Sicko' do yourself a favour and see it. If you have bring two friends.

That said, I'm moving to France.

Hi Hal:

I am a Canadian and so enjoy the universal health care system that is so decried in America by the right and some of the corporations. Here in Ontario people over 65 even receive free prescription medications. The Provincial government( like your state government) gives them a card and they give it to the Pharmacy and pay $2 co pay for each prescription. Often the Pharmacies waive the$2 fee for our seniors. Its scandalous!

As I understand it, the principle of insurance is to pool risk so as to minimize the cost of a problem to any individual insured, the bigger the pool, the more widely spread the risk, the better. That is why governments should be the insuring body- we are all participants in spreading the risk and we all have a say through political discourse in the resource allocation decisions which have to be made.

As Michael Moore points out the current American system is badly skewed and is not working well. I am not all that hopeful that things will change because the current system so obviously does not take care of millions of Americans, but I think real change is coming as Corporate America realizes that the current system puts them at a competitive economic disadvantage when dealing with businesses in the rest of the world. You know the saying-Money talks, bullshit walks!

All the best,
Tom

i know exactly how you feel i don't know how many times people have called me a stupid liberal. I just want to tell those people to shut up, and remind them how they go into submission every time there supposed "leader" tells them to. you know my grandfather voted for Bill Clinton, and if he did something my grandpa didn't believe in he would state his opinion. If thats being weak I don't know what weak is. Thank you Hal for posting this its always nice to know that there are people like you in the world, people who actually have a brain.

Being one of the "poor" I would have to say I love that there are "loud mouths" out there that speak up for those of us that don't have a voice. No matter how much I or anyone else in the same financial distress begs and pleads for help, no one listens. But, you get someone like Michael Moore, or even YOU who will speak up and out for the little man, and there's no end to the fight we can win together. I have to wait to see SICKO until it comes out on DVD, but Faranheit 9/11 was amazing, so I'm sure it will be an eye opener. As a single mother who is constantly struggling to keep my CHILD insured let alone myself, I hope there's someone out there with enough power, to make a difference watching what Michael Moore has to say. Love you Hal, you're always amazing.

How true, that we need people who are loud and in your face to get the facts out there and make people aware of them. I commend Bono and Michael Moore, and all the other people of the world that do just that.

Change isn't something that you sit back and wait for it to happen.
Change is something you MAKE happen.

Kudos to the makers of the world!

Ahh...Sicko is on my long list of movies to see this summer....I have to say, while watching the Showtime new show, The Tudors, (I Tivo'd it and just got around to watching it) I saw many parallels to the way the Bush Administration has been operating.....hmmmm........and yes, they took some liberty with historical facts for the Tudors...just an FYI. Had to glamorize the whole thing...which if we are unlucky they will do that with the movie (in the far future) about W. and his presidency...but I guess we are all banking on history not being so kind to him, but being honest.

You are, as always, right and insightful! It's interesting what one sees in the media and so forth after taking certain classes whether they are in college of some sort or high school. I took one last fall (a required class) called Logical and Critical Thinking and learned not only about arguments but the media. The media plays such a HUGE role in how people live their lives today and the media uses that to their advantage. For example, during the last presidential election the media aimed at people in their late teens to twenties got younger people to vote by bringing in celebrities and such. I see nothing wrong with that. I also love the daily show because Stewart tells it like it is. I prefer it to the "real" news because I know it's truthful. I haven't watched any of Michael Moore's documentaries previously but now I really want to! Thanks, Hal. As always, you rock my socks ;) As for 1 or 2? I would also go with 2, but I don't know how hemp granola would taste...hmm...ewww maybe? :) hehe

I know this is an older blog post, but I'm from Australia and omg... our health system is so much fairer and better. The Government actually looks after it's citizens, not punishing them for being poor or anything but rich. It's taken me a year and a bit to fully realize how bad private health insurance is in the USA. And to think this country has god knows what times the amount of Gross Domestic Product that Australia has and millions more people who should have and be entitled to a basic human right, the right to be looked after and not have to worry about money to have a finger put back on.
